No, troper tales were annoying,, borderline blogs of people typing out how "LOL OMG I'm such a Complete Monster, and my sister and me have some Brother–Sister Incest going but she's so Tsundere about it". It was awkward for everyone involved.

This? This is just rife with mysterious examples and in desperate need of a cleanup.

^ It was cleaned up, but the misuse continues to pile up.

[up] Again, it's like trying to clean up an area affected by a sewage leak while the sewage is still flowing into it. I cannot stress this enough.

We really need to change the NightmareFuel namespace and actually move the current page rather than just custom titling it.

There's been like three attempts to fix this stuff while I've been on the site, which is only like a year, tops. I still think we should just get rid of it. It's entirely broken, there's no way to fix it into a valid trope. The only thing I can see is make it a 'moment of' or move to sugar wiki or wherever that gushing stuff goes.

I say flush everything that isn't in-universe.

Wasn't Nightmare Fuel custom-titled into "Accidental Nightmare Fuel"?

[up][up] Actually, the in-universe stuff should be given a separate trope instead, if only for the difficulty of sorting out which is which in what we have now, let alone that of policing whatever's left to prevent misuse.

There really is no reason to keep this broken mess of a trope.

Even if we keep the in-universe stuff as a trope we can't have the name related to Nightmare Fuel at all or the misuse will probably wash over.

I'd say cut it; if you've cleaned it up before and people keep adding examples that were not accidental, then it's clear that unless you ban every single troper whose done that to the page they'll keep adding them back on.

Besides, the trope seems more like Troper Tales than anything else, and those are gone. There's no real reason to keep it around anyway if most of the examples are already on HONF.

That could severely diminish the implied extent of scariness to the latter, which has already been somewhat diminished by misinterpretations both of the trope and of the works claimed to apply. (Let alone Fan Myopia about people wanting to make given works out to be "especially scary" or whatever.)

I've should've been clear. I mean Take High Octane Nightmare Fuel and just simply rename that Scary Moments.

I'm fine with either cutting it or sticking it on Sugar Wiki, but it can't be allowed to stay.

I'll admit I kinda liked reading that other people also had that fear of Dark Passage and Misty Bog from Spyro The Dragon, but that's definitely not something we should still have here. Just my own nostalgia getting the better of me. Almost all the entries are Troper Tales but without the… well, there was a huge thread about it and I'm not gonna be parroting it. As was said before, it is beyond saving.

I'm not crazy, I just don't give a darn!

The thing is, the trope namer is an In-Universe thing.

"Nightmare Fuel" has a Trope Namer?

And we need to take that custom title off. Breaks alphabetization, doesn't encourage use of the full label.

[up][up][up]I would never put the Nightmare Fuel entries on par with the Troper Tales. Troper Tales could get downright disturbing, and for the most part Nightmare Fuel examples are benign. I wouldn't put someone being afraid of Sesame Street on par with Brother–Sister Incest Troper Tales...

So yeah, move everything to HONF and rename that to Scary Moments.

Switching the Nightmare Fuel redirect to High Octane, (after going though the wicks.) would work.

Hell just making Accidental to say Accidental Scary would fix this IMO.

I still think HONF needs to be renamed. It's not mutually-exclusive enough with "Accidental". If it's supposed to be "Intentional Nightmare Fuel" it should be called that.

[up] That's because "high octane" is a forced pun on the "fuel" theme and the average reader has no idea what it really means ("more efficient", perhaps?). We had the exact same problem with the previous name ("unleaded", which was supposed to mean "extra strong" but which many people took for "weaker").

I really don't want this to become the next Troper Tales. Unlike Troper Tales, which was a Flame Bait distraction from the rest of the wiki, I still see some value in Nightmare Fuel. I don't think that HONF is a good fit for the Sugar Wiki. We should keep that stuff on the wiki that shall not be named, and maybe put the "accidental" nightmare fuel on the Sugar Wiki as Scary Moments.

Do not obey in advance.

[up][up]And, just as important, Nightmare Fuel But Stronger isn't a trope anyway, yet that's what the name suggested.
