"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."I was gonna do my usual thing where I make sarcastic comments, but this fight went badly for a number of reasons.
Namely that
◊ his Skarmory
◊ (which I've always one-shotted in the past with my Blaziken) is in fact an entry-hazard setter-upper. Steven is meta as hell.
So that was a pain in the ass to deal with.
Things were pretty
◊ uneventful
◊ for a while and I considered just not recapping this at all.
Then Steven brought out the Metagross and things got hairy
◊ really fast.
◊
For those of you not in the know, Metagross is Steven's ace in the hole and signature monster. It's a Steel/Psychic type, meaning it only has two weaknesses — Fire, and Ground. Neither of which I have on this team. It also means it hits like a tank and can take hits like one too. It's the reason why I bothered to train all the way from level 45 to level 60, because apart from my team generally lacking defense, the entirety of it is weak to this thing. To recap:
- I have three Ice types that are easily wiped out by Meteor Mash, Metagross's signature move.
- I have an Electric type that goes down after a single Earthquake.
- I have a Steel type legendary that still goes down after a single Earthquake, since those are weak to Earthquake, too.
- And my one remaining Pokemon is Psychic type, which Metagross resists quadruply, making it impossible to get any real damage in before Jenova goes down in one hit too due to its shit defenses.
This is how close to the wire things got.
◊ I couldn't use Revives fast enough to keep up, and this is what it looked like prior to the last turn in the battle.
I should not have won this battle. There are only two reasons why I did. The first one is that in wiping out my second-to-last Pokemon, it used Hyper Beam, and you need to skip a turn to recharge after that, giving me one free turn to do something in.
The second reason is that in that single turn I scored a critical hit with Psycho Boost,
◊ which, I'll have you know, would have done a pittance normally due to it being resisted. Because Metagross.
...And that's how I won. Yaaaaay.
Everyone
◊ do
◊ the
◊ Walk
◊ of
◊ Glory!
◊
And because I completely neglected my Pokedex this time around, it had to
◊ play the same
◊ five images on repeat
◊ throughout the whole end credits sequence. Still did the bit with the Torchic anyway, though.
◊
Time to go Legendary hunting!
