I know that this first recommendation is probably going to draw a lot of ire because it's for a Ralph Bakshi film, but American Pop is a good multi-generational drama piece. I'd also recommend Fears of the Dark or A Scanner Darkly.

Oh well, Felidae is a great film noir. I could see Watership Down and The Plague Dogs also being here, but thier more adventure/survival than Drama.

In what universe is Gargoyles dark? Yes, it was better written and more serious than other Disney shows, but still a Saturday Morning Cartoon for kids.
