"Feel free to take whatever you want as soon as the killing stops. As for our escape plan, anyone who doesn't die can regroup in this forest. There isn't really a specific strategy that will work in a place this urban. As long as nobody splits too far off from the main group, we probably won't end up getting overwhelmed in the first place." The leader said.

She smiled like a stray cat that had just come across a creamery. This meant all the good loot would go to the quick ones, and she was the quickest among this group of murderous oafs. Well she'd have to worry about the others in the band trying to kill her for her share, but that was a problem she'd deal with if it happened. She drew the long iron dagger hidden underneath the rags she called clothes, and let her tongue slide down the length of the cold hard blade, it tasted like blood and gold, it tasted good.

"Wanderer!" Sarath turned to the passing Monk, "Come, it does an old soul pleasure to see one who possess more devotion than what it takes to slumber. The Goddess sundered and smote, you wander still. Tell me, if you do not sleep as well, what is it that you seek?"

A few of the bandits gave a melodramatic "Yeah!" in response to Blue Moon's question.

A couple of archers who had bee sent into the town the night before to pose as traveling merchants left the town inn and went to their cart, which had been stationed along with their horse at the town's stables for a nominal fee. They and two others had been carefully disguised as merchants and sent into the town to let the rest of their company in. Getting in wasn't difficult, as merchants were common here and an invasion like this hadn't been attempted in centuries, so the guards were not remotely suspicious. They alerted the two theives who had been hiding among the wares they were pretending to sell since the day before as they pretended to unpack their things. The casually approached the guards sationed at the front gates and fired their bows, and the theives jumped out and stabbed them before they could react. They opened the front gates and did the same thing to the guards stationed outside of them.

The commander watched closely as the entry was secured. "It looks as though that is our cue. Let's try to get into the town before too many people notice the commotion."

Jyrus, still on his back, flicked his eyes to the young albino, who appeared to have been scouting for them, and he snorted. " I thought we were waiting on you." He commented disdainfully, appraising the Beorc.

She looked starved, which he understood and slightly respected. Not like most of the natives of this land, lazy cattle who claimed they were men. She had a wild, untamed look about her, like an animal. Like Jyrus himself, he supposed.

Jyrus almost smiled. He liked her already. And there weren't many people in this band that he liked.

He stretched and got to his feet, giving an exasperated sigh. " We've been ready for the past hour." He said with a pointed look at Blue Moon. Turning towards the town, he clenched his clenched his fingers, testing his talons against his skin. They would do.

He watched, impatiently as his fellow mercenaries secured the gates.

" Took them long enough." He growled, before breaking into a wolfish grin. He glanced over his shoulder at the others. " Let's go hunting." He snarled, eyes alight with eagerness.

Okay, Random can have control of my character. I am out of here since dice are involved. There is no limit to my hatred for dice. I hate dice so much, if I could go back in time and figure out who made those things first, I'd kill the person.

"Well then let's not waste any more time." She gave the one known as Jyrus a vicious smile as much a warning not to get too cheeky as it was a sign of approval of the warrior's apparent eagerness. As the bandits filed down from the mountains she stayed deep within the middle of their ranks. This way she'd let the big ones take the brunt of whatever resistance the small town could muster, and still be close enough to the action to take advantage of any new oppurtunities that might pop up during the raid.

"Try and keep up Jyrus it'd be a shame if someone got to all that killing and treasure before you."

The bandits began running until they were in plain view of the town. A few people started running through the streets alerting others, and the guards present ran back to the baracks to formulate some kind of defensive measure. Cowardly as they felt, they knew it would at least take the full force of the town's guard to fight off an invasion force like this. The priest Sarath was talking to began another sentence, but fled back into the church as soon as he realized what was going on. Some of the merchants who had been trying to sell their wares tried to take what they could and flee to the back gates, while others tried to hide in their shops as the bandits came near. The townspeople were in a general state of panic and disarray. The guards returned with a modest force made up of those who hadn't already tried to flee with their families to do what they could to keep the bandits from getting any further. Things were already beginning to look bad.

Siegren wasn't really sure what his plan was, or how this was going to work out, all he knew was that he intended to switch sides as soon as he could safely do so.

