" Hell-hole! The Village of Dreams is home of ancient warrior!" Tapirmon said.

"Warriors!?" Haruka said a bit put back.

"It is a hell upon the face of the digital world," said Lopmon. Bitterly: "I should know; I was born there. I left the village a long time ago because of the irreparable attitude of its residents."

Lopmon's nose twitched. "Traitor? Coward? I am neither one nor the other," he said. He walked toward Tapirmon. "A coward won't have survived all of those years in the deserts around the village. And I did not seek to betray Antylamon, or the village; it was agreed that it would've been better if I would leave the village."

"That does not surprise me the least," said Lopmon. Sivan, meanwhile, stood a few metres away, at times shrugging apologetically at Rue, at times massaging her brow.
"Considering your rude and boorish behaviour, it's certain that she'd put you through hell," continued Lopmon, "she is strict."

This was...well not the best day of his life, but it was up there in good days he could remember.

This new Virtual Reality world really did for Alexander. Being one of the first few into it helped too.

His virtual clothing he had chosen was based somewhat on a military BDU, done up in digital camouflage (He had thought himself so funny at the beginning) and it fit him like a glove. When his 'partner' walked out though...

There had been absolute dead silence. For a little bit.

“Uh...you have got to be kidding...” The little dinosaur looking digimon had taken offense to that.

Hey!” The little guy was dressed in an adorable looking little BDU uniform, complete with helmet and spiked boots. There was nothing funny however about the very realistic looking rifle in his hands.

“So...uh...who are you?” God, Alexander thought, Could I sound any more whiny?

The little guy snapped to attention,

I am Commandramon, formerly private in the 1st Commandramon Battalion.

Huh. There must be a ton of these guys to count as a Battalion.

“Alright. I'm Alexander Tiberius. I guess I'm your...partner in this.” It was odd. He was a reservist soldier and they give him a Soldier digimon. Someone somewhere had to be laughing.

So they had left together and started traveling. Apparently Commandramon knew something of the conflict going on here. Something about Royal Knights and Demon Lords.

“So, these two groups are fighting each other for control of the digital world?” Alexander had asked. Commandramon nodded,

Yes. According to history, the Knights did control the Digital world until the Demon Lords came and screwed it up. I think...” It was the first admission that Commandramon didn't know everything. Alex was impressed.

“So we don't know if ether of these groups is to be trusted.” The little soldier shook his head,

No Sir.” Tiberius rolled his eyes,

“Didn't I tell you to cut it out with the sir?”

Yes Sir.

"You are a lost cause, Tapirmon," said Lopmon. "Antylamon is one of the only reasonable Digimon in that hell-hole of a village. She is perhaps the only one to show kindness, and respect; but she demands a lot in return. She is harsh, but fair."
Sivan, meanwhile, took a few steps, away from Lopmon and toward Rue. "Lopmon has to vent, I think," she said quietly, "and he might knock some sense into Tapirmon... I apologise for his lack of manners, but this seems very important to him."

Haruka sighed. "I'm not sure about Tapirmon. I can't see eye to eye to her at all to tell you the truth... And she keeps picking on me. But I don't like the sound of this village." she said sadly.

" And that's where you got your honor, right Master Tyranomon?" Tapirmon asked hopefully.

Gabumon facepalmed as Tapirmon quickly got into confrontation again.

“Can you go a day without getting into a fight with someone? He looked at Lopmon and the new human. “Please excuse Tapirmon's behavior. She... has a bit of a temper.”

- -

Leomon let a smile cross his face. Buraimon let out a joyous, yet controlled laugh.

“Well done, well done!”

- -

Lucemon turned his head slightly at the conversations the other Lords were having. He didn't really feel the need to contribute at this point, and as they neared the castle, he just smirked.

“Welcome home, everyone.”

"I'm really sorry... I just don't think I can control her... I'm afraid of what she'll do if I try." Haruka said bitterly admitting her own cowardice.

Tapirmon turned silent for a few seconds, thinking and deciding to drift off on her own in quiet.

May frowned at the annoying pest as he poked at her digivice. Batting him away with her hands, she shoved it into her pocket and turned to glare at him as left left. With a sigh, she lasped into silence as the group continued their treck.

"Forgiven," said Lopmon. He sighed, and climbed back to his customary position on Sivan's shoulder; she absentmindedly stroked his ear again, now holding her across the chest once more.
"Control is something she must learn herself; nobody will be able to if she isn't able to control herself," said Sivan. "Don't worry; I'm not angry, and I doubt Lopmon will be angry for long. Right?"
"Indeed."

Sivan shrugged. "You must find the power to do so within yourself, Rue; some people" —she shot a reproachful glance toward Tapirmon— "can point the way, but inner strength cannot be forced upon you." She sighed. "The first step, I think, is telling yourself you can, believing in yourself... For without that, you really cannot do anything."

