The most I remember is fighting a cel-shaded geometric Giant that bled money as both a first person shooter and an action platformer.

Won my first game of Civ.

The Roman Empire, after soundly sending a Spanish/French alliance packing in the Classical Era, allying staunchly with the Incans in the Medieval period, forging a rewarding partnership with the enormous Persian Empire in the Renaissance, fighting a brief but bloody war with the Celts in the first war of Industrial times and ending up in a Nuclear arms/space race with their ever-conquest hungry "ally" Persia, have finally taken to the stars to colonise space.

I also had all the votes I needed for the UN, plus only two more policies away for a cultural victory. Space travel just happened to come first.

I really only conquered places up until early medieval, taking Barcelona as a prosperous puppet state and fully annexing and Romanising Orleans, along with my four native cities. Even when taking war to the Celts and conquering Cardiff effortlessly with the efficiency of a modern military, I just gave it back on the condition that they return territory taken from the Incans.

I was actually one of the most reasonable leaders, never the aggressor in any conflict. France and Spain joined up to attack me, and paid the price. The Celts mistook my focus on scientific research for military weakness, and their outdated army crumbled. Culturally, scientifically and diplomatically I was on top of the world.

Felt nice.

Nice.

I'm in a Ethiopia one-city challenge playthrough.

Had a long war with Russia where I was fighting barely right outside the capital.

Eventually ended just in time for Greece to stab me in the back, along with India.

Ghandi was reinterpreting our friendship.

So suddenly I had to keep up a big army and I fought the Greeks at the border, with no Indians in sight until later.

And during this time, apparently, China managed to swallow up all but one of the Russian cities before peace.

They were two basically superpowers, and Russia lost probably because they sent all their army to me, and weren't able to take my one city.

Oh- and Cynicism (my religion) was able to Spread to like 36+ cities including Beijing which was the Holy City of Taoism after some Cynics were there still, but then China founded Taoism, so I sent my great prophet over to Beijing to convert all of them to Cynicism because most of the Chinese empire (because they conquered the Russian Empire basically) are cynics already.

Cynicism wiped Taoism off the map.

Imperial Cultism (my religion) never really spread beyond my borders. I just didn't feel the need to impose it and it's hard enough keeping it up in your own cities. I let Barcelona keep its local religion, because unlike Orleans it was on the other side of the continent. Besides, Romans were pretty lenient on allowing religious practices of their conquests to remain.

I love the architecture of the buildings. My skyscrapers still looked distinctly Roman-esque even as I went into the information age.

It's the little details that are awesome in civ.

But yeah I managed to improve my religion to a great extent.

And because of the one-city challenge I basically had no use for great prophets other than to spread the religion.

Cynicism spread from Ethiopia, to the whole of the Russian and Greek Empires.

To the City-state of Florence, the Dutch-owned London, France, and much of the Chinese empire.

And probably more.

Heh.

I haven't made it to the 1900's yet.

Though Greece/Alexander of Macedon (grumble grumble) was basically a Napoleon.

He was fighting so many wars with other civs, but he had a lot of city-state allies.

And if I recall, right now the big fights are happening across waters between Japan, Austria, The Netherlands, France and England.

Oh and India and Greece turned on each other. Meanwhile I'm sitting comfortably with my one city with a big army feeling glad that having a large standing army means that people don't start wars with me.

My Napoleon neighbour got his ass handed to him by me and the Celts so bad that he literally built a great wall and never troubled anyone again until his eventual destruction at the hands of Persia.

That's hilarious.

I remember that- Germany used to be a bit of a power.

They lost a war to Greece, and I remember the worst mistake I ever made diplomatically was forgetting I had a declaration of friendship with them, and I joined Greece in a war against them I think.

Inca started off a bunch of nobodies so desperate they asked for freebies from me.

Which I gave them, reasoning that nobody else would, making them desperate to keep on my good side.

We exchanged some very generous offers between one another, and I helped get their lost territories back, kept them funded, gave them resources in return for ending the wars they kept starting with Spain and before you knew it they were a respectable force in the world, and totally dedicated to me.
