Looking back on it, I am very mixed on Rucka's choice to completely remove everything that happened to Diana prior to Rebirth.
Like sure the Amazon's being rapists definitely deserved to be removed but there was some good stuff. Again the Gods were pretty interesting in both character and design then.
Plus it falls into the constant issue with Wonder Woman. Nobody keeps anything, writers keep reverting her back to 0 and the result is she doesn't have a status quo nor a consistent mythology. Which granted also happened to the writers between Azzarello and Rucka.
We now have 3 distinct characterizations for Ares, full villain, wise mentor, and tragic villain.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Okay, I'll admit, I've been taking the advice of this thread and trying to give Wonder Woman's existing material more of a chance. Less of a "throw it out", more of a "fix it" mindset. Yara Flor is something that failed to grab my interest even with the extra effort though. I think the backlash from some people actually living in the Amazon or descent there of is an opportunity for DC. There's already three Wonder girls, so they can redo Flor in a way that both establishes her own identity/legacy/what have you and is more respectful to the culture(s) she is meant to represent. Find an actual evil entity/force in the folklore, failing that Lowest Cosmic Denominator. Don't tie her to the Greek Amazons initially, let that relationship, if it must exist, develop over time on panel. Let the readers discover the first meetings, the initial milestones, setbacks, voice their opinions as events unfold.
Something else to rework is Badra. In concept, an entitled, super powered, alien raised in the arts of larceny and stealth, who has been in "man's world" longer than Wonder Woman has, but has been lying low slowly amassing power and wealth, seems to write itself. The biggest problem with it is her name. My proposal would make "Badra" the name of her domain, and part of her official royal title, like Princess Arche Thekatria Kratia of Badra, heir apparent to Queen Stratio Thotheka Wickedra of Arkho. Her supervillain identity/appellation would be The Meteor Girl or Meteor Woman. Secondly, there would be cause for her/Hatorian super powers. Not necessarily explanation, but theme, nature, mechanism. Maybe make it like Superman's from the technicolor cartoon, since she was DC's evil Superman(and I find the "yellow sun" thing too stupid), maybe tie it to Arke(hence the proposed naming convention), something. Maybe explore the attempts to "rehabilitate" royalty who was raised from birth to lie and steal in a society that values theft and deceit, in a family that thought shooting children with guns was an acceptable education method, of a race whsoe warfare destroyed their planet. She need not become like Two Face or The Joker, who just keeps coming back over and over again, but DC has used Mayfly twice in its reboots, they could update "Badra" once. (And by update I mean let her remain recognizable as the same character, similar to Dr. Psycho, Dr. Poison, Clea, as opposed to Cheetah, Dr. Cyber, Silver Swan, who are In Name Only)
That's why he wants you to have the money. Not so you can buy 14 Cadillacs but so you can help build up the wastesMy sincere condolences to his family, may he rest in peace.
There are a lot of creatures in Brazilian Folklore that would make great villains for Iara, it's a shame they seem to not have delved into it. I haven't read it, but I believe they used Cuca, though, didn't they? Thanks to Sítio do Picapau Amarelo she is the first monster that comes to mind when we think of "folkloric villain" here, but there are other good options. oh hey how are you doing?
Would anyone mind if I changed the profile pic for Artemis? I think it's odd for half of her to be covered by a character from another franchise on it. At least there should be different pictures for it and her Comic Book page.
I think you should ask that in this thread:

So, what are the overall thoughts on Diana using a shield?
Like, I'm not really sure how to feel about it considering her Bracelets serve the same purpose.
I can get the pragmatism of it, especially after her 2017 movie, but I also feel like it takes away from what she can already do a little.
I'm kinda the same way on her using a sword, though that one is less an issue for me.
What do the rest of you think? Shield, or no shield?
One Strip! One Strip!how come there has never been a wonder woman animated series?
I think it was rights issues at first.
I recall she was under one of those damned embargoes too.
But I think it's primarily that no one was interested in a full on series.
One Strip! One Strip!I can take or leave it.
Maybe if you made it a big Spartan style shield instead of the small Captain America one. Maybe give her Athena's Gorgon shield.
Secret SignatureWonder Woman Historia: The Amazons is appearing on quite a number of "Best comics" lists.
I had forgotten the third issue was supposed to come out! How is it? I liked the first two.
The Protomen enhanced my life. It's pretty good. We see the Amazons defeating Heracles, them being sent to Themyskira and the birth of Diana.
This may sound weird, but for any fans of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, are there any elements of it you think the Wonder Woman comics could learn from?
Like in what regard?
If you mean in fighting mythological enemies like Medusa then IDK what to tell you.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Like how they handle mythological characters in general. Their approach to how characters of myth interact with the modern world.
Well that's a tricky one since the Law vs Chaos that is the series and thus influences the role of the mythological creatures is rooted in Japanese politics.
In SMT, normally the mythological creatures are actively hostile to humans or at best condescendingly helpful and are also thoughts made into reality by the humans.
In SMT V there's more of a cast and thus we see humans and these mythological creatures interact, like the Angels are unusually more benevolent and protective of humans, and there are demons willing to grant students who got lost shelter. But there are certainly malicious demons who pray on the hearts of mortals, like Lahmu. There's a lot more but I'm not super familiar with Wonder Woman's lore to give advice. Sorry.
But from what I understand, the Greek Gods and other mythological creatures in Wonder Woman's corner ARE real in the sense they aren't just thoughts of humans given form.
Do feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I generally prefer this approach.

I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. That is true. That said, Greg Rucka's run did deal with the idea of certain gods like Ares and Athena reinventing themselves in a way to fit the modern era.
Here's a funny bit of trivia: the Blue Snowman actually predates every ice-themed DC villain.
Blue Snowman (Wonder Woman) - 1946
Minister Blizzard (Wonder Woman) - 1948
Captain Cold (The Flash) - 1957
Mr. Freeze (Batman) - 1959
Killer Frost (Firestorm) - 1978
Icicle (Green Lantern)- 1947
The Cryonic Man (The Outsiders)-1984
Coldsnap (The Outsiders)-1984
Snowman (Batman) -1981)
Polar Lord (Justice League)- 2002
In an old continuity but I don't think much was done with it aside from a throwaway line.
