Because, hey, Canada needs some love as well.
Now, then, as a Yank to the Canadians, what has Stephen Harper done as Prime Minister, what were the top parties and how did the general election turn out this year?

BBC article on immigration cuts.
Environics Institute did a study on the cuts made to immigration. Pro-migrant advocates are also critizing Trudeau and Miller.
The cuts to immigration targets have been criticised by advocacy groups like the Migrant Rights Network, who wrote in an open letter to Trudeau and Miller that migrants are being unfairly blamed for Canada's affordability crisis.
"Migrants are not responsible for Canada’s housing crisis, lack of jobs, or inadequate healthcare or other public services," they said.
The group added that these issues are rather a result of "decades of federal and provincial policies that have underfunded and privatized public services".
I dunno, I might be repeating myself, would an equivalent to Switzerland's Lex Koller
help? It stipulates that foreigners buying real estate and need to demonstrably live in Switzerland - a bar that apparently refugees and non-wealthy immigrants can usually meet but wealthy foreigners looking for property to speculate with can't. To my understanding, wealthy foreigners using homes as speculative properties is indeed an issue in some places, and one that "Lex Koller" has warded off to some degree.
But eh. Xenophobia is the en vogue thing these years and housing shortages are more correlative to unduly long/easily obstructed building of new housing. I think it's really the first thing.

This was mentioned:

Previously, visitors to Canada could be granted multiple-entry visas for up to 10 years, which allowed them to enter and exit the country freely during that period.
Under the new rules, this will no longer be the default option. Now, visa officers will assess applicants based on an individualized basis to determine whether a single or multiple-entry visa will be issued and its validity period, the IRCC said.
Factors for issuing visas include an applicant’s purpose of visit, funds, medical conditions, ties to their home country and more.
IMHO, this rule makes sense.
So, I guess the Canadian government pre-empted me: There is a "Prohibition on the Purchase of Residential Property by Non-Canadians Act" that seems to have the same scope as the Swiss law I keep calling "Lex Koller"
(btw, Lex Koller does not require a social life. It's just that a social life is an indicator, but even introverts have places they live in [beds etc.] and that's what we look for)

Sam Cooper spoke to Bob Pickard, who used to work with the AIIB. He resigned and said that the AIIB's used by Beijing to do influence operations from behind the scenes through BRI-led projects.
According to pollster Nik Nanos, saying that the Conservatives are "Trump Lites" is not a good strategy to defeat them in the elections.
I've said it here
before, but Canadian conservatism doesn't have its roots in the same place as American conservatism. The US' comes from slavers and religious fundamentalists and so will always have that lingering aftertaste. Canada in the meantime is heavily influenced by the UK, so conservatism here is mainly monarchist (except Quebec, where it's mainly affected by our colonized past).
That said, far right ideas are making their way across the border and the current Conservative leaders do inspire themselves from Trump in rhetoric if not in platform, and they are fast growing in popularity because Trudeau is losing his.

Yeah, Polieve, Rustad and Danielle Smith (putter her first name as well because there are a lot of Smiths) are at the very least going with anti-LGBTQ rhetoric (not that Stephen Harper didn't also do these things) and in Rustad and Smith's case at least trucking in conspiracy theories. They aren't as bombastic as Trump I guess, though that leads to it's own issues, like in the US it seems like they are all following Trump, that isn't the case with Polieve, Polieve is replaceable but the far right turn might stay without him.
Mind you could argue the UK Tories are going through something similar.

From what I read through the GAC website, FM Joly asked Indian diplomats in Ottawa to temporarily lift their immunity so that the police can talk to them. They refused and chose to leave Ottawa.
