We're going to appoint people in each of the subforums to welcome newbies in by an automated PM and show them how things work in the particular subforum.
The appointment thing is so that at least one person knows it is their job, and so the newbie doesn't get buried under a PM onslaught the first time they post.
We will give the appointee (now called Heralds) a spiffy icon badge so people will know they are on the job for everybody. There will also be access to a report that shows who is new in the subforum.
If you want to apply for the position, all you have to do is post a welcome draft here. That way, a moderator will consider you. If someone else has already applied for the position, don't worry! Multiple people can apply for one subforum.
This is a list
of the heralds that have already been appointed and the subforums that still need heralds. Positions that are labeled as being held by "TVTropes" are vacant along with positions that are blank.
Open sections with inactive heralds:
- Betsyandthe Five Avengers — World Building
- Ori Doodle — Old Folks Home
- JHM — Music

Minor nitpick: Second point should be using "too" at the start, not "to".

Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The StaffThat Human, if you you mean what if a Helrald won't be coming to the forums anymore, I suppose what we'd have to do is transfer that subforum to a new Herald. Hopefully, the departing herald will let us know about the change, and not just simply disappear.
Should be able to hook up some more volunteers today.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittySo..................

Now what?
I guess I just wait?
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.Hmm, looking at the Image Pickin' message. A few points worth mentioning:
- Remember, if you're voting to pull an image, you're voting that the current image is worse than having no image at all.
- Sometimes we can't decide on any image, or no images are suggested, and we leave the page intentionally imageless.
- Image Pickin' decisions are not final. If you find a new image later that you think is better, you're allowed to start a new discussion.
- Remember to add unused images to the Image Links page.
I'd add a note to "Image Pickin' decisions are not final." mentioning griefing.
Fight smart, not fair. What if a herald created another handle and started to use their herald account as a backup? Will their herald-ness be transferred?
Sanity? Why would I need a useless thing like that? Now posting as Motor-Runner.Sorry, that was me earlier (Shadow Bender). The question concerned me, because I'm making this new account my main one instead.
I would like to volunteer to be a Herald for the Forum Games sub-forum. As for automatic PM, here goes:
DRAFT ONE
Forum game threads are created everyday (even you can create yours), and depending on how many people take an interest to it, could either become very popular or die off. Some may even seem to have died off, only to become popular in a few months!
This is also a less-serious subforum than the Role Playing Games sub-forum in that you don't need to create a sign-up and discussion thread for your forum game, all you need do is to simply start playing. Still, that does not mean that there are no rules governing the Forum Games sub-forum and it's posters.
Rules:
- The Super-Serious Forum Games rule thread can be found here.
- This sub-forum isn't an excuse to act out sexual fantasies. Any thread made for that purpose will be promptly reported and nuked, as cybering is against the rules of the Forum as a whole.
- If you have something to say that isn't on-topic, either use PMs or spoiler tags. Derailing threads is discouraged.
Obey these rules and we'll all get along nicely. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, your questions would be gladly answered.
Now go play a forum game of your choice and most of all: Have fun!
How was that? Did I miss anything?

ARCHITECT POWAHHH! Will soon be posting as 'Firebird'... [[http://tinyurl.com/ttwiktlk Wiki Talk SubforOkay, once again bringing back up stuff that seems to have been overlooked (if not excuse me, this thread is a bit cluttered).
So what goes there instead? The cuddlepile is a fun hangout thread with cuddling.
ARCHITECT POWAHHH! Will soon be posting as 'Firebird'... [[http://tinyurl.com/ttwiktlk Wiki Talk SubforI understand now. The cuddleplie ideally should be in Yack Fest.
ARCHITECT POWAHHH! Will soon be posting as 'Firebird'... [[http://tinyurl.com/ttwiktlk Wiki Talk SubforTropers/Gilphon, you are hooked up for Anime & Such.
Liberated Liberater, you are hooked up for Visual Novels. Gonna ask you to make an effort to keep it cool and set an example.
VmKid, you are hooked up for Tech Wishlist.
Willbyr, IP-n-you.
Ori Doodle, you are in for Old Folks. Do you think you could set an example a little bit better around spelling and good writing form? Especially needed for folks to fit in around the old folks.

Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyI've been having some second thoughts about my position as expressed elsewhere. Is there anything else I can do to help make my subforum a better place? I mean, I've only fielded two genuine questions so far, the others were all either thanks for the PM, or questions about why they got one.
go ahead and do every stupid thing you can imagineOh you mean my spelling and grammar? Certainly, Eddie, and thanks for your patience (I type fast without looking—something to work on). Shall I add that to the letter, or is the letter already automated?
"Welcome to the porch."
In case you haven't read it yet, the following sums up The Old Folks.
You ever been to one of those big family reunions, where there's dozens of people of all ages? Noticed how the kids tend to find someplace where they can run around and play and be loud and sort of wild, and the older aunts and uncles tend to congregate somewhere away from the loud kids and talk? Sometimes the talk is serious, and sometimes it gets silly. If the kids want to come over and join the conversation, the adults don't chase them away, but they are expected to be calm and behave. That's what this forum is — the old farts sitting around on the porch talking while the kids played tag and chased the dog and had squirt gun fights over there in the yard.
That said, Hi there Troper!
Welcome to the Old Folk's Home. This is pretty much Yackfest for us older folk. We're a pretty laid-back group here, and we welcome people of all physical age—but there are a few important guidelines.
1. You should be willing to act like you are seventeen or even older. Leave the drama and the angst, but please bring your brain.
2. Speaking of leaving things, forum memes and image chains are not really appreciated in this sub-forum.
3. Thread derails, so long as the topic is interesting, are fine here. This is as much a chatterbox place as the other Just For Fun segments.
4. This forum moves pretty slowly; we all have jobs and lives off of the internet. If you posted in a thread and there's not an immediate response, cool your jets. We saw it.
5. Incidentally, 'bring your brain' also applies to spelling and grammar. We'll be patient, but we expect you to do at least a quick read-through before posting. [Tropers-under-the-influence not exempted]
6. All other Forum rules apply. See [[The Rules https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=365rl6gt9w6vijv1envyi76j
]] for more information.

Doodles

No one has volunteered for Media Recs, and that's my favorite sub-forum. So here goes.
Hi there, and welcome to Media Recommendations! If you are looking for the next thing to watch/read/play/whatever, you've come to the right place. Pick a thread that relates to what type of media you want, and post a description/idea/"It's similar to X"/whatever to describe what you want.. If you want your recommendation process to include multiple types of media, we have the Media In General thread
. Otherwise, go help someone else out with their request for a Movie/Game/Anime/whatever1
Rules:
Have Fun!
