Norm's offline
which is why i posted this here
everyone i have sent this to goes offline immediately after
and that is why i suspect, to some extent, that maybe they are getting tired of me bombarding them with PMs constantly for flavour text that probably won't ever be relevant to anything anyway
it's like when Prom sends me his novel WIPs and forgets that he's sent me this one three times already but he's really enthusiastic about it so I read it a fourth time anyway
@Trip: It does. That's the plot of the game (at first), which is why Cloud and company start blowing up reactors, because at the rate it was going everyone was gonna die.
This is what the areas around the reactors look like.
◊ Keep in mind this is from the shitty movie (couldn't find a good picture from the game proper), so this is two years after all mako reactors have been shut down. This is a huge improvement. There's dead grass and everything, and the sky's way less choked with perpetual night-causing smog than it used to be.

Most of that's canon. The bit with the mako is speculation, but I think it's pretty well-supported speculation.

If anything the EU reduces Jenova's role to a much shittier Symbiote from Spiderman — it's Super Juices What Make You Sick Sometimes. Which is dumb. OG canon leaves some stuff vague but at the very least gives us enough breadcrumbs to piece together what Jenova's deal is.
You ever seen John Carpenter's The Thing? Jenova's basically that crossed with Lovecraft — scary space monster that's been consuming civilisations across the universe since the dawn of creation that is equal parts character and unknowable force of nature.
Except now she's just Eeevil Super Power Shots and if you have a pure heart or whatever you won't be affected because of reasons
god i fucking hate the compilation

Sorry about that Squid. Rest assured I read all of that. I just didn't have much to respond with, is all.
My main thought was "Reunion is totally Convergence" and that "Dead Space ripped off FFVII" until I realized it was more "Dead Space and FFVII ripped off the same thing, which was The Thing".
"Shake the dust." - Anis MojganiEspecially considering the question posed in The Thing's tagline — "If I was an imitation, a perfect imitation, how would you know if it was really me?" Jenova is that concept with a more psychological spin on it. It's kind of meant to make you wonder how much of anything is actually Cloud's and Sephiroth's own free will and how much is just the virus, and whether or not there's a difference.

Science.
Also they never mention it but it's presumed it was President Shinra's grandfather or something, since the technology has been around.
Professors Gast and Hojo were the ones who came up with the idea to use this weird alien ice mummy they found to make supersoldiers, but Hojo was the one that ultimately carried it out when Gast got cold feet due to emotional attachment to the research subjects since he knocked one up. (which resulted in Aeris. Dads in VII are assholes as a general rule)
Hell naw Reunion is wholly VII. The Thing presents an opposite approach — every part of it is independent and will sell out other bits of itself to preserve itself. Hence the hot wire test scene
so yeah i'm saying Dead Space totally ripped off VII
But at least the first game was good
until it got dumb

You're not entirely wrong, I suppose.
That lady was presumably the last thing she "ate" before she went into hibernation. It mimicked her, but not quite correctly. Hence all the parts in places where parts ought not to be.
Cloud's better at it. Because he had more time and better personal reference to finish his people suit, but still.
But even he didn't quite get it perfect.

No, but I'm familiar with it. Kinda, anyway.
There is totally Jenova canon also you just have to remember all the technobabble they throw at you once and then don't really focus on much after that.
