I'm not very familiar with the Tintin series; is the upcoming Tintin movie intended for those not very familiar with it? Is it supposed to be a good way to learn about the series?

To adress the OP's question, Tintin albums*

, with the exception of some of the multipart stories (Like "The Seven Crystal Balls" / "The Temple of the Sun" or "Destination Moon" / "We Walked on the Moon") have no strong continuity. Yes, they take place in the same universe, yes, they have recurring characters beside Tintin and Hadock.

So odds are the movie will have no trouble acting as an "introduction" since most Tintin albums are meant to be picked up and read with only minimal contact with the others.
