Since we have a thread for improving the descriptions for tropes
, I thought I would make one for improving descriptions for works. This is also a good place for requesting creator page cleaning.
Here are some common problems with many work descriptions:
- Over-analytical Walls of Text: Many works that have a high Troper Critical Mass have egregiously long descriptions, and could use some trimming, possibly moving some of it to the Analysis page.
- Critical reception/audience reaction cruft: "Edit Tip #12: We are not interested in whether or not something is or was popular. Whether or not it was liked has nothing to do with tropes." In other words, work descriptions should not contain paragraphs nor any mention at all about how the work was received. Zap it.
- Editorialism: A similar issue to the above, some tropers have a tendency to try to sneak stealth reviews into works' descriptions. This is obvious deletion fodder - Kill It with Fire.
- Plagiarism: Copy-pasted text from another source, such as Wikipedia.
So just post any work or creator page descriptions that are in need of cleanup and we'll see what we can do.

ComicBook.Gotham High's description seems like it was copy-pasted straight from the publisher's description.

BRATS Of The Lost Nebula doesn't really have a description that talks about the work's plot.

It also has only two tropes.
Added an example and added context to another, so now it's got four.
I want to bring up Bowen Yang here, as his description honestly seems more like assorted SNL trivia than about him. Can I cut all the info about previous cast members and just go with "first Chinese-American cast member and one of the first openly LGBTQ+"?

Does it look like we should/could merge any of the paragraphs I've added to the top of Creator.Pedro Pascal over these past few months?
Just dropping by to note that the bulk of the description of Varney the Vampire is copy-pasted from Wikipedia with only minor changes.
Do we have a sandbox for collecting pages that need rewriting because of plagiarism? The chance that anyone who is both able and willing to care about this will see this post is very slim, but I think we should store that information somewhere for posterity.

Tetris Worlds, despite its lengthy description, has a trope list consisting of only two ZCEs, and has received exactly one non-trivial edit since its creation in 2012 — that edit being by ~Laudy 777 at a surprisingly recent two weeks ago. Its YMMV page is also a stub with nothing but two ZCEs.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.
Showtime's page description needs a bit of reworking as it's too detailed and essentially gives the entire plot away.
Maintenance?

Also, for some reason, the Light Novel tab claims it's not found on any articles, despite being indexed on Light Novel. I checked; it's not a redirect.

Desperation’s description seems to be a recap of the whole plot.

It could be shortened by putting spinoffs and cameos into one paragraph, like Christmas Nights and Sonic Pinball Party.