The Overlords

After what felt like a solid two hours of walking without pause, Olivia was just about ready to collapse; the androgynous young woman was breathing heavily, and her face, ruddy from exertion, glistened softly with a thin sheen of sweat. Her arms were incredibly sore from carrying Syakomon for so long; the cowardly clam might not have been all that heavy, but he was big, cumbersome and awkwardly weighted, and the edges of his shell dug into her forearms in such a way that made her fingers tingle unpleasantly from lack of circulation. She would have much preferred to set the damned thing down take a break, but the group’s angelic guide had set them a punishing pace and given the players no chance to stop; and given Syakomon’s lack of mobility, they would have left him in the dust very quickly—and she doubted that he would have been able to catch up.

It was, she reflected, very much like that one asshole from Greek mythology, the one who’d been forced to push a huge boulder uphill forever and ever—a long, grueling and pointless task that never seemed to end. Still, if nothing else she could be glad of the exertion; the mere act of putting one foot forward now demanded such absolute concentration that she could tune out the incessant chatter of her fellow players and their Digimon.

When Lucemon finally announced that they had arrived, Olivia let out a bone-weary sigh of relief and promptly fell to her knees, paying no heed to the indignant squeak her timid partner let out as he dropped from her slack arms and too tired to care about the chill creeping along her legs as the damp jungle grass soaked her pants. The young woman did nothing but breathe deeply for a few moments, greedily sucking the disgustingly humid air of the rainforest into her lungs; once she had caught her breath, the overdressed college student raised her head and got her first look at the castle Lucemon had spoken of.

She had to admit, it made for quite a sight; dominating a vast field which had been cleared out of the surrounding jungle, and ringed by a deep mote filled with stagnant water, their headquarters was a perfect example of baroque architecture. That said, it had clearly seen better days; many of its windows were smashed or boarded up, its stone façade had crumbled away to leave small holes here and there, and the roof sagged dangerously in some places as though the beams supporting them had rotted away.

"And there we have it," said Lucemon. "A bit of a fixer upper, perhaps, but it’s home nonetheless."

As the angel spoke, someone with a sharp eye might have noticed a brief flash of movement from one of the windows on the second floor; the drapes there were rustling, as though something had just ducked behind them…

The Knights

The sound of heavy footsteps came from within the temple then, and Silas turned around as Buraimon and Leomon led Eric and his partner outside. The grey-eyed Canadian felt relief wash over him as he saw that the two were okay, and a smile spread across his face as he saw that Eric was holding the flowerlike Digi-egg of Kindness in his hands. Hawkmon paused in the sharpening of his feather and glanced over his shoulder towards the pair, then turned towards his partner and nodded.

"You see, my liege?" the avian Rookie said with the faintest hint of a grin. “’Tis exactly as I said; trust in them, and they shall succeed.”

With that, the maroon hawk carefully tucked his weapon back into the leather belt of his headband, then rose to his feet with far more grace than his awkward sitting position should have allowed and turned to face Veemon.

“Though I know not what manner of trials beset you within those walls, old friend, I am nevertheless pleased to see that you hath overcome them so ably; ‘twill be an honour to fight alongside thee once more, curse or no.”

Silas found himself blinking, surprised at the amount of deference in his partner’s tone; this was more than just concern for a friend or an ally, in his opinion—this respect, and possibly deference, for a fellow warrior. That was the sort of thing that could only be forged in combat, or so he’d heard, and the youth found himself wondering just what sort of things this mismatched group of once-legendary warriors had been through together—what sort of hardships had they endured, in order to build such bonds of brotherhood?

His train of thought was interrupted then, when Leomon spoke up.

“the first part of the prophecy has been fulfilled,” the Champion said, dropping respectfully to one knee as he did so. “Now that the Egg of Kindness has been claimed, our role in it is almost complete; there is but one last thing we must tell you before you leave, O Royal Knights.”

Like his companion, Buraimon had also dropped to one knee; and at this cue, the samurai bird now spoke up. “In addition to safeguarding the Egg of Kindness from those who would misuse it, we have also been entrusted with the location of the next; to find it, Tamer of legend, you must go northeast, to the Valley of Thunder. That is where it may be found, though we cannot say precisely where it is hidden, who guards it or what the egg’s nature might be.”

“The Valley of Thunder is a dangerous place,” Leomon continued, “and one that is not easy to reach; the journey to get there will take at least a day or two, possibly longer, and in your current states it may be more than you can handle. Fortunately, there is a village not far to the north; the Palmon who live there are friendly, and you should be able to pick up supplies for your journey there.”

The two guardians fell silent then and continued to kneel; it seemed like they were waiting to see if the Tamers had any questions.

