AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH I ACCIDENTALLY REFRESHED THE POST PAGE
HARUMPH TIME TO REMEMBER WHAT I SAID
KUUGA WAS BREDDY GOOD
IT FELT LIKE IT PLAYED AROUND WITH ASPECTS OF ITS GENRE, BUT STILL FELT LIKE A STRAIGHTFORWARD SUPER SENTAI IN RETROSPECT
I LOVED HOW THE SUPPORTING CAST REALLY HELPED AND FELT IMPORTANT AND ACTUALLY SUPPORTED GODAI INSTEAD OF BEING BARELY THERE (MIKA AND CHONOU ASIDE, BUT THAT'S ACCEPTABLE BECAUSE ONE OF THEM WAS A KID STUDENT AND THE OTHER WAS SOME MOSTLY UNRELATED DUDE)
I ESPECIALLY LOVED HOW GODAI RUBBED OFF ON EVERYONE, AND IT HONESTLY MADE ME SMILE WHENEVER THEY USED HIS THUMBS UP
PERSONAL FAVORITE THUMBS UP: TELLING A BOARD OF POLICE OFFICERS, IN THE FACE OF DANGER, THAT EVERYTHING WILL BE OKAY WITH THE SAME BRAND OF OPTIMISM HE ALWAYS GIVES
I'M A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED IN MYSELF THAT I DIDN'T IMMEDIATELY CATCH HOW GODAI WAS SMILING LESS AND LESS WHEN PEOPLE WEREN'T WATCHING HIM, AND THAT I DIDN'T ACTUALLY PICK IT UP WHEN SAKURAKO POINTED IT OUT
THAT SCENE WHERE HE LOOKS AT A MEMORIAL IN THE BUILDUP TOWARDS THE FINAL BATTLE MADE ME REALLY SAD
NOW AS FOR THE ENDING
it felt really
anticlimactic
i was a little disappointed there wasn't a big giant battle that really tested their mettle, and that kuuga's ultimate form barely stays on screen to show anything else other than its monstrous strength
but that last bit ties into how kuuga the show works thematically
like i said, it plays around with the aspects of its genre (re: explosions actually being significant, police helping and actually being useful, gaining power is really scary) and what's considered normal
and a normal final battle is what i described
and if we got a flashy final battle, yeah that would've been cool, but what they opted for sits well with me
because they keep saying kuuga's going to be this beast with monstrous strength that ushers in an era of violence
and you see what kind of strength kuuga has in the end demonstrated on daguva, the only other person who rivals his strength
they're both beating each other to bloody pulps through their rubber suits to outmonster each other, and once the belts are down, yusuke's obviously real distressed through their whole fistfight
fighting The Ultimate Evil is distressing enough, but getting carried away with it is what he worried about the most
and instead of some flashy bang boom explosion that could've nuked the mountain, daguva just goes down mercilessly beaten down like a monster
that was kinda chilling and that's why i'm not too bugged about that final fight
or something, i think i might've gone off track there because i baleeted everything that was written more succinctly
tl;dr: disappointed it wasn't a big fight, but i still like it because it fits in thematically
THE ENDING was a nice sendoff to the cast in my opinion and it felt like a breddy solid closer to kuuga's story
i'm sad it seems to be the only one without a movie though

mario is red, i am green, i try my best, but everyone's meanI SEE THANK YOU
Yeah, the final fight is controversial for the reasons you have mentioned
Some people really don't like how it is basically just a slugging match without any flashy explosions
But I agree that thematically it makes a lot more sense that way
Like, it was implied in both the show and tie in material that if Kuuga and Daguva did go all nuclear on each other, Bad Things for mankind would happen
I think the less smiles is subtle enough that you don't necessarily pick up on it at first, so that's fine
I agree with your assessments overall
Kuuga was a very good series to lead the revival with
Regarding movies, Toei is... odd with them in some respects, so yeah, don't feel too bad about it
I also hear you have started counting the medals
COUNT THE MEDALS ONE TWO- AND THREE
i gotta say, ooo is a big change coming out of kuuga
it's way more lighthearted in tone and bouncy and i dig it
it's a lot more friendly to get into in comparison to the gradual warmup i had to kuuga
there's an rp post inbound now that i've touched base with the duffster

mario is red, i am green, i try my best, but everyone's meanyah, OOO and Neo-Heisei in general tends to be a lot more lighthearted
For me, what really sold me on OOO was the cast
I just
you have eiji and ankh and cake boss and [you haven't met many people yet] and they're all just so likeable
by the looks of things you're only on episode 1, right?
But yeah, bouncy is a good way to describe it
i have gotten to 7 now
haven't watched it yet because i have an sns to finish but that's on my priority list
yes on the characters
those guys just immediately clicked for me
these are guys i am so very much going to enjoy
cake boss' obsession with baking is really hilarious
especially how he knew ankh would go down 60% in the end
mario is red, i am green, i try my best, but everyone's meanOh yeah, one major change you might notice as well is that Neo-Heisei is in general a lot more episodic than old heisei. You'll recognise the patterns soon enough
Strictly speaking, W is usually considered to be a better entry point for Neo-Heisei, seeing as how it is the first real Neo-heisei series and is apparently pretty great
But I haven't watched W, and I have watched OOO
And from what I know about your taste, I do think you will enjoy OOO a fair bit
if the main character's motto is "So long as you have some money and the underwear you'll wear tomorrow, you'll get by just fine" (or something like that i can't remember exactly) i'll love him immediately
i dunno if that gets translated differently
i was about to download over-time's subs but... the download crashed
it's working now, though, so maybe i can use those instead of... "ozc-live"
in retrospect i'll just put it on overnight that's gonna take forever

@RP end post: Well, I enjoyed the ride while it lasted.
Thank you, Duffy and Riv for your G Mship.
Abbott never did anything against democracy though
he was an awful pm but not anything constitutionally illegal
his ghost haunting is a pretty accurate description of what he's doing in real life now though

OH YEAH RIV
So I hear you finished Kuuga
What did you think of it's ending/final fight/the show overall
