See thing is a truly good story shouldn't need a gimmick, especially one that dates it as bad as Shakespear's language, which he used mostly to sneak in stuff like dirty jokes. On top of that Shakespear's just...boring.
The reason he's revered is because he was the first to do a lot of stuff.

What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything? It's not a gimmick. It's a convention of the medium he used. If those are gimmicks then literally every form of media ever is gimmicky.
And it's not as if his language is impenetrable. Yeah, it's stiff by our standards, but you can read it if you try. It's dated language, but the subjects of the plays themselves aren't so bizarre that we can't understand them.
Shakespeare also wasn't terribly original, either. He pretty much never made anything on his own, instead taking popular histories and stories and dramatizing them up. He wasn't the first to do much of anything.
He's famous because his works are actually deep, insightful, and thought-provoking. Of course, yes, there are dick jokes in there, but it just means you have to analyze it a little more vigorously to suss out the nuance.
In the end, if you don't like it, that's your prerogative, but that doesn't make them bad or unimportant.

What Ram said. You don't have to like the Bard, but he practically invented Modern English
@Norm: I think so, very sorry to keep you waiting.
I know I say this all the effing time, but this time I mean it. I didn't get a great night's sleep last night and am probably going to fall asleep early. I'll try to start the FGing soon so we can get some things in, but please pardon any suckage because my head is steadily feeling more and more strange.
make it through this year if it kills you yet | 2001-2019I don't really have a problem with adapting the language of a story into something more modern if its written in a way that is notably different/possibly confusing to people today. You lose some nuances in the writing when you do this, but it makes it much easier to understand for some people. Besides, the original work and its adaptations are always going to exist.
...Basically what I'm saying is we should make all classical plays to be ridiculously hip. Have Romeo and Juliet talk about the dankest new meme that appeared on Reddit while a bard plays some dubstep in the background. Maybe have them angst about how shitty their lives are on their Facebook walls, too.

mario is red, i am green, i try my best, but everyone's mean

if it was then
a) it was an incredibly jarring shift in tone
b) it goes against the original play
