A thread to discuss the Trails Series of video games (known in Japan as the Kiseki series). Adaptations of the games are also on-topic.
As of May 2024, there is no specific spoiler policy for this thread, which means the the default forum spoiler policy
applies.
In summary:

- Spoilers for episodic works (including any DLC) should remain tagged for one month or until the next instalment releases, whichever is shorter.
There hasn't been much good news in months for people who want more Legend Of Heroes VI in English. Xseed has apparently been translating the second installment for PSP, but no release date yet, and they apparently have not had much sales success. Meanwhile, there have been no official statements about releasing the Windows versions in English.
But thanks to this Andriasang article
, I learned that Aeria Games (best known for MMORPGs) plans to release the Trails in the Sky trilogy internationally on smartphones. Some online and social functions will be added to the basic gameplay. No clear indication of what international smartphone platforms just yet.

And here’s a little nugget of trivia. She appears in Azure (specifically the Kai version) and you can even talk to her!
The Kai version of the Zero and Azure are “enhanced” versions of both games with some voice acting. I quoted enhanced because the original PS 4 release was somewhat bad. Not unplayable but it’s just not very polished. Many of these issues were late fixed in the Switch and PC port.

She/Her | Currently cleaning: N/AWhat's kai?
Also cool! I'm very interested to see how the Crossbell games portray the setting. From what I understand, the city is in very contested territory, and the Empire wants to annex it but can't make a direct move.
The Cold Steel games so far are portraying the Empire in a neutral to positive light, with most of the military figures being allies to the class. Makes sense since of course Rean would be inclined to view his home country in a positive light. Even the royal family are portrayed as heroic.
Though there's a civil war, which is par for the course for Empires.
I feel like some people we meet as allies in the Cold Steel games would be enemies to other protagonists.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"So I'm doing the Instructor Sara swimming sidequest AND ONCE AGAIN PEOPLE SHOW UP AT THE WORST POSSIBLE TIME!
I swear, I'm cursed. They couldn't walk in during the cool scenes? Or when people are discussing politics so it looks more dignified?
PS 4 ports of the Crossbell Duology, they are the ones that we in the west got for PS 4. The PC and Switch versions are ports of the PS 4 but with some enhancements like adjusting UI scale, a few graphics options and the ability to show the name of the OST track that is playing when a new one starts.
All 3 versions change the Trade Conference a tiny tiny bit, adding Towa and three other NP Cs, who didn't exist yet at the time. She isn't named or anything but she gets a portrait done by the Crossbell arc artist
and only has like 3 lines. Its such a minor but kinda cool thing.

