I bought Starflyer 59's Ghosts of the Future vinyl box set because it had a bunch of exclusive songs. That convinced me to spend about $100 getting an old record player back in working order. Now I'm hooked.
I just collected some out of my mom's closet.
I've expanded my collection a bit after going through my mom's records:
- Elton John Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
- Kenny Rogers The Gambler
- Bruce Springsteen Live/1975-85
- Creedence Clearwater Revival (No album title; has a dollar bill burning on the cover. It might be self-titled but it doesn't have the same cover as the one on Wikipedia.)
- Kenny Rogers Gideon
- Willie Nelson Stardust
- A very old Hank Williams 10" single Lovesick Blues with B-side Never Again. I set it to 45RPM but it still sounds too slow. This was her mom's or dad's.
- Lady Gaga Born This Way (mine)
- Huey Lewis and the News Sports
- A metric shit-ton of Simon and Garfunkel records.
- Genesis Invisible Touch
- Alabama Mountain Music
- Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Uncle Charlie and His Dog Teddy
- Lady Gaga Born This Way: REMIX (mine)
- Billy Joel An Innocent Man
- George Thorogood Bad to the Bone
- A lot of Neil Diamond
- Star Wars soundtrack
- Fleetwood Mac Rumors
- A Fistful of Dollars soundtrack
- The Good the Bad and the Ugly soundtrack
- John Denver (Multiple)
- The Highwaymen (Self-titled)
There's others, but I haven't gone through them all yet. Most of them are late 70s to early 80s. She's got a lot of very good country records.
I'm getting these albums in the mail soon:
- Ladytron Velocifero
- Ladytron Gravity the Seducer
- Ladytron Witching Hour
- Eurythmics Sweet Dreams are Made of This
- The Buggles The Age of Plastic
- Hanks Williams Greatest Hits

Trust me, diamond tips at least wear down eventually. My father and I just unearthed his old stereo system a couple of years ago, and the diamond tip of the needle was seriously worn down. Unfortunately, we can't find a replacement to match the model.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Oh, if it's that long then I don't think I should really worry.
They (audiophiles) were talking about replacing it every six months and how you needed to spend money on the $500 needles or else it'll sound like shit. I'm using the needle that came with the set and it sounds great on my stereo.
Should I get one of those brushes that Amazon suggests you clean records with or are they just trying to sell me something useless? I've just been using my boyfriend's old eyeglass cloth.

That makes sense.
My Eurythmics album came in today; it was extremely dirty and would skip constantly. I looked up how to clean them and I found this:
- 1) Run it under warm water.
- 2) Get a soft-bristle toothbrush and put Dawn on it.
- 3) Scrub it.
- 4) Let it dry.
The album runs great now; there's only a few crackles here and there.

I bought my first record player today after I scoured through some of my mom's old records. I bought a Lady Gaga remix album to go with it. I plugged it in and hooked it up at home and was absolutely floored by the bass and the quality of the sound. I'd always assumed that vinyl records went out of style due to quality issue and not for the obvious reason of portability.
But I'm sold on vinyl. I'll be buying my albums in that format from now on. The quality is incomparable.
Anyone else like vinyl?
