This thread's for all of the X-Men comics and spin-offs (X-Force, X-Factor, New Mutants etc.), whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate X-Men, X-Men 2099, X-Men "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- X-Men 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Wolverine, Deadpool, Ms. Marvel and Cable.
- Characters and comics that originated in X-Men and its related books but are no longer connected to the franchise are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their X-Men related stories here.
Discussions that are only about X-Men adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).
I have to say that the X Men franchise has been going on for decades. Maybe not as many as the Superman franchise has, but it still has quite a number to it.
One thing I am certain of is that the franchise seems to be subverting Status Quo Is God in recent years. Magneto and Professor Xavier seem to be fading into the background, with Cyclops and Wolverine taking their places. A lot of villains associated to the X-Men have been killed off and have actually stayed dead so far.
All this gives me the general impression that the franchise is trying to reinvent itself. Do you think that's what's going on here?

You gotta wonder about how good an idea it is to base such a vital institution on abilities that cannot be replicated and whose wielders are not immortal.
Even if they manage to avoid getting offed prematurely or something, the Five will eventually die. And when any of them die, there goes the resurrection process.
This ironically means the Five are the only ones for whom Death is NOT Cheap.

Disgusted, but not surprisedElixir can self-revive, Proteus is an Energy Being who quite possibly can't die at all, Hope is the most powerful Phoenix after full-potential Jean so who known what she could pull off, and there are a lot of chronokinetics.
The weak link is definitely Fabio there.
I'd assume they have some contingency plans for if ONE of them dies. But yeah, if all of them die its game over.
Or maybe they already accounted for that have backups in place. Like make some eggs and clone bodies in advance, put them in status and then have Xavier add their memories.
Of course that is still an otherworld sized hole in that hypothetical plan.

Their contingency if one or two die is to have Sync and Mimic take their place temporarily.
Which I guess means Sync and Mimic also don't have Death Is Cheap.

Disgusted, but not surprisedAs I recall, there was a data page that did touch on options for replacing one of the Five if needed. I don't remember the details, though.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Mimic counts as a Mutant?
I recall there was something of a debate on it before on this thread, but I thought the jury is still out on whether he is or not.
One Strip! One Strip!Having read the latest Marauders, there is definitely a thing going on where certain mutants have injuries/deformities they shouldnt have, given the resurrection process.
And it seems to just be a "familiar look" thing, where they dont want to alter certain characters appearances because they are iconic, which I get.
I wish it would at least get a hand wave in universe, though.
Y'know that election for the X-Men being held on Krakoa? Well, it appears Marvel is letting fans vote on the final team member, starting tomorrow
.
Polaris
Forge
Boom-Boom
Tempo
Cannonball
Sunspot
Strong Guy
Marrow
Armor

On Twitter, Tempo and Marrow are very much the favourites, with Armour also a strong contender. We'll see how that translates to the actual voting, though. Odds are it'll be a more popular character, which is a shame, because it's honestly a perfect opportunity to give Tempo a chance to shine. She's a character with relatively little characterization, especially in the past 20 years, so there's lots of room for Hickman to define her, and she also has a really unique power.
A lot of the choices are already being used in other books, and being written better than Hickman would write them. I really don't want him using Polaris when Leah Williams is doing such great work with her.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.I was gonna saw Banshee or Cannonball myself, but
has piqued my interest.
Who is Tempo, what does he (or she) do, and why do you think Hickman would do a better job writing him/her?
One Strip! One Strip!Tempo is a black woman who was part of Mutant Liberation Front for a while, before they broke up. She can speed up or slow down time, a power that doesn't show up often but which is full of potential. Also, there's a very strong implication she's queer, in Mike Carey's Age of X story.
So you've got a character with a really cool and unique power, a history as a revolutionary, who's seldom been friendly with the X-Men, and who isn't really as developed as any of the other choices. She's far and away the best option.
Sam and Bobby have their own thing going on in space, they don't need to be there. Polaris is being written really well in X-Factor, let's keep her away from Hickman. Fun stuff is being done with Forge in X-Force, no need to move him to X-Men. Armour is with SWORD, she should stay there. Banshee's getting up in age, he doesn't belong on the main team, he's far more useful as an investigator. Boom-Boom is always fun but she's honestly too chaotic for the main team, she works best when she's with her friends. Strong Guy just kinda doesn't bring enough to the book.
So yeah, I feel like the best options are Marrow or Tempo. Marrow would fit a Wolverine role really well, someone who's violent and vicious and bucks authority. Tempo is calmer, though there's no real reason she couldn't still buck authority.
From a narrative standpoint, too, the ones who bring the most are Tempo, Marrow, and Armour, who is at least a demonstration that newer mutants can actually be full X-Men.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics. While I prefer Jean's classic costume, I like that she and Scott are wearing different ones in the most recent X-Men.
It reminds me of the Empyre tie-in where we see that Magneto still keeps the old colors of his suit when he feels like a change. While I get that iconic looks and instant recognition are hugely important to comics, out of universe, I like the idea that in-universe superheroes can just decide to wear whatever, when they feel like it (aside from those that have actual necessary equipment or whatever built into their costumes).
Its also still funny to me that one of the big heroes of the Shi'ar is a human from Earth.
You know, I'm not the biggest Wolverine fan out there, but I am actually enjoying his new solo series more than I expected to.
It toes a fine line between making him the ultimate badass and between wallowing in angst.
There's still plenty of both, but its done in a way that feels more balanced and enjoyable.
https://aiptcomics.com/2021/02/02/marvel-heroes-reborn-magneto-mutant-force-1/
oh so this is what happened to the mutants in the new heroes reborn universe. the squadron killed most of them.
Pretty much. Not a shock really. Marvel has shown time and time again that there really aren't many options for mutants.
If they wanted to prove that mutants and humans can never live together in peace, they've succeeded.
I'm sure they're proud of themselves.
One Strip! One Strip!

I mean, not really.
There are a few suspicious things going on (like with Siryn), but most of the mutants arent any more reckless than usual.
Which...is still pretty reckless, but then superheroes often are.
Also I read through the first House of X stuff and the figure given is something like 48 hours for a reserruction, but sometimes as low as one hour in extreme circumstances.