Ayumi-chan and Memers: Got it, I saw it on Steam, fairly good price too so I got them. Will take a crack at them after this. Eventually.
Also thinking about Rean's scar, and how his heart reacted to Chancellor Osborne, I have to speculate, does he have a scar as well?
Like this:
Gotta keep the Norman Osborn coincidental similarities going.
Wow, Red. That sounds like something out of a sitcom.
Giliath Osborne isn't the greatest of guys, but I think he is still generally a better person than Norman. Giliath from what I recall wasn't really into murdering people himself, and if Millium and the other Ironbloods are any indication, Giliath is probably a better parent, too.
And I'm glad you're finding Thomas funny. He probably ended up being one of my favorite NP Cs in the series.
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.Yeah Thomas always makes me laugh whenever he's on camera.
"Giliath from what I recall wasn't really into murdering people himself, and if Millium and the other Ironbloods are any indication, Giliath is probably a better parent, too."
I love how specific you are with this. Not actually ruling out that he's a bad guy, just that he doesn't get off murder and is good with kids.
Wait, so I'm guessing he has some weird adopted children thing going on just like Norman.
I'm very curious as to what his future dynamic will be like with Rean. I might be influenced by the Goblin jokes but I'm really starting to think something is there unironically.
Osborne: Rean! Good to see you! Have you foiled any more terrorist attacks and saved the lives of any noble girls since we last met??
Rean: Oh I'm honored by your compliments, your excellency, but I have a lot of help when-
Osborne: Now, now, Rean, modesty doesn't become men like us. Smart, driven, responsible. Self-made.
Rean: I'm... more of a work in progress.
Osborne: [with a significant glance at Cedric] At least you're making progress.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Holy shit, I made a team of Rean, Laura, Crow, and Milly and it is the most OP AS SHIT thing I've seen so far. Forget magic, just use arts to wreck crowds.
Crow also uses Demonic Scythe. Huh.
Out of all these four, which one is the best magic user? I have Fie and Emma as back up.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Should I invest long term in him? I know he's going to leave so I'd hate to make a team composition that relies too much on him.
I remember needing an entire summer to defeat Crow and blue thing back in the day when I was a kid.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Cold Steel has a system where, if I understand correctly, as certain points in the story characters have their levels brought up to either Rean's level or to a certain pre-set level. Either way, the game is specifically designed to prevent character from really being able to fall behind on level, so you don't have to worry about characters falling behind on experience.
And c'mon, does Misty really seem that suspicious?
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.Legit man, when I saw her, it all came coming back. Vita is evil! And has something to do with Emma.
Damn it, I still can't remember who died. This is bizarre. Someone died, and it sparked a civil war, but who was it?
And hey, bringing up Crossbell and the trade conference. This is in the Crossbell games right?
Towa was there in that pic.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Vita and Emma are both witches, and they knew each other before the start of the first game. I think that's about all that's covered in the first game. Though come to think of it, despite being on opposite sides through the whole series they are probably a more wholesome portrayal of adopted siblings than Rean and Elise.
...I can't remember if Vita had feelings for Rean or not, though I think her behavior did come off as kind of flirtatious.
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut. She legit jokes about having a tryst with him on live radio but she doesn't name him.
My god, even the villain ladies are falling in love with Rean. I hope it doesn't get more wild than this.
....Please don't tell me Alisa's mom flirts with him as well. That would be too much.
I like this trio, oddly Rean works well with Crow and Milly personality wise. The grounded guy who keeps those two crazies in check.
It's a shame both of them have their own agenda. They might have been good friends.
Ah, Milly is doing that thing little sisters just LOVE doing when they are 13. Rean really is me fr.
So I wanted to talk about about the Empire's politics, how DO all the cast feel about it's conquests? Milly casually talked about how Osborne annexed sovereign territory into the Empire and all the other characters react in shock to that like they are all uncomfortable with it.
Elliot, Laura, Alisa and Jusis are part of families that keep the Empire's war machine going. Laura has knightly values and honor so to see that from someone from an Imperial noble family is quite interesting, while Alisa comments on her mom's building of superweapons aimed at civilian centers in disgust but I don't recall her commenting on the war effort itself.
Heck, the royal siblings from what I see aren't too hot about conquest, Olivert comes off as too noble to want to take over the world, and he wants Class VII to be a better generation for the Empire and to promote understanding and unity between their social classes and the world in general. Alfin doesn't come off as pro imperialist, and Cedric talks about how great Osborne's reforms are, and that he has the strength of character to achieve it, but also doesn't remark on him conquering other nations for the Empire. Though if my gut feeling is correct, he's probably nodding in admiration.
Hell, the Empire even pursues equal relations with Gaius' people and a general speaks highly of them and recommended Gaius enter the school. But it's also doing imperialism in the background, and from what I understand, it wants to take over Crossbell.
The villains are the ones trying to stop the Empire's chancellor who is doing imperialism, and they have a lot of noble traits. It's quite interesting.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Alisa seems to see the Reinford Group much the same way her grandfather does; that by building weapons, they're ensuring Erebonia's safety. The Railway Canons are seen as bad because they lack actual defensive use, not specifically because they're destructive.
And no, we thankfully never seen Irina Reinford hitting on Rean.
I sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have a younger sibling. I'm not sure I would have liked it much.

Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut. Can't stand em, can't live without em.
So, seems Comrade G is going to attack the conference, and the dialogue makes it seem like he's going to die. Seems like he's got something up his sleeve without the flute. I can't wait for Rean and him to settle the score.
Oddly, I can't remember fighting him ever again.
