Well- I'm not sure on the exact dates for you in the states, but the trade itself was abolished in 1807 over here, and then we freed all slaves in 1833 (Because those chaps in the West Indies decided to get their slaves illegitimately, from other countries, or just encouraged breeding).
So- I don't know. It's shocking to think that the two great things that delayed the abolition was A) Money and B) Hating The French.

Racist in the way that they thought only them (the White British) could bring their freedom.
Some saw them as equal though, thankfully. Much like how History has a lot of vile persons, it has a lot of good people too.
Or even just people with the right intention, but misguided reasons.
