i kinda like it
then again i know absolutely jack shit about FF 7 so
I live in a constant state of fear and misery.the one thing they nailed was that it looks very nice and Midgar looks adequately Midgar-y
by "edgy" i meant how they're emphasising Cloud's "Not interested" line. I'm worried they're gonna play the hell out of it and that will be his One Trait.
dammit i said i was gonna calm down
fuck this shit
because there's monsters and shit everywhere why the fuck do you need an explanation

I know, but it still looks so, sorry for repeating this, edgy it's funny. Also I didn't see much rain in the old FF 7 from what I saw.
And I love how they're trying to make Barret look all cool and shit, but I can't take it seriously.
Same goes for Cloud.

LOVE IS STORED IN THE AXOLOTL!i think the trailer looks ok honestly
didn't seem edgy, just seemed like a final fantasy game
i mean compared to the 13 series where Hope exists and where one of the villains spends most of the game angsting about his dead girlfriend he couldn't save in some bullshit time travel plot and he wants to destroy time and space because he's so sad guys, i don't see what the remake could offer that could top how ridiculously melodramatic those games were
i get that some people won't like the changes to the battle system but i honestly don't think the old ATB style has aged well at all
so in conclusion
i dunno mang

I disagree that fantasy can't be "realistic", but as it's often used around fiction that word is so ill-defined as to have zero meaning anyway
Anyway, I watched the trailer
I like the Midgar feel. There's an understandable backlash toward "edge" but like with anything that gets a backlash, the things that sometimes seem symptomatic of it can have a reason. And if any city needs to look gritty, dull, natureless and dark, it's Midgar.
People said that remaking FF 7 would take about the same effort as building a new game from the ground up. So I guess they did. I'll hold off until I see more of the actual gameplay (some people claim they actually saw an ATB bar) but yeah, changing it is an understandable decision to make. Even if it is based on wrong opinions of turn based combat being necessarily bad.
They don't seem to be changing lines at least... but that raises another question: Surely they'll be redoing the translation, won't they?
Barret looks like he's channelling that... Tekken character I can't remember the name of? I'd prefer him without the sunglasses, he does feel like he's trying a bit too hard to be cool. His voice feels too subdued as well. Barret is a loud man. That's far from his only character trait, but "cool" and level headed he very rarely is.
I don't think the jitter cam effect is necessarily bad, if they keep it sparing. After all, the original game had "tells" too, like the fade in red. Of course, they were actually used sparingy and when it would have been bleeding obvious anyway.
I don't think the game is going to be awful from what I've seen so far. But I still have seen very little.
So I'll still reserve ultimate judgement I guess.
@Squid: That is perhaps a good idea.
