Lucas went on record saying he disliked the concept of cortosis or any kind of physical material that could withstand a lightsaber.
It's why the Deathwatch Commander in the Clone Wars wields an ancient black Sith lightsaber instead of a vibroblade.
Also, I remember seeing a post somewhere that made a convincing argument for why lightsabers without crossguards are liabilities, and showed a frame by frame of Luke losing his hand due to having no protection when Vader locked blades and dragged his blade down onto his wrist.

What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything?Mine was the teletubbies, so not far off.
What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything?I remember the sun being a mere infant, looking over its domain and finding delight in the misfortune of the tragic human/tv hybrids that tried all they could to eke out a mundane life. All they want is some fucking toast for breakfast, but fate makes it an enormous ordeal. What cruel god is responsible for such a travesty?
What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything? Its not Cortosis its a mix of metals made with Sith Magic essentially but that's honestly besides the point.
The only reason the cross gaurd lightsaber is there is to look cool and not make sense. Even with a normal sword using two seperate blades as a cross gaurd is a bad idea because the point of a sword is maneuverability, having to worry about another blade pointing towards you, and potentially cutting your wrist or getting pushed into your chest is not great.
Especially when it comes to Lightsaber combat. You can cut in any direction and the Jedi fighting styles take advantage of that. A cross gaurd made out of anything honestly is just going to limit the maneuverability of your lightsaber, by making prongs that are likely to stick out and hit your wrist. Except here its likely to cut your hand off.
TL;DR My opinion is better than yours, so

Don't push me, I'll fucking go there.

What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything?I think the EU has over-estimated just how practical it is to use the force in the middle of a duel.
In the movies, the Jedi rarely get a chance to use the powers at all, and it always takes a great deal of concentration that a duel rarely provides. Otherwise, the movies would look more like The Force Unleashed.
What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything?Well yeah, Lightsabers are a Jedi's last resort but fighting someone with force powers with your own force powers often leads to your opponent countering it with their own, unless you're just so much better than them at it.
Also don't know about the EU but has happened in Canon.

Darth Vader's armor is made out of it.
There's a scene where Luke gets a hit on him and it bounces off.
If you were DEDICATED you'd know this.
