I have new respect for all the trouble the guy that made Ruby Destiny went to just for all that tile editing.
It's a shame the game was crap and the overworld map was completely incomprehensible.

99% of the character progression in this game is ranking your skills
every level earns you a certain amount of skill points
every week your character ages a year, which also grants skill points
but after a certain age the diminishing returns get re-donkulous and your progression slows to a crawl
past age 20 you have the option of rebirthing your character, which resets that character back to level one
BUT
you keep all your skill ranks and the progression therein
Star citizen has the best system.
No tiers or points or microtransaction items.
Just pure skill and in-game upgrades you have to earn.

it's highly skill, timing, and focus-based, and the AI for enemies is all different and surprisingly devious
FOR EXAMPLE
smash is a skill that adds a fuckton of damage to your next attack, and you can still run while it's loaded up
defense is a skill that basically reduces the damage from an attack to nothing, but you cannot run while it's loaded up, and smash breaks through it
however, enemy smash attacks have greater priority over your smash attacks
so some enemies will load up smash, but walk, to try and trick you into thinking they have defense loaded so you rush them with a smash
