-Many of the people in the glass tanks look very similar to each other-
-Funny that-
-If you can focus enough to see it that is-
-That, Steph, is the older blood trail-
-In the storage room, there are two machines-
-One is like the tubes, although there is a lot more security around this one-
-More wires, bonds inside the tube-
-Well-
-There was-
-Because the tube has been broken, showering something like glass across the floor-
-But it can't be glass because when you step on it it doesn't break-
-The edges of the tank are tipped with blood-
-The second machine looks like a garbage bin with a big red button on it-
-It looks as if someone has taken an angry sledgehammer to it-

... to him again. I couldn't hide it from him. He knows that something is wrong. I couldn't tell him. He's just a boy.
He's a good person, I can see that. It was just bad luck that brought him here. The Doctor is sure that it will work if we use him. But this can't be the Will's desire. It can't.
Why are we using demons? Using people in this way?
The final experiment begins tomorrow. It will continue for a time. Will help him.

That's right. Those are the stakes we are dealing with.
But it is a lot to think on. You may retire, to get some food and rest, if you wish.
-Lance-
Not tomorrow, at least. Perhaps the next day.
Dr. Barkley.
Y-yes sir?
You're dismissed too. You have your authorisation. We need it.
-He leaves quickly, muttering something under his breath-

That's right. We have to keep our army provisioned, after all.
-As Lance leaves, he will see Dr. Barkley closing a door, looking around furtively-
-He is in there with another man, and he looks like he was in a hurry-

... proceeding well. He's still alive. He is taking to the preparations well, and he takes to the location as if he was born for it.
I spoke to him today, in the tank. He doesn't hate me, he says. Doesn't blame me. I must just be following orders. He says I'm the only person who's been good to him here, and that I should leave.
He doesn't hate me.
Somehow that's even worse than if he did.
Tomorrow we overwrite his memories. Program in a new personality. Our own perfect little soldier. Then we can get started on finalising the process.
This will all be over soon.
-Oh hey there they are C Loud-
-FACTORY-
-The machine was originally tall and wide-
-As big as the tube-
-The button on it says DISPOSE-
-There is ash in the bottom of it, spilling onto the floor-
-Dot may notice the second blood trail, to the mind room-
-Archer will find-
-A chair in the soul room-
-Strange diagrams-
-Needles on it that would poke into a body, like acupuncture-
-But a whole lot worse-

Follow your friend. He should show you the way, he should know it.
Forgive my shortness. I have something else on my mind.

I couldn't do it.
No. That's not right. I did the only damn good thing I've done in years.
We got as far as erasing his memories. Most of them, anyway. I suppose that means I've practically killed him already. But when the Doctor's back was turned, I managed to hit the cutoff. He's none the wiser. The program still ran. It just didn't get through to him.
And he's a hack anyway. One set of brainwaves looks the same as any other to him.
After that we completed the ritual. He knows his stuff there, at any rate, and I couldn't stop that. He's alive, still. The Doctor was right after all, whether by coincidence or design. This would have been the success.
But they won't get him. And they won't be able to mass produce this either.
He's sleeping, now, in storage. Nobody knows anything yet.
-There is only one page left in the book after this-
-The last one-
-Chris looks up as Cloud comes in-
-But doesn't say anything as he leaves-

-If Archer knew about the other group, he would recognise some of these designs-
-They are the same symbols as those that appeared on the belt-
-Some of them, anyway-
-When Dot goes in the room-
-There is a chair, with a horrible helmet-
-And miscellaneous machinery, for monitoring brainwaves, and for... something else-
-Horrible wires and computers-
-Behind all of this, where the blood leads-
-She will find a single, police officer's hat-
-There is a piece of paper poking out of the rim-

-His eyes are a bit red-
Good. That's good. Do you need any help?
