They're much more common than you'd think in Chicago. Most of those cases get shunted off to Special Investigations, because the other departments usually don't want to deal with stuff like people having their heart torn out for ritual sacrifices. The head of SI, Lt. Murphy, she's a good friend of mine, so I usually get called in on that sort of case. It's not usually pretty. Or fun. But it pays the bills, and it keeps the monsters who do it off the streets.
UN JOUR JE SERAI DE RETOUR PRÈS DE TOIOh.. That would be... Um... A werewolf! Yeah. I had to take it down with my pentacle. It was a loup-garou, a special kind of werewolf that can only be killed by silver. Inherited silver at that.
-Harry holds out his necklace-
It belonged to my mother.
Harry's not telling the whole story, here. He did fight a werewolf, but even saying the name of the strangest thing he's ever fought might make it appear, then and there. (In case you want to know, it's an Outsider, which is basically a very, very powerful magic being that serves the Old Ones. They were locked out of reality, though, so it takes a hell of a lot of power to summon them back.) Yes this is important information that you needed to know.
