So, I started playing Star Ocean: The Last Hope yesterday. So far, I think it's a pretty decent JRPG. The art style is good, especially for something released in 2009. The combat is not bad, although I prefer the Tales combat mechanics more. The voice acting, in my opinion, isn't really as bad as people make it out to be. Also, the characters are okay to me and haven't annoyed me so far. In short, I kind of like it. It's not perfect, but it's alright.
I've managed to beat Barachiel and Lymle is joining my crew on the ship.
Grats on getting past the most boring planet, the next area can not be returned to so make sure to get everything.
I didn"t find the planet to be that bad. I found the main quest to be interesting and I thought the boss was fairly challenging.
So, yesterday I managed to best Sahariel in The Last Hope. He was the first boss that I actually struggled with. I died three times before I beat him. I feel like I got really lucky on my fourth try.
Some general advice: IIRC, putting points into a skill that boosts Edge's critical hit damage (or was it crit chance?) makes him pretty beastly.
A later character gets the same skill.
I wish I could eradicate every last one of those Salamanders from Star Ocean the Second Story. They single-handedly ended my only Cave of Trials run with their stone/poison/paralyze breath XD; It was the definition of overkill.

Those things sucked. I had to pay special attention to every battle with them.
So, I'm currently on Earth and I've managed to beat the boss. Meracle has joined my team and I'm nearing the end of the mission. I'm liking the story so far.

The worst part was that attack hit multiple times so on the off-chance it didn't get you the first time it'd be sure to the second, third, or tenth time.
Meracle is the other character who an boost her critical hits.
So, I managed to beat the boss in Miga Insect Warrens. I had some trouble with the boss at first but I was able to beat it.
So, I'm currently on Nox Obscurus. It seems I'm approaching the end of the game. This has been an interesting experience and I can't wait to finish it.

PS4!3 is coming to the west.
I've tried a few times to get into Til the End of Time after wanting it for years, and I just can't.
It hasn't aged well
and looking back at with a critical eye... makes you wonder how its the BIG hit of the Star ocean franchise
Probably because Albel is so smexy.
Nonsense Everyone wanted NEL
Nel was the best character in that game.
Not saying much but what can you do.
I imagine it coasted on the same wave that helped Symphonia do well. I have no doubt Symphonia is a way better game but both games clearly got a lot of affection for being "different." I don't think average RPG fans knew JRP Gs could be anything other than Final Fantasy-type combat. So SO 3 was mindblowing.
It might have also been all the people saying 2 was a classic combined with how hard it was to find at that point. If you can't find the previous games, might as well go for the new ones.
In addition, I know at least one person who got it because it was made by Tri-Ace, the people who created the Tales series in the first place.
So, I finished Star Ocean:The Last Hope yesterday. It was a pretty good game. The plot was good and the characters were decent. The combat was pretty good in my opinion. It's not a perfect JRPG but it was worth my time and money.
SO4 is coming to Steam and getting a 4K Remaster on November 20th
Got that game yesterday. Played it for a few hours, and I like it so far. Graphics are nice but the ground textures look horrible.
