Well, like a lot of bureaucratic bullshit, it's much more complicated than I said initially.
All I'm seeing from news articles is that they obtained the rights to the intellectual property and whatnot of the System Shock namesake after the original studio, Looking Glass, closed down.
Mind, I have NO fucking clue why an insurance firm of all things would want to buy the rights to a somewhat obscure series.
I mean... it didn't even sell that well when it CAME OUT. It just became a cult classic in the years to come.
Apparently the director was already considering selling the rights so long as their firm received some kind of compensation for its re-release or further iterations or whatever.
War is God.They aren't even a game company is the sad part.
But then again, the way most "game" companies are structured, the AAA ones I mean like EA and Activision, have people who are not gamers, and know nothing aout gaming beyond Co D at the top. So they might as well be a game company.

Gaming has become INCREDIBLY lucrative as of late. They're making so much money. They're making more money than most blockbuster summer releases.
Usually MUCH more.
The Call of Duty series, as you all know, has turned quite the profit.
Typically these blockbuster films also have much higher budgets in comparison. Think hundreds of millions of dollars versus MAYBE fifty million dollars (and that is a fairly liberal estimate) spent on developing yearly iterations that make a killing every damn time.
I mean... it's amazing. I'd want a slice of that pie too... provided that I was an uncaring sociopathic suit who only cared about making money hand over fist.
I highly doubt the execs in Gamestop give a crap about gaming either.
War is God.Well like...
I would say the bigger the company, the more impersonal and bureaucratic (and hence, greedy) they become.
As much money as Valve makes, they're still not as wealthy as EA. No no no no.
Mind, Valve also has a much better customer policy.
...though I fear they too are going the way of the suit as well.
I'd say the devs would care more about gaming than the publishers. Ken Levine has said repeatedly that the people he hires are all gamers and they're all passionate about making great games.
But again, I would judge a dev by their output than just what they say.
PR bullshit and whatnot.
War is God.Hey, trust me, I get the Gamestop criticism.
I do.
But they tend to offer much better pricing overall than say... Best Buy.
I often feel regret whenever I step into a Gamestop store...
...I smell the stench of avarice everywhere.
But I can't deny that they provide good deals. Where else do I buy my games? Eh?
War is God.

Wait.
Wait is that an actual insurance company.
