Phoenix Wright is mainly done through moving sprites. It has you go from place to place and click around rooms in order to find useful items. Then has you control Phoenix's actions during the trials telling him what to say, and do, and using the items you found to your advantage. The one who plays PW is a player. Not a reader.
This kind of thing is called a Point And Click Adventure.

i have a lot of respect for thatgamecompany
they always make artistic games based around story and feelings
but they're humble enough to remember they're making fucking video games
and actually utilize the medium they're using to tell their stories
are the items you find physically needed in order to solve puzzles

I may try it, but like I said, I typically buy with length, content, and replayability in mind
But hey, Bioshock is different cause I really only replay the game because... I like it and the game is so clever in a lot of ways that I uncover more details about the story than the last time.
Ken Levine may be somewhat pretentious, but he's certainly ambitious and I wouldn't call him a horrible writer.
But hey, if Journey is like that, as in, I just replay just to get a better sense of the art and to better interpret it, then I can dig it.
War is God.PHOENIX WRIGHT IS A VISUAL NOVEL STYLE GAME WITH POINT AND CLICK GAMEPLAY ELEMENTS.
There, argument over.
What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything?Actually no, I like Infinite a good deal.
I do see its flaws.
I find that Ken bit off more than he could chew with the complications of race and social class in the game that... never really get much other than a trite look over.
Also, it's batshit that the game OUTRIGHT TELLS ME that Daisy is no different from Comstock
well EXCUSE ME, but that seems like something I interpret myself.
Plus, that's bullshit. Daisy is murderous and crazy, whereas Comstock is murderous and crazy.... and horribly bigoted.
um... something seems iffy about that
ohhh nooo the revolutionaries are pissed that they've been treated like sub-human filth for so long how dare they be angry
War is God.Also
The ending of the game
while CRAZY
actually.... kinda makes sense
kinda
I've played through it again and I notice the subtle cues
ahh... that's the sign of good storytelling, that a replay/re-read/re-watch can reveal subtleties you missed the first time.
Plus, Booker is an asshole. The game acts like he's... affable to a degree.
Um... I'm sorry, he slaughtered people at Wounded Knee. Just a brief read-over on what happened at Wounded Knee makes it highly evident that it was FUCKING INHUMAN AND DESPICABLY SADISTIC.
the game is just like
ohhh i regret what i've done oohhh brooding anti-hero noire bullshit please feed me your sympathy
Fuck you. The game acts like the selling of his daughter was his most mortal sin.
FUCK YOU.
War is God.Well whatever you want to call it. Its still a fun work that

Yes, I was just complaining about the game's half-assed "social commentary"
The infinite realities thing is...
ehh... convoluted
I don't fully get it even after my second playthrough
IDK, maybe I need to pay attention more, but it does seem needlessly complex.
Like I said before, Ken may be pretentious, but he sure is ambitious. Of course, that ambition tends to blow up in his face more often than not.
Infinite handled it in a way that's... pretty interesting
I was thinking about it for a while afterwards.

War is God.I dunno if it was half-assed.
I mean, they based a lot of the racial stuff on real rhetoric and posters and slogans and such. They did their research.
What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything?but they barely ever use any of it beyond sticking a sign in your face every once in a while
no racial slurs are uttered throughout the game, and the worst case of abuse you ever see is potentially throwing a single baseball at an interracial couple
@Prom: if you think about it enough
you realize it's kind of dumb and not very well thought-out

I dig it
I always like story in video games if it actually MELDS with gameplay instead of constant exposition and cutscenes
That's why I admire Dark Souls so much
It shows so much and tells very little
and so much is up for interpretation, like fairy tales and myths of yore
War is God.