[[ For all those concerned, every NPC mercenary and guard has a 5 in every stat, save for HP which shall be 10. In other words, it's mooks versus redshirts aside from the main characters. The only exception is the mercenary commander, who will be more powerful and who is currently out of proximity and can't attacked. As for numbers, there are about 10 guards against a dozen bandits, not counting the leader and the players. ]]

Sarath smirked as he saw the priest flee, only to turn to see the bandits, the wolf pack that now entered the city.

His smile only grew wide at the sight.

He walked to the head of the guards, slowly, unflinchingly, as they assembled.

He shouted before the coming bandits,

"Lowly Parasites!" Came the cry harkened from the depths of his chest and soul, "Worms that have risen from the depths of the barren earth to feed on a straving dog! I shall impart the gift of wisdom upon you; The only blood you shall draw from stone is your own. If there is a man here who hungers for more than begger's scraps then stand before me."

He scanned the assembled crowd before him discerningly, before adding, "or else flee to the barren depths from which you rose."

Jyrus gave Blue Moon a smile in response. " It is indeed a shame when the impossible happens." He responded in a low tone of voice, before taking off towards the town.

Jyrus heard the mage's summons as they drew near, and gave the worn-down priest a glance. He looked rather ragged, much like the little Beorc had. Yet another one not content to live and grow fat. Interesting.

Curious, Jyrus emerged from the mass of bandits and stood before Sarath, his expression angry.

" Parasites?" He asked the man, teeth clenched. " I see no parasites but those who feed and spawn in this wretched excuse for a land!" He snarled at the man. " It is they who feed off the straving dog from the inside and grow lazy and rich and weak!" He spat in the general direction of the fleeing peasants. " I hunger for more than the scraps, but I would much rather feast on scraps and stay lean then feast upon the fruits of this land and grow fat and content!"

He gave the guards a glare, before turning back to Sarath and crossing his arms.

"The men of this land sleep," Sarath's smile grew ever hungrier, "You nibble at their toes and pray to forgotten Gods that they shall not wake. Here men are complacent even in leanness and for that I spit on them and I live not at their behest. Wolf, can you do no better than to track this herd of lemmings forward to the edge of oblivion?"

Jyrus gave the mage a guarded look. He had apparently underestimated the man. He was unlike the rest, a loner, much like Jyrus himself.

That was two people in one day he liked. Not since his exile had such an event occurred.

" I do not follow the herd unto oblivion," He responded, interested in the man. " I prey off it out of necessity. Whatever doom they bring upon themselves, whether through their complacency or their weakness, I will not mourn for them, nor follow them."

He tilted his head and cocked an ear at Sarath. " Were it my choice, I would leave the lemmings to whatever fate is to befall them." He said, quieter. " But alas, such is penance."

"Penitance," Sarath spat, "You hunt lemmings now on the edge of the world, what more revenge could they hope to inflict for the past? The wise learn from it and fools resent it. I can see it over you Wolf; it looms over you as the ashen cloth of a mourner and weighs on you as a corpse that seeks to claim you as a grave offering. But look to the sky, Wolf. There is no glory, no greatness in this path you trod, merely bitter survival until your penance drags you under. The past is a rigid in death but the future stands before you, young and limber. Tell me Wolf, the choice stands before you. What is your path?"

Blue moon spat, what was wrong with just surviving? What was wrong with just wanting to live and take what small enjoyment came with each breathing moment?

"Jyrus! Don't get distracted we still got a job to do! Leave the crazy one with his words you can discuss philosophy when we're done fighting." She hefted a torch in her free hand and let it fly towards a nearby tavern. With luck the flames would catch on the beer soaked wood, and for now at least the chaos of extra flame and smoke would make her work all the much easier.

Midus realized what was going on and turned his attention to the torch that was currently spinning through the air towards the tavern.

He knew he couldn't make it in time to catch it, but could he destroy it? Would it just miss if he cast at it?

The safest course of action had to be...

"Somebody, catch that torch!" he yelled in the general direction of the tavern, pulling out his book of Light.

Now that's an impossible shot

And yet Jeanne already had her arrow notched on the string of her bow, her eyes set on the torch which spun on mid air as if time had slowed. She had to compensate for the time it would take her arrow to travel the air. There wasn't much wind today so that would not disturb the flight of her arrow. Then there was the fact that her target was a spinning thing torch.

