Post-Apocalyptic Dystopian Fantasy novel could use some troper love

I am an author and I am pushing my own book.

Now that that's out of the way, a little explanation. Hello. Over the last half-year or so I've been exploring the exciting world of indie authordom. Some of my books have found success (by which I mean an audience), others have not. One of the books that hasn't is Resonance: Birds Of Passage. This does not surprise me. It's my 'cultiest' book (also my slashiest) and I always felt that it would never be as popular as some of my other series. While it has inspired quite a bit of devotion from those who HAVE found it, I could count those people on one hand. Basically, I love this story and want other people to love it too, and so I'm searching for ways to get this plucky little book together with people who might enjoy it.

So then, in a listy sort of way, Birds Of Passage is about:

-A mysterious older gentleman on a quest for sanctuary, sanctuary that is necessary because: -Young people all over the world are developing strange powers (elemental control, healing abilities, emotional manipulation and so forth) and naturally this puts them in danger because: -The world is a post-apocalyptic fantasy dystopia where diversity is far from celebrated and suddenly developing powers isn't going to win you any friends.

It's both trope and character heavy, the powers are fairly low-level and 'realistic' (for, y'know, superpowers), and although it's not for everyone those who it IS for tend to love it.

So. Here's the deal. If you've got a Kindle or something that can read Kindle e-books, and if you think the story sounds interesting, I'll give it to you. No expectations, no pressure, but if you read the book and perhaps even enjoy it, and if you have the inclination to add a trope or two to the page or maybe mention the book's existence to a friend, then that would be splendid.

Here's the book's Amazon page if you'd like to check out the sample and maybe read some reviews (other people do a much better job of talking up my books than I ever could):

http://www.amazon.com/Resonance-Book-One-Passage-ebook/dp/B004NNUZQO/

And my email address is theauthorperson@cloverisland.co.nz if you'd like to take me up on the offer of a free copy. I can gift it to you through Amazon or just send you the .mobi file.

Finally, the book's self-consciously author-created page is here: Resonance Book One: Birds Of Passage

In closing, I thank you for your time, welcome any questions, and hope I haven't been too much of a nuisance.

Ben

Several things, all of them house keeping related.

1) I've taken the liberty of moving the page to the proper Name Space (literature in this case). The page can now be linked with the code Literature/BirdsOfPassage which will display as Birds Of Passage.

1a) It was pointed out to me by someone else that the full title is Resonance Book One: Birds of Passage, is that correct? If so, we should probably move it to Resonance Book One: Birds Of Passage and use the custom titler to add in the proper punctuation/capitalization.

2) The article, as written, is currently a stub by our definition. You mentioned that the story is trope heavy, and we'd appreciate if you could add a minimum of 3 trope examples to the page for us.

3) I have taken the liberty of adding it to the Fantasy Literature index under its current title. If the title is changed per 1a, that page will need to be fixed.

Fight smart, not fair.

All right, looks like I've got homework to do :) Cheers for all this, I'll follow your suggestions right now.

If I see it in a shop, I might pick it up. I do have a bit of backlog right now, though, and post-apocalyptic dystopian stuff has never really been my thing.

Manga Maniac, it's unlikely you'll see it in a shop as it's predominantly e-published (even for my best selling (and I do use the term loosely) titles the ratio of e-book to print sales is like 100:1). Also I may be misrepresenting it by labelling it 'dystopia' and 'post-apocalyptic', it's just a hard book to classify and that's the best I've come up with so far. "Dark and gritty fantasy ensemble thing" was what I used until I was told off for being unprofessional. One kind person called it a cross between Avatar:TLA and Dragonlance, although they qualified that with "But not as good as either" :)

Do Kindle books require any special downloadable stuff to run?

If you don't have an actual Kindle you can grab a Kindle reader app from here:

(Excuse the shortened link, Amazon does add some rubbish to its pages. The original link is ridiculously long.)

Mac, PC, iPhone, Android and so forth are all supported. There's also a cloud reader that works rather well:
