From what I understand.
All of these people from disparate places are thrust into a strange world all of a sudden.
Sometimes they've got their homes with them.
As in their home or whatever went with them and is part of this strange world.
And then all of the people have to coexist or beat each other's brains out or whatever.

@Eldy: Basically it's kinda like Risk or something if it was a crossover RP. Some cosmic dickhole has taken chunks of land with people who live on them and is gonna make them fight and do challenges and stuff with the promise of them going home or some shit.
You can now also bring in a group of people without a "chunk" if you feel it would be too much for you to handle. It's ideal for getting to play several people from a given series at once and still getting in your crossover jollies.
Dammit, ninja'd.

make it through this year if it kills you yet | 2001-2019i mean were i to do so i am torn
i do love my russian indie games
so that presents pathologic's town vs. the void
or were i to jump facefirst into orwell, airstrip one
the idea of the void is tantalizingly strange to me, but pathologic's town is nice and weird and already an organized structure
and then, as i look to the rp's signup, it asks for a main character, which is hard to pick out in those settings
They're art.
This isn't some faux-pretentious bullshit on my part. They're really artful, wonderful games.
They combine gameplay with story so they're not mind numbing, Dear Esther-esque walking simulators, they allow you to make your own conclusions, and they alway have something to say.
Pathologic is a genius game in a complicated setting with an interesting, diverse, unique cast of liars, schemers, and various unscrupulous individuals, where you are forced to play in a very difficult game, in a bleak God damn tone.
The Void is just fucking beautiful in its designs. All the Brothers look cool as shit, the landscapes are really pretty, even when they're desolate. The music, sound design, story, all that, it's really good. And even if you acknowledge the whole naked woman thing, it's not presented in a sexist manner, as you spend like a good half of the game looking at a ghost penis. It's a feminist story, where you have to free these women from the oppression of tyrannical, masculine, vaguely religious-fanatics. And then the game can make you sympathize with some of the Brothers as well, make you feel guilty for fighting them.
Honestly, I really love Ice-Pick Lodger because they make very good games, not to feed my already massively bloated ego.
The only time I've had enough free time to actually start joining other RPs was back during the whole Rambob fiasco, and at the peak of it as well, when not only fights were breaking out every other day, but we started getting a lot of shit players to constantly deal with as well (Valerian being the most notable of these but not the first and not the last). I was doing it to get away from the garbage in this thread because being here was stressful and awful, but that wound up spilling over into every other thread I joined as well. Most people were polite about it but I honestly suspect it was annoying as hell for them. In addition to this, it had been a long, long while since I had used the prose format, and because everyone else's posts were so much longer than my own I wound up just padding my own out for the sake of length so it wouldn't look so skimpy next to everyone else's, to the point where every single thing I wrote was obnoxiously heavy-handed and redundant in its own bloated, repetitive word count.
I'm fairly certain everyone else in the "real" RP threads are thoroughly sick of both me and Cloud and anything to do with anything I wrote.
It's part of why I still haven't rejoined AGOG, let alone anything else.
Well that and the fact that I don't have time and also they're still on that lizardfolk arc.

They've mentioned me in passing. I doubt I would be welcome in a lot of these threads.
Honestly if you think about it we're not much better than whatever the hell happened to the Arena. It was a forum game that got hijacked by a bunch of noobs and mutated into an RP. We've just been around longer so we've had more time to stop being dipshits about it (I hope).

inb4 "battleworld needs to get out of our thread"
the inevitability is painful
