More things, full spoilers, space/fox still please be here and read this:
I was surprised by how interesting I found assassin overall. That one thing in the last episodes about how he is a fictional hero made him shoot up in my interest exponentially, I really wish they actually explored that rather than just throwing it in. This ties back to the whole thing I've talked about where fate is mythology-themed rather than exploring mythology
archer and shirou were executed well overall. Initially I was annoyed by the fact that Shirou was doing a pretty poor job defending his ideals, especially so due to certain reasons but he finally pulled through with the brilliant stuff like "so what if it's a fake, so what if I based them on someone else, that doesn't make it worthless". I was fully ready to call bullshit on the archer arrows appearing out of nowhere and then my friend pointed out what archer's role as a counter guardian was again and I was actually gobsmacked by how well that worked and loved it
also ubw shirou led a happy and fulfilling life and never became as bitter as archer and you cannot convince me otherwise shut up
Lancer was a bro, even if he did vanish for most of the plot. Being lancer is suffering indeed. When he punched Shinji, my friend and I just looked at each other, grinning like fucking nothing in the world, and immediately watched it again.
Shinji was a shit, and while I think it was thematically appropriate that they went out of their way to save him, knowing what I do, I hated that Sakura's nursing him back to health, rather than staying the fuck away from him
rin was surprisingly alright, from her reputation as One Of The Ur Tsundere's I was expecting to hate her, but barring a few "bakabakabakas" she was pretty good and likeable. It really helps that Shirou actually gave it back a few times (like when he just closed the door in Rin's face, my friend and I lost it at that point), making it seem more equal, and more actually friendly than it could have been. That and of course she actually has a personality beyond "tsundere" so it works
related to the above, this may be because it was an adaptation of rin's route, but tbh rin looks like the best romantic partner for shirou. Saber seems more like a friend, and Sakura more like a sister, plus her lacking presence in general and it looking like it wouldn't really be an equal relationship
Now. Gilgamesh. I spent the majority of the story just waiting for him to show up and then he did and it was great and then That Episode happened and I was ready for him to get his shit wrecked. Then he shoved her heart into Shinji and went back to his smug old self while killing less children and he was entertaining to watch again, without losing the fact that I wanted Shirou to push his shit in
Ilya and Bahsahka: That one episode was cool and made me emotionally invested enough that it was painful watching them get their shit wrecked, but they did kind of vanish for most of the series. Kind of wish that one scene earlier in the series wasn't there though.
Caster's master I felt had potential but the execution felt a bit weird. Caster was a threatening villain, and had her shit together really well, but I feel like they misstepped a bit with the progression from tragic backstory to "I'm okay with committing mass murder on my own behest now"
overall, not one of the best things I've ever watched, but still solidly enjoyable
in the vn he was just mentioned in a one-off line like "oh he was a shithead so i killed him"
i have not seen him in the anime but probably it's to show how much of a shithead he was
i know in the like one time where caster does an internal narration she's like "i can't believe i am actually doing this, holy shit?" but she goes on to protect her dream/help it see reality/what have you (i forget the exact wording)
UN JOUR JE SERAI DE RETOUR PRÈS DE TOIOHHH
ooh
he saved her life and she slowly super fell head over heels for him because he showed her kindness and got wrapped up in the holy grail war for someone he has only just met
by the end of it she had already gotten her wish, 'cause it was to be with him
he is actually one of the best chars in the vn i think but again i havenot actually seen the anime so i am not sure how they did on that front
UN JOUR JE SERAI DE RETOUR PRÈS DE TOIthey explained all that, but I found that in terms of the teacher's own motivations it was executed unconvincingly
that and I did not really think it made that much sense re: caster's portrayal in her doing all of those horrible things despite her leaving another master because he did horrible things, and her wish being fulfilled because she's with teach anyway, and teach not telling her to do any of those things
I get that she just wants to go home, but the show didn;t sell her to me as a tragic figure like it tried to, it felt a bit inconsistent

yeah well I get the feeling I'd probably like the vn better, if only because adaptations are rarely better, and stuff might have been explained better, even ignoring Weird VN Prose and junk
but it sort of just happened like this:
Friend who I recommended Fate/Zero to: Hey look at this funny facebook picture I do not know what it is referring to
They made a series of it just recently
And then somehow we both decided to marathon the whole thing
Spaz, if you abort another Cole thing in the FG I swear to God.
What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything? His dialogue is haaaaaaaaaard. I don't know whether or not to have him do his thing or to just ramble about irrelevant shit.
I have no plan for Charity - mould her as you will.
What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything?I have a whole backstory for people to discover whenever they want.
I can tell you details if you have questions.
