I don't care if it's hand-drawn or not. I just want it to be a good movie.
We might be in for another Tangled-esque marketing campaign, though. And here come the whiners who haven't learned that lesson...

Looking for some stories? This is great news. I've thought for years that Disney should do The Snow Queen. I was majorly bummed out when they shelved the first iteration of the project.
I can't help but notice, though, that they tend to attribute success or failure to the most trivial, peripheral aspects of their films, and use those assumptions as their guidelines for future projects. John Carter of Mars has been re-named John Carter because of the inexplicable conviction that Mars Needs Moms flopped because of the word "Mars" in the title, and not, say, because it was a sucky film with an insulting premise.
Similarly, it looks like the thought process here went something like: "That's it! Fairytale movies are successful when you change the title from the name of a major female character to a thematically appropriate adjective that is also the past participle form of a verb!"
The real reason behind the John Carter of Mars name change to John Carter was because Stanton and Disney felt that having Mars in the title killed any chance of the film having a female audience. Even with an Mr. Fanservice lead like Taylor Kitsch.
And Mars Needs Moms was also a case of Never Trust a Trailer (if any of the people in this forum actually saw the film instead of dismissing it immediately because it was motion capture). The film is more of an adventure film (similar to Monster House) rather than a comedy.

More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/I didn't dismiss it because of that. I dismissed it after reading some reviews.
That's why they changed it? I think they underestimate females. I'm interested in it...then again, I'm not really your average female. Oh, whatever. John Carter of Mars is the name of the last book in the series, anyway.
Looking for some stories? This is what I got from an article online criticizing Disney for the lack of marketing a few months before opening (I forget which site had it). They also mentioned that the film's budget is $250 million (the third-highest budget ever for a film) due to reshoots that Stanton had done to improve the film.
The bright side is that the film is testing very well.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/A movie in Development Hell since The '30s deserves to do well, IMO.

Looking for some stories? So anyway, back to Snow Queen. How do you think it should be done? And I don't mean hand-drawn vs CGI. Should it be lighthearted? Dark? Mixture of both? I heard a while ago that they were planning to make it dark. Do you hope they're still going with that?
Looking for some stories?I just hope they make the Snow Queen herself a case of The Fair Folk and/or Blue-and-Orange Morality rather than a typical Disney villain.

Well, the Snow Queen story IS pretty dark, so I hope they keep it that way. It probably needs a character for comedy relief, though. This'd actually be a good one for Disney, especially now; unless I'm mistaken, isn't the male lead, having been kidnapped/ensorcelled/mind-screwed/whathaveyou, rescued by the female lead? Be good for them to have an active heroine.
Yay! I hope this turns out to be just as good as Tangled and better. And I think it will be hand drawn because I remember reading somewhere that Disney is doing a thing where every other year they'll release a hand-drawn movie. Example: PATF, Tangled, Winnie The Pooh, Wreck It Ralph, Snow Queen.

CGI vs. Hand-drwan war-bullshit aside, if it's as good as or better than Tangled (which was kick-ass awesome enough to me), I'm just glad it's getting made and someone cared enough to revive it.
Maybe fairy-tales aren't as dead as we think they mostly are. Though I'm not a huge fan of modernizations of fairy tales (because it usually backfires mostly from being in the hands of people who don't understand their audience, nor have respect for their intelligence, especially if they're kids), it's hopefully just the title that needed tweaking.
Even Though I would come up with a better title than "Frozen"... I'll be keeping my eye on this one (too bad it won't be ready until the end of 2013. Oh, well.).
This is where I, the Vampire Mistress, proudly reside: http://liberal.nationstates.net/nation=nova_nacioThey're employing the same strategy they used with Tangled; draw in boys by covering up the actual story. Dumb as it was, it did work...
Looking for some stories? Will there be three people stuck in a ski lift in this one?
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/... I also don't understand why is Snow Queen so exceedingly covered in fur. In the Soviet cartoon she only wears a coat when she's outside
◊. Dammit, she's a queen of ice, she doesn't even feel cold.

STEALTH!!!Eh, people associate heavy coats and fur with cold. It's a Rule of Perception thing - it's why in any cartoon where someone comes from the north they'll be wearing a coat all the time, despite the fact that even the heat without a coat would be pretty bad for them in a lot of climates.
As for the hand drawn thing, I think it will be. I'm probably wrong but I think I'd heard that Dinsey is releasing movies as hand-drawn, CGI, hand-drawn etc. once per year. This year was Whinnie the Pooh, which was hand drawn. Frozen doesn't come out until 2013, so...
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.

It'd better be hand-drawn.
