Maids at Christmas

Dawn of the 19th.

7 days remain

Yes, 7 days remain... and there's so much to be done!

Dumped in the middle of the floor in the entrance hall were several large boxes that had been dragged up from the basement the previous night. These boxes contained the decorations. There was quite a lot of it; the work was going to take several days. Hopefully it would be done in time.

There was also the matter that not a single Maid had bought any presents for the Master yet (the brat demanded them, and there was a good chance they wouldn't be getting anything in return). They couldn't all go shopping at once, though; the Master and Mansion needed care. They had been too tired last night to begin arguing about that, so there weren't any arrangements in place...

And in the top floor, which was entirely taken up by the Master's bedroom, The Grand High Honourable Lord Edwardski Pippington Fallsworth himself was sleeping. Visions of sugarplums may or may not have been dancing in his head. As the first rays of dawn began to peek through the windows, the day began.

Within the entrance, a brightly-coloured maid paced as she inspected the boxes, a somewhat worried look on her face. At first, you'd think her as nothing more than a child with an incredible obsession with explosive colours, but the child-like young adult was... well, a young adult.

Who happened to have her wings out at the time.

Decorating must be done, and I can easily reach all the high places... but getting the Young Master the bestest present sounds much more important. And fun. Erika wondered to herself. Just what kind of present should she get, though? It had to be worthy of Young Master's attention. Anything less would be an insult!

Do they sell figurines of me? Erika continued to wonder. Hm... maybe a magitek robot? Oh! Instant Maid Summoner! Which can only summon me!
Erika nodded in satisfaction. Yep, that sounded perfectly plausible and appreciated. Now to find a shop that sells them...

"Umm... how many colours of decorations are there?" Ami asked, knelt before one of the boxes and absent-mindedly playing with some baubles. The red-haired maid at least had a general colour theme going on with her own body, due to the pink uniform and red hair, but that was more serendipitous than planned on her part. After all, for all that the blind catgirl could do normal maid duties without the slightest lapse in success (beyond, perhaps, a tendency to put the wrong sauces in foods if she was distracted), she couldn't use her other senses to make up for a lack of any idea about colours or tasteful decoration.

It was nice to have the raven girl around! She was always so adorable and cute and... small! Trying to give her a hug would detract from maid duties, though, so that wasn't allowed. She didn't want her owner to decide she ought to be thrown out onto the streets... the last time she was there, people had kidnapped her and then had their cage blown up. Magic catgirl and all.

Distracted from her Perfect Gift Plan, Erika turned her head towards her fellow, blind, maid. "Uh, let's see..."
Stepping towards the catgirl, Erika took a peek inside, lifting decorations out at random. "Um, there's red, green, gold... oh, a white angel thing! Think that's it."

Erika glanced at all the other boxes. "We... might have more colours as well."

Digging through the decorations was a bit of a chore. But, for the sake of getting her payment and being a good maid, Alicia was doing her best. And she was doing her job fairly well, so far she'd set aside several garlands and a few appealing baubles to be used for decorating. After all, it wasn't time to get anything bigger out. That'd come later in the decorating process.

Well... okay, that wasn't the only thing she was doing. While she was keeping her flirting contained for the moment, she was eyeing the catgirl maid nearby.

"Umm... how about I just stick to doing our normal duties?" Ami suggested, standing up and stepping away from the boxes, "It should be easier on everyone if they don't have to correct bad choices of colour on my part..."

There was also the danger that the catgirl would overdecorate one spot and leave another almost completely bare. Decoration was not something to leave to the blind girl unless you wanted to spend more time fixing what she did incorrectly than putting up new decorations.

A haughty laugh echoes throughout the mansion. "That's probably a good idea Ami. I assume you also remember our last Holiday decoration."

Daisy walks down the stairs not seeming to shiver despite her black tights not giving her much warmth. "I assume you girls don't mind if I get the little guy a present right?"

"That means I'll take care of the cooking..." Rin said, glancing up from her position at the foot of the stairs. Many of the other maids seemed to be in a festive mood, so she could just let them continue in doing so.

"Whaaaaaat?" Erika turned to face Daisy, looking horrified. "No no no no! I already called dibs!"

I know what you're playing at! Erika thought accusingly. Trying to steal one of my amazing ideas because my ideas are amazing! As if I'd let that happen!

"Umm... does it matter much if two people go shopping? We have seven days to get all the decorations up..." Ami supplied, doing her best to act as a peacebroker between these two, or at the least remind them that there was no immediate danger of running out of time. No, they didn't all need to work on decorating... not today, at least.

Once again, the catgirl found herself absent-mindedly rolling a bauble across the floor.

Morning

As the sun rose higher into the sky, the light it gave shone brighter, illuminating the innards tower of Ziggurat Apocalypso. As the light shone into the boy's room, he began to stir in his sleep, and soon awoke.

Eddy sat up a little and aimed a simple telekinetic shove at the bell hanging above his door to call someone to ready him for the day, then lay back down and began counting the seconds.

Daisy sighs. "I'm sure there's enough of us that two can go get the little guy something. Don't be so paranoid."

"Umm... the master's calling?" Ami wondered, ears twitching. Yep, that sounded like his bell. This meant that he was awake... and dawdling would be a really bad idea. Not stopping to chat, the catgirl ran off towards the Master's bedroom.*

Daisy claps. "So...who wants to help me make breakfast?"

"Young Master's up already?" Erika asked. "Oh dear, dilemma time..."

What took precedence in this situation? Buying the greatest present ever made, or getting the young master all ready for today?

Well, Ami was already on her way, and it wasn't like she had a general idea of their home's layout... and since Daisy was offering to make breakfast, that left Erika free to go shopping...

Charlotte woke up a with the sunrise, a little bit before the sun would become bright enough to wake the master. First rays of light glistened on the porcelain skin of an artfully crafted golem. She quickly put on her pristine uniform and headed to the main hall, arriving right as the bell rang.

"Good morning, sisters. It seems that the master is awake already. Shall I tend to him?"

The question was more rhetorical in nature, seeing as she was heading to the master's quarters already, her feet clattering over the marble floors as she kept pace with the energetic catgirl.
