I have never seen anyone use that term except Tarol Hunt. It might be confined to the geekier branches of fantasy...
Hail Martin Septim! It originates from the Wheel Of Time fandom. Robert Jordan would often answer fan questions with "Read and Find Out", abbreviated as RAFO. Eventually, RAFO became some sort of bizarre character who had power over the books and plot. Nifty card, too

I'd take it as a compliment, it means you asked a smart question. I didn't get one, although he did dodge my question and answer a closely related question instead, amusingly mine was related to hemalurgy also (I asked what metal Wax's earring is made of, he wouldn't specify but did say it has a slight hemalurgic charge).

I just went to a signing by Brandon Sanderson and was given a R.A.F.O. card for one of my questions. These are given out in response to very good questions that he's planning to answer in future works, and thus, cannot answer now. Thus, Read And Find Out.
Has anyone else gotten one of these? Is it just Sanderson, or do other authors do this? Should I consider this a kind of compliment, or just a response?
If you're curious, the question regarded the Mistborn trilogy. Did the Lord Ruler use hemalurgy on himself? R.A.F.O.