Truly an impossible shot

And yet, Jeanne let her arrow fly. The young looking archer saw with her minds eye a few seconds into the future... she had to know where her target would be within the few seconds it would take her arrow to travel. And since it was spinning then she merely had to hit the center of rotation.

I hit that torch and I'll be bragging about it until the day I die

Johan grabbed his long axe and left the coziness of the tavern the moment he had heard a commotion outside. Cries of fear and rushing of footsteps outside could only mean one thing in a peaceful town like this.

Bandits

Stepping outside and seeing the guard gathering gave him some modicum of hope. At the very least they were fast and efficient about it. If that was the case then the village had some hope.

Not noticing the spinning torch heading towards the establishment he just emerged from, the Daein fighter rushed to the battlefront, were a ragged looking priests was exchanging words with what appeared to be one of the brigands.

Alia gave a quiet grin and slowly made her way along with the bandits. They stopped in the way of Sarath. She heard the talks between that man, and two of her "teammates". She didn't feel like adding anything. She never actually recall going on the same mission with the same people (if they were even still living), and all this philosophy or whatever they were sprouting just made things sound complex than they are. Seeing one of her comrades thankfully starting something by throwing a torch, she braced herself for a fight.

Roland was close to her, annoyed that he was in the middle of this. Normally he would just be in sight range, but he wound up going along with the other brigands. He was sure he was about get a nasty wound at best, and his chance of surviving is very low. However, he simply just stood there, not panicking or anything he thought he would be doing in this situation. "One of these days, I'll be wielding a sword with you." he muttered, not attempting to actually have Alia hear it.

[[Again, copied from the discussion thread. Since it looks like Jyrus and Sarath are likely to start fighting soon, it might be kind of important to mention that fire magic does three times normal damage to beast laguz in the Fire Emblem 'verse. To make things more fair, I think I'll amend that rule so that it only applies while laguz are actually transformed in this RP, but otherwise the damage boost is probably the only thing that would give Sarath any kind of chance aginst beast-form Jyrus. I guess it would be fair to say that Jyurs also presently has a full beast gauge, so he won't have to wait to get into the battle. And now, to test this game's combat system.]]

As the two crowds approached each other, some of the guards and mercenaries began to skirmish. Two mercenaries attacked one guard in unison [[Their skill and speed are equal, so no dice roll is necessary. 5 strength + an MT of 4 = 9. 9 damage - 5 defense = 4. The guard is hit twice and left with 2 HP.]] The unfortunate guard was overwhelmed, but still fought back. [[One counterattack is made against each mercenary, leaving both with 6 HP.]]

It hit...

Jeanne was overjoyed. Her arrow flew true and hit the spinning torch in midair, knocking the projectile away from the roof of the nearby tavern. She stood still for a couple of seconds as she looked in marvel how the torch fell uselessly to the floor.

After that she felt a cry of pure elation build up and make it's way up until she let it out as she stared at the bandits "Aha! Did you see that shot?"

She then pointed out at the ragged looking woman that had thrown the torch before she spoke again "You band of bandits should just turn tail and run away right now! Cause you're up against Jeanne, Eyes of Gold! The greatest archer you have ever laid your sight upon!"

Johan for his part proved a good contrasts against the loud mouthed archer by getting into the fight quickly and efficiently. Seeing a soldier hard pressed by two of the mercenaries he promptly engaged one of the brigands with his axe.

'The goddess' gift to man is that he may choose his own destiny,' he thought to himself. He did it often, as it kept him grounded, centered on his own motivation so that he wasn't distracted by miracles.

Lysander followed the bandits in their charge into the village, keeping a look out as he approached. Once inside he was met with the predictable assortment of town guard. He did not predict what looked to be other mercenaries in the town itself.

This isn't good... he thought, his attention focused on two rather loud individuals, what looked to be a monk, and some girl with a bow. Both were in a stand off with the laguz and the thief. A missed torch and now everyone was beginning to fight. He stood at the edge of the fighting, waiting for his chance to strike.

Turning to face the nearest random bandit, Midus clears his throat.

The words pour from his mouth in the ancient tongue...

"Radiant ray, pierce mine enemy... Light!"

The "ancient tongue" is just a really fancy font in English; in Japanese it's also backwards. I am using double-quoted italics to represent it here. Single-quoted italics represent Midus' thoughts.
