Yeah, I was thinking Tolkien is a good example.
I mean- there's the infamous question of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. "Why did they not take the eagles?"
And explanations have been put forward after the question is asked. Rather than the answers being laid down, perhaps in an obscure way but if you looked closely you may have spotted them.
Though- I will say here that I'm not actually that knowledgeable about Tolkien's works.
1.5 imperial gallons of tea were consumed during the writing of this postI remember a recent thing that was-
That originally they were going to, and they were going to meet with the Eagles on the other side of the mountain in a place where Sauron couldn't see them coming.
But because the path had to be changed due to storms/armies suddenly being at other passes- they had to pass through Moria where Gandalf- who was the one communicating with the Eagles without the others knowing- of course died. Spoiler alert.
Hence the line "Fly you fools" was supposed to refer to the Eagles, yet they went on foot because they had no idea about the original meet-up spot.
And thus- walking to Mordor was a big game of improvising from a situation that was not good.
1.5 imperial gallons of tea were consumed during the writing of this post-shrug-
I'm not an expert.
For all I know the real reason is that the Eagles were just jackasses who didn't care until Gandalf practically begged them after coming back from death and they were like-
"Right, this is a laugh lads. Lets help these bitches."

I hid so many jokes and references all through the Barcelona part and I have no idea if anyone got them.
What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything?

As the creator you don't want a fog of discovery that could happen if you started on the small picture.
Because then as you progress there could be consistency errors.
Not sure how best to put it as example, but ah well.
Worldbuilding is more a hobby at the moment, though I've kind of given a lot of thought to producing a wargame of some kind.
Or some other form of RPG. And possibly novels, novellas or short-stories, I don't really know.
