You jest, but last I checked, Part II ended with that heavy implication already.
Seriously, I see no reason why Abby's campaign couldn't have been its own thing separated from Ellie's.
Or...one really cool thing the NieR games have done is that after the initial playthrough, when you play the game again, you see and learn things you didn't know about on your first go while also giving you the slow realization that you might not exactly be as much of a good guy as you thought you were.
Naughty Dog could've taken a similar approach where after playing Ellie's campaign, the New Game+ shows you glimpses of the other side of the situation like in the original NieR and Automata or have you play as a sidekick that could've tagged along with Ellie only for the second playthrough to open up a whole new chapter a la Automata
With that in mind, I would have to suspect that Naughty Dog was trying to streamline that whole process by not bothering with those extra playthroughs and tried to just cram it all in the first shot, but that just makes the experience cluttered, doesn't it?

Alright so Naughtydog may not do anything new or different, just keep on milking the same cow.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Maybe Marlene was actually right that Ellie would've been better off with her brain scooped out, which are words I never thought I'd use in that order in my life.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."That article is misleading as is the description itself. To quote from the article:
Emphasis mine. He straight up says that while he hopes the plot can be used one day that they're not making a third game. Hell even when he actually does talk about a third game he says these things:
Nowhere does it say that a third game's plot is already written nor does it even promise a third game at all. We're told that they outlined a story set after Part II that Niel would like to show off eventually (But even that's stated to "explore[s] a little bit what happens after [this game]." Which doesn't even sound like they've plotted out a whole game at all.) and that they're playing around with different ideas and that they may do a Part III in the future if they feel like it's worth committing to.
That article and it's description are both misleading. Part III has not been confirmed and there is no completely written plot for it.

Oh, thank god.
Watch SymphogearWell...O.K. That turned out to be not very substantial. I guess we'll have to wait and see if one does come out later.
...Ew.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.I know y'all are stress-memeing right now but, honestly, if Last of Us 3 was all some epic adventure that ended happily, would you even want it?
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Well granted I would want them to work on something new and fun like when they made Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."All I want for the third game is for something not terrible to happen to the protagonist, whoever they happen to be.
It's been 3000 years…Part III should be criticism against crunch culture in gaming /s
Hmmm but honestly i wouldnt mind a Part III focusing on an entirely unrelated character instead of Ellie or Abby.
Uni catIts not that depressing an ending.
Ellie got 90% of Joel's killers.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Yeah... at the cost of her friends, two homes, her girlfriend and her son, and her fingers.
It's been 3000 years…In all honesty, the death that bugged me the most was Jesse. Because it just didn't have a point to it, and we don't get much of a emotional reaction to it. Has Ellie become even more enraged and grief stricken, because now Abby has taken away two loved ones from her? Nope its still just Joel that she's upset about. All the other deaths in the game seem to have some impact and trauma, but his is just.... a thing that happens
Worth it.
:)
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Gotta get that revenge.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Kinda like how at the end of Watch_Dogs Aiden says that people always say revenge feels hollow, but for him he felt friggin' great..
Sanity is the Lie, there is only Madness.Hey to quote Castlevania, “Bastards need killing”.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Which it kinda show Aiden isnt good person.
Maybe Ellie should end like that like a sort of villian protagonist, I mean, Joel was kinda verging into that and anti hero, why not Ellie?.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"I would hope the next game is her as a wandering gun slinger.
We're halfway into a Wild West apocalypse now.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I genuinely wonder if Abby could have taken Joel down in a fair fight.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).He’s an older man while Abby’s built like a brick house. So yeah, I’m thinking she’d best him in a hand-to-hand fight.
It's been 3000 years…Joel would have been a fun boss fight but golf cutscene was more dramatic i guess
Uni cat
"Lets Kill Ellie at the beginning of the game, and have it be the dead rabbit she shot with a crossbow's child taking vengeance."
