I've heard TFA called "Legacy of the Force except good."

speaking of nihilus i've been looking into the game recently and decided i'm probably going to play Kot R I and 2 at some point.

i believe they aren't canon anymore but tbh i don't really care. a good story is a good story, after all.

The games aren't canon but events from them look to still be. The Scourge of Malachor V is mentioned as being where Kylo's lightsaber design was first used thousand of years ago in the dictionary.

I'm almost done with KOTOR 2 after replaying it (messed up the HK factory which apparently means Malachor will not go bye-bye) and it still holds up pretty well.

It's just the Scourge of Malachor, I believe. Not Malachor V.

Yeah sorry.

(I don't think people in KOTOR even said the V when talking about it now that I think about it. Kreia might be the only one)

So on the big map you have "The colonies" and "The expansion region" hubward of the rim. Did the republic used to be much smaller and grew rimward over time, (and how long ago was this?) or do those names predate even the republic, and imply a predecessor?

HamburgerTime Since: Apr, 2010

Those names come from Legends. The Galaxy has two main trade routes: the Perlemian going northeast and the Correllian going south, and most of the settled Galaxy is between the two. The Colonies and Expansion Regions were the subject of the first and second big pushes of settlement respectively.

Here's new map btw

It seems the First Order is located on the left hand side of the Galaxy. Also Hosnian Prime is right next to Corellia.

And I'm kinda surprised that Jakku seems to be in the inner rim.

You'd think the Republic would count this as an invasion considering FO troops touched down on Jakku.

One theory I've heard, based on that map and the planet's climate is that the planet converted into Starkiller Base was Ilum, also known as one of the main sources of lightsaber crystals for Old Republic Jedi. Ouch.

Yeah, the Republic was founded in the Core Worlds (all of those statues outside the Senate building are known as the "Avenue of the Core Founders), and all of the Colonies came from a huge amount of hyperspace exploration that came before the Republic began when planets from all over sent out hyperspace beacons and whatnot to allow their citizens to be able to make it through hyperspace. Until new routes were charted a lot of the nations in the galaxy were along those trade routes, except for ones like the Empire of Xim, the Hutts, the Rakkata, and a number of others like that.

That map when I saw it in the book made me go "Wow, Revan's party went all over the galaxy. I always thought they kept to one region before moving to the end game at Rakata Prime". Oh and "Malachor is probably destroyed because almost all other planets mentioned in the book are here on the map apart from it and Taris(who have a senator in the book)".

What are D'Qar, Rattatak, and Malastare from? I don't recognize those names.

HamburgerTime Since: Apr, 2010
#7570: Jan 6th 2016 at 3:54:50 PM

[up] D'Qar is the jungle planet with the Resistance base. Rattatak is Asajj's adopted home. Malastare is where Dugs, Sebulba's people, come from.

Malastare was mentioned in TPM as a planet where podracing exists.

D'Qar is where the Resistance base is.

And Rattatak is where Ventress was raised.

Which is a great lesson in how shitty colonialism is because the Gran "colonized" it, at least in the old EU.

Also there's podracing on Malastare.

Qui-Gon mentioned it in the Phantom Menace.

Like. The actual movie, I mean.

"They have podracing on Malastare. Very fast, very dangerous."

And Rattatak is where Ventress was raised.

Wait, I thought she was from Dathomir?

[up] Born on Dathomir, raised on Rattatak. Rattatak has a species called Rattataki, which Ventress was originally intended to be from, but after the retcon it was said that she just pretended to be one, including shaving her head (Rattataki have no hair while Dathomirians do).
