We're going to appoint people in each of the subforums to welcome newbies in by an automated PM and show them how things work in the particular subforum.
The appointment thing is so that at least one person knows it is their job, and so the newbie doesn't get buried under a PM onslaught the first time they post.
We will give the appointee (now called Heralds) a spiffy icon badge so people will know they are on the job for everybody. There will also be access to a report that shows who is new in the subforum.
If you want to apply for the position, all you have to do is post a welcome draft here. That way, a moderator will consider you. If someone else has already applied for the position, don't worry! Multiple people can apply for one subforum.
This is a list
of the heralds that have already been appointed and the subforums that still need heralds. Positions that are labeled as being held by "TVTropes" are vacant along with positions that are blank.
Open sections with inactive heralds:
- Betsyandthe Five Avengers — World Building
- Ori Doodle — Old Folks Home
- JHM — Music

From what I remember Shimaspawn was most active. I think she's preoccupied with other more important matters at the moment, though.

I'm not crazy, I just don't give a darn!... damn...
Well, I do still see the badge on his account, so it's temporary perhaps?
I now go by Graf von Tirol. There's a system which hooks and unhooks heralds. However, this ban is less than a day old and we've been having other issues to deal with.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerNo wait, I spoke too soon. Don't assume stuff yet, like I just did.
I'm not crazy, I just don't give a darn!Yea, unless we all be ban hammered, but if motor can not be back, i throw my hat in the ring as the Forum Games Herald.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXkI1sTDoEgCan I get a list of the appointed heralds so far?
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI may be interested in trying for the "Forum Games" Herald, but my run for IJAM still stands.

I now go by Graf von Tirol. What is the process of applying for a herald position, apart from making a PM for welcoming newcomers, being active in the subforum of interest, and sending said PM to the Fast One for consideration / approval?
I think I would like to be considered for the Wiki Talk subforum herald position.

You only need to post your draft here and we will consider you.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerWelcome to Wiki Talk
Unlike the other subforums in the Wiki and Forums section, the Wiki Talk section is fairly open as far as what threads can be about, so long as they relate to the site and issues pertaining thereto. This forum is the central location for policy discussion and formation, although most questions and discussion that don't belong in one of the other subforums in the section probably go here too. With that said, if you have a specific issue with a particular article or a problem editor, you should probably go to Ask The Tropers to get said issue addressed. We also have Lost And Found for tropers looking to find a particular trope, and Remember That Show for those looking for a particular work. If you have a new trope idea, you should head to YKTTW (short for You Know, That Thing Where...)
The other subforums in this section are (in no particular order):
- Trope Repair Shop - for addressing issues with a particular trope, such as misuse or possible duplication of a trope.
- Special Efforts - for mass-scale projects requiring the work of many editors, such as namespacing or major clean up efforts.
- Content Violation Discussions - for discussing the site's content policy regarding explicit content as found in works. More information can be found here.
- Sandbox - for testing markup on the wiki. This subforum is not considered an On-Topic Forum, but please be mindful of the purpose of the subforum.
- Tech Wishlist and Bug Reports - for reporting technical issues with the forum or the site, and requesting new features.
- Image Pickin' - for proposing, replacing, and removing images from various wiki pages.
- Trope Talk - for discussion of particular tropes and relationships between tropes. Specific issues should be posted on the page's discussion page though.
- Translations - for assisting in translating the wiki into various languages. If you are fluent in a language other than English and would like to assist, this is the subforum for you.
Like all subforums in this section (except the Sandbox), every thread in the section should be considered an On-Topic Discussion. Derailing a conversation here is cause for thumps, and repeated thumps may result in a forum ban. If you have an issue that doesn't seem to be covered in a thread, feel free to start a new one, but please check the first page before doing so, especially the stickied threads located at the top of the page.
The rules
are strictly enforced here, and you should read and understand them before posting. The most important rule is to be civil - while it is fine to disagree with site policy and offer suggestions, please do so in a respectful manner. Incivility will not be tolerated. Complaint threads are not allowed either - if you have issues with the site, please be open minded and understanding, and come with thoughtful criticisms and suggestions. Please also be mindful that the administration has reasons for doing things the way they are, so if your suggestion is not accepted, respect the decision of the staff. Harassing them after being asked to stop is grounds for an immediate ban.
If you have questions about this subforum, feel free to respond to this PM with your concerns. If you have questions with site policy, you should feel free to contact the staff, who you can find on this page. Please don't PM them for general issues though; it's best to go through Ask The Tropers (wiki-side) or the Holler System (the yellow triangle above every post; forum-side).
So again, welcome to the subforum, and on behalf of the staff and everyone here, we hope you enjoy yourself and will make a valued contributor to this site.
Here's a rough draft for a heraldship position for this subforum.

I now go by Graf von Tirol.![]()
Much, much better than mine. You obviously have a much better understanding of that subforum than I do.
I was just about to post that! Good thing I refreshed the thread before hitting send. (The list is still in my post's source.
) It's been a while, so a check on the activity status on some tropers may be necessary.
In Other News
Betsyandthe Five Avengers, the current herald for World Building, hasn't posted anything since the twenty-third of February. Need forum users be active to be heralds?
Man, being the messenger can be difficult sometimes. I don't mean any harm.
Oh, I didn't check the troper page. Hm.

I'm not crazy, I just don't give a darn!Added links to Lost And Found, You Know That Show, and provided a brief description of the other subforums in this section of the forums. Also working on a bit of cleanup of the part about offering criticisms, suggestions, and complaints (the last being verboten).
Betsy's page is cutlocked, so I think it's fair to say that position is open.

Looking real good! Anyways, I wonder how people think of mine, since I gave it a few changes today.
I now go by Graf von Tirol.

Probably.
When I was made Herald, Fast Eddie was the one doing the promoting. I'd just recently changed my account from Shadow Bender to this one, Shadow Bender is for roleplaying purposes now.
