You know, for once, I don't feel like talking about what annoys me about comics. Since it's The Holiday Season, let's have a thread about Christmas Stories! :)

(Positive ones please, not stuff like 'Lobo kills Santa Claus'.)

Here's a couple from waaay back in the early Bronze Age of comics that I felt like sharing with you folks (incidentally, if I misremember some detail please correct me):

"2000 Light-Years to Christmas!" (Justice League Of America story)[1]: Three aliens flying in space near Earth crash into a satellite and drop three objects they were carrying on the planet. One is found by a evil South American dictator; another turns a deer into a giant centaur monster; and the third, a sphere with power ring-like powers, falls into the hands of a little Arab girl who has just lost her family after an attack by enemy forces.

The chaos caused by these people brings the Justice League to investigate, splitting up around the world. Most noteworthy, the heroes have to stop the little girl from killing the invading armies (but note that the League, for once, ignored international consequences and helped stop the invaders.) Only Red Tornado realizes the girl is traumatized and stops her merely by offering an honest hand in help.

In the end, the three objects are returned to the aliens who explain that they are... gifts they are bearing for a Savior being born on another world!

Oh, and the little girl? Tornado adopted her. :)

"Twas The Fright before Christmas!" (aka as Superman meets Santa Claus- [2])

While on patrol on Christmas Eve, Superman remembers a toy he had on Krypton -an image projector- that of course was destroyed along the planet. He then spots a little boy- robbing a store! He realizes the boy is under a hypnotic trance and snaps him out of it. The boy can't remember who hypnotized him, so Superman decides to take him to his Fortress Of Solitude (located near the North Pole) to use a machine to probe his memories. But on the way, a toy the boy was carrying shoots Superman with a "super-gravity" beam that knocks him out, leaving the boy to freeze to death in the Arctic!

...Except, of course, when Superman wakes up, both of them are safe inside- Santa's Workshop!! When Superman (who didn't believe in Santa Claus) asks how come he hadn't spotted the place all these years, Santa merely says it can only be found if he wishes it to. Then with the help of computers (note this was back in the 80's before the internet) that Santa's Elves use to compile the Naughty-and-Nice List, Santa finds out that it was Supes' old enemy The Toyman who set him up, and where he is located. Superman finds he can't fly as a side-effect of the beam, so Santa offers him a ride there on his sleight. He even sends some of his animated toys to help battle the Toyman's!

...But then, Superman awakens! He's still in the Artic with the kid! It was All Just a Dream! After getting the kid safe home, Superman muses on the whole thing... and finds his favorite childhood toy in his cape's pocket!! It even projects an image of Santa wishing him a Merry Christmas!

Other examples are welcome!

Marvel Team-Up#127. Seriously, how can one not be heartwarmed by that?

Marvel Holiday Special 2005. Less heartwarming, but hilarious. I especially liked the mistletoe gag, everybody hating Gravity, and the bit about Spidey not being good at pep talks: "—wait, I'm not good at speeches. CAP!...this is Captain America." "Hi."

[up]I've seen the first story, but not the second. Thanks, it was hilarious! (and moving!) grin
