They're trying to pass that bill in Kansas.

It'll be legal since they're basing it on grounds of religious tolerance, and they have the right to believe you're going to burn in Hell and refuse you service because of it protected in the First Amendment under the right of freedom of religion.

Really hoping Texas doesn't follow suit. Our governor would certainly like to. Such bullshit, man...

Oh excuse me. The govt is discussing it.

They are discussing whether or not to pass a bill that will make it a ok for employers to fire homosexuals or not give them jobs.

That's un-American because it restricts the right of people to express their religion in the Senate. So they're just treated that as a suggestion now.

They already open every Senate meeting with the Lord's Prayer or something and have for hundreds of years.

I think it already passed in the Senate, and is being discussed in the House? Or maybe vice versa.

It'll pass, and I won't be the least bit surprised.

Have to go soon.

Oh yeah it did.

Its a state thing I think. Not a nationwide thing.

Yeah, but vetos can be overridden with a 3/4 vote from the House and a 2/3 vote from the Senate. Or something like that.

That's how the Civil Rights Act also got passed, if I recall correctly. Ironic, no?

It's being presented because it claims hiring homosexuals is discrimination against Christians to begin with, and forcing them to hire them is suppressing their religious rights.

All these are state-level pushes - no way any federal-level politician is going to even try to do this because the national backlash would ruin both themselves and their party.

Then again, Oklahoma already has a law on the books that prohibits the implementation of sharia law even though legally this is meaningless.

Presidential vetoes require a 2/3 majority in both the House and Senate to override. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 did not need this - LBJ signed it into law. The last major law I remember being made over a Presidential veto was the War Powers Act following Vietnam.
