"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."The fighting was American (mainly - wiki states a good chunk of the soldiers enlisted were Irish and German with around another 60,000+ from the UK and Canada and smaller numbers from France, Scandinavia, Hungary, Mexico, and even East Asia; the Union had by far the larger chunk.)
A bigger reason Britain and the rest of Europe largely stayed out was because while the South grew cotton, the North had corn (and there were, from the South's perspective, very untimely crop failures in 1860-62, which made trade with the North much more critical). Also, the Union made it clear any move to recognize the Confederacy would mean war - for Britain, that would almost certainly mean losing Canada.
The damned queen and the relentless knight.Canada didn't have any where near even just the Union's manpower or (more importantly by my judgement) industrial capability. Also, Britain's strength was in its navy, which isn't much help when the enemy only needs to defend a river crossing.
Amusingly enough, in the 1930's there was a Canadian Defense Scheme No. 1 and a US War Plan Red which dealt with a hypothetical US-Canadian war. Canada's plan was to aggressively (at that time they would be outnumbered roughly 10 to 1) counter attack in Washington State, Minnesota, New York State, and I think Maine long enough to destroy bridgeheads before retreating back and hold out long enough for reinforcements from the UK...reinforcements which would never come because the Royal Navy at that time concluded that it would be pointless to try to defend Canada.
The damned queen and the relentless knight. These jerks.
They are literally worse than Nazis. In both meanings of the term - the storyline has a Draka-Nazi war where the Nazis become the (relative) good guys because they are not as bad as the Draka.

The POD is the Americans winning the 1775 campaign in Canada coupled with the Dutch losing the nascent Cape Colony to the British, which meant all those United Empire Loyalists which historically moved from the United States to Ontario and New Brunswick instead move to present day South Africa, along with their slaves.
