I wish I could eradicate every last one of those Salamanders from Star Ocean the Second Story. They single-handedly ended my only Cave of Trials run with their stone/poison/paralyze breath XD; It was the definition of overkill.

The Protomen enhanced my life.![]()
The worst part was that attack hit multiple times so on the off-chance it didn't get you the first time it'd be sure to the second, third, or tenth time.
YAY!
Nel was the best character in that game.
Not saying much but what can you do.
I imagine it coasted on the same wave that helped Symphonia do well. I have no doubt Symphonia is a way better game but both games clearly got a lot of affection for being "different." I don't think average RPG fans knew JRP Gs could be anything other than Final Fantasy-type combat. So SO 3 was mindblowing.
It might have also been all the people saying 2 was a classic combined with how hard it was to find at that point. If you can't find the previous games, might as well go for the new ones.
In addition, I know at least one person who got it because it was made by Tri-Ace, the people who created the Tales series in the first place.

So, I started playing Star Ocean: The Last Hope yesterday. So far, I think it's a pretty decent JRPG. The art style is good, especially for something released in 2009. The combat is not bad, although I prefer the Tales combat mechanics more. The voice acting, in my opinion, isn't really as bad as people make it out to be. Also, the characters are okay to me and haven't annoyed me so far. In short, I kind of like it. It's not perfect, but it's alright.
