I don't really intend to play Undertale either, because the gameplay just doesn't seem like it'd be my cup of tea.

If I'm not just passively not interested in something.

And then that thing gets extraordinarily popular and people talk about it all the time.

For me, at least, the default reaction is annoyance because I don't really care about it.

And then it just gets worse as time goes on.

if a lot of people like it well there must be SOME reason why

@olive; actual reason. not everyone likes Earthbound or bullet hell

I don't see why people hate FNAF so much, either. It's not like it's an awful broken game or anything and Scott Whatshisface seems like a nice guy.

naruto has good fight scenes and compelling characters

ignoring the story for a second

fnaf has a very interesting way of telling story and has an incredible sense of atmosphere

popularity is SOME sense of quality not the main reason

"go play it" is a stupid reason to play it but "it's popular" is the worst reason not to

This is my punishment for killing all those people, isn't it?

Also yeah, Hype Aversion is a real thing. Its one of those silly meatbag emotions that has no rhyme or reason behind it.

I'd reccommend you just give it a try. Pretty sure there's a free demo out there.

I make a general rule of never hating anything because of its fanbase.

It's how I've remained so fond and invested in Homestuck all these years.

What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything?

But like.

I really have zero interest in it. It just isn't the kind of game I like.

To be fair there aren't many games I like at all, mostly because I'm not a gamer but whatever.

And telling me that I just need to go and try it/play the demo/whatever is just kind of.

Aggravating.

Norm you are far more optimistic than I am

Homestuck lost me a long time ago and it was largely thanks to Hussie blowing his load way too early on Cascade. Now he's just kinda humping his way through the story out of obligation until he's allowed to stop.

[up]that is an actual reason to not play it though

we're saying "it's too popular" isn't

well that's what i'm saying anyway

I'm still reading it, also out of obligation.

There's no tension anymore. Everyone's just kind of there and anything that might have actually been of interest to us happened offscreen.

Well I mean.

For my part I never said it being popular was why I was staying away.

I think we were probably just talking right past each other.

I'll admit that Act 6 felt like it had a lot less of the spark the previous arcs had, and that these recent updates reek of "Oh wait, I've got an even better idea, you'll love it, I'm sorry about the money the game is coming please don't go I'm in over my head."

But it still makes me laugh and think and that's all I've ever really needed.

I cared about what happened with Jack Noir. We were super invested in that shit because the plot spent five acts building him up and working him into everything that was happening and making the conflict with him very personal.

In contrast, I barely even remember Caliborn/English exists half the time, and the final confrontation with him seems thrown together at the last minute, and not in a good way.

Shit, even the stuff in [S] GAME OVER wasn't him, it was the Condesce. And then it never happened anyway.

Also I've stopped laughing because I'm a curmudgeon and it's increasingly harder and harder for me to care about these people

Reminding me that I fell off the homestuck wagon in the middle of act 3 and never picked it back up.

And keep thinking to myself.

"I need to get back on it."

And then I never do.

Act 3 is where it really starts picking up steam, it's a shame you dropped when you did. Oh well.

Hey that reminds me

Actually the biggest obstacle is that I no longer have the place where I left off saved.

And thus I'd have to hunt and comb for it which is probably impossible.

And I don't want to do that.