Digi-egg? Curse? thought Sivan to herself. Obviously, there was much more than met the eye in that Veemon and his Tamer.
"The instructions are clear," she said. "With their permission" — she indicated the group with her hand — "I and Lopmon will travel with them; I feel that it is my duty to assist them in their quest."
"I agree," noted Lopmon.

" Digi-Egg?" Tapirmon asked incredulous. " That thing doesn't look like a Digi-Egg! It looks like a fancy paperweight."

Haruka sighed. "Stop it Tapirmon. Just stop it!" she snapped for a breif minute. "Sorry..." she said apaologizing immediately afterward. She hoped that whatever that thing was, it would make it easier for Eric. "I'd really like to know what that thing does... Please." she said, pushing her goggles into her eye sockets. She loosened her scarf in the heat, fearing for how she'd fare in this bizzare world.

While Joel wasn't a particularly athletic boy, he was able to make the journey with little trouble. Sweat stained his already shabby clothes, and the oppressive heat of the jungle seemed to wrap around him like a heavy blanket. He didn't like it here. Not in the least. But he's endure whatever punishments this place cared to throw at him, and with luck they'd all be headed home soon. Wormmon was fairly lightweight, at least, and he'd be mostly silent for the rest of the trip, save the occasional remark on the declining condition of the Digital World or comments on the appearance and demeanour of the others. He didn't like Wormmon either, and he suspected Wormmon didn't like him. There was something smug about him, a sense of entitlement only rivalled by the almost regal air that Lucemon wore around him like a cape.

Though Lucemon was at least somewhat tolerable. While the thief had little patience for people such as him, people who looked down on others, or Joel especially. The little angel was condescending at the best of times, but at the very least he was helpful. The caterpillar, on the other hand, merely sat there, half-asleep and content to laze about. He wasn't an exemplar of hard work and honesty himself, but at least Joel could recognize that you never got anything unless you worked towards it. He doubted Wormmon ever did a day's work in his life. It reminded him of himself, when he was young. Not to say he wasn't young now, but younger. Careless, thinking the world would simply bring him what he wanted on a silver platter. Joel had been robbed of that illusion a long time ago, and he had yet to decide if it was a good thing or a bad thing.

Ramblings aside, he turned his attention to the manor up ahead. The place was a wreck, but it was shelter, however temporary. Still, he could've at least asked for more stable accommodations. Joel wanted a roof over his head that didn't look like it could collapse with a sneeze. "Don't spend a lot on housekeeping, do you?" He muttered, his eyes darting towards the second floor window. Was there someone in there, something? it didn't matter. or now, he was content with having somewhere to kick his feet up.

When I get out of here, I am going to... going to give the guy who thought to make climate simulation this realistic what for.

He had been forced by the heat to take off his button-down shirt and roll it up, while his hair was more or less completely caked to the top of his head. His current state was not at all helped by the lump of blue/white digital fuzz and heat resting on his shoulder, long pink tongue lolling out. The amount of sweat the Virginian was suffering under was ridiculous, and seemed impossible even for a simulation.

On entering this clearing, he was relieved to feel the humidity lift, almost instantaneously in fact. He looked around at his bedraggled fellows, fanning himself with his hat. He was about to call out to the others, when he noticed Tsukaimon was still playing the part of a rather ugly fox-fur. Forgoing any warning, Alistair poked the Digimon with the hat brim. Tsukaimon didn't move an inch.—

"Aww c'mon, ya can't be dead yet!"

—Alistair gave the beast another poke, harder. Those wing-ears fluttered reflexively, and the fang-y mouth worked. Then one of the ears smacked the human in his face.—

"Gnnaaaaaargh, gowayyy boowooooka...zzzzzzzzzzz..."

—The Southerner stared daggers at the creature whom was supposed to be his partner in this game, then gave him one final prod with his hat, supplemented by puffing as hard as he could right at the critter's face.

The result was almost too fast for Alistair to see, but a moment later, the hat was firmly within Tsukaimon's jaws, and the creature's ear was giving the Virginian the most unique drubbing he had ever experienced. In response, his hands flashed upward before the dark Digimon could escape, trying their best to yank the hat out. —

"Oh now ya've gone an' dun it! Lit'le bastard, gimme! Gimme that!"

—Right at the peak of one pull, Tsukaimon let go, and Alistair was sent stumbling backward, arms waving. The impish thing giggled to itself, before blowing a raspberry and flying off towards the house. The Southerner stared after it, dusting his perforated hat off, his jaw clenched. Just as he put it back on, he noticed Olivia flopped down in the dirt after the long haul. Hitching a mild smile back on his face, he offered a hand. —

"Need any help with da luggage, Miss?"

"He could not know it. For it was not all a joke."
