This thread's for all of the X-Men comics and spin-offs (X-Force, X-Factor, New Mutants etc.), whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate X-Men, X-Men 2099, X-Men "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- X-Men 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Wolverine, Deadpool, Ms. Marvel and Cable.
- Characters and comics that originated in X-Men and its related books but are no longer connected to the franchise are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their X-Men related stories here.
Discussions that are only about X-Men adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).
I have to say that the X Men franchise has been going on for decades. Maybe not as many as the Superman franchise has, but it still has quite a number to it.
One thing I am certain of is that the franchise seems to be subverting Status Quo Is God in recent years. Magneto and Professor Xavier seem to be fading into the background, with Cyclops and Wolverine taking their places. A lot of villains associated to the X-Men have been killed off and have actually stayed dead so far.
All this gives me the general impression that the franchise is trying to reinvent itself. Do you think that's what's going on here?

One more question from me, I swear
. I just got X-Men Omnibus Vol. 1 from the library so that should hopefully answer all the questions that the Animated Series couldn't. Anyway, has this lineup ever existed?
Lineup: Cyclops, Kitty Pryde, Wolverine, Colossus, Storm, and Gambit?
Just asking because that's probably my ideal lineup for the X-Men.

Not that I can think of. Gambit joined the team after Kitty left to form Excalibur, and she was with them for a long time. When she finally rejoined, the team had gotten pretty big, and started going through more turmoil than usual, which caused Gambit to leave temporarily. It wasn't too long after that when Colossus died, and Kitty left soon after that.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.i came across some toad/frog facts on line that says the common toad smells like vanilla. So why does Toad smell bad? Bad Personal Hygiene or just fictional bias towards frogs and toads? (you know like the myth they give warts)
Also I note Movie/Evo styled Toad is more like a frog being leaner and able to jump greater distances oppose to toads who are fatter and can't jump as well.

It's not like his powers come from a Toad, it was just an insulting codename given to him.
As for that lineup Liver, the nearest I can think of is the late 90's, which didn't have Cyclops and included Nightcrawler, Marrow and possibly Rogue. It ended with The Twelve storyline, which brought in several other characters and gave Cyclops a prominent role. That era isn't brought up a lot, the main thing I remember is that I didn't like the art style.
Edit: Scratch that, if you swap Gambit with Nightcrawler you get that lineup from Uncanny #150 onwards, which lasted for a decent length of time.

Am I a good man or a bad man?
Well, you see, as Magneto himself would (much later,) point out, he was something of a big ol' hypocrite back in the early days. He claimed to fight for mutant rights, but he became so wrapped up in humanity's hatred for mutants, and was so affected by his own experience's in the Nazi Deathcamps, that he was utterly consumed by hate, and this reflected his actions. It wasn't until the early 80's, after he threatened to use a freaking nuke, that he started to realize this, and said to Cyclops (and a sailor-woman that Cylops was hanging out with at the time,) what I've just told you. Some time later, when Xavier had to go to space for a while to save his own life, Magneto even tried to be a hero, but as time went on, he realized that, as they say, old habits die hard. Try as he might, he couldn't truly put aside what he saw as injustice to mutants, and slowly turned back to his villainous ways. However, Depending on the Writer, he's not quite the same as he used to be starting out either. He wasn't so much of a hypocrite now, and he made sure to treat his own kind with respect. Nowadays, he's trying to be a hero once again, though who knows how long that will last.

To tell the truth, I used to feel the hypocrisy made him feel a little more realistic.
Thinks he's the best choice to lead the mutants into the future yet often couldn't keep his own followers in line.
Felt he held moral superiority over humans and yet committed some pretty heinous atrocities himself.
Uses what how humans treated him as an excuse yet often treats his mutant offspring like crap.
Magneto's still one of my favorite villains of all time when a good writer's behind the him.
Rule of fanworks reviews: The amount of constructive criticism a work receives is in inverse proportion to the amount it needs. You know I understand the fear normal people have of mutants. When their powers trigger most will not have any control over their powers (and thus can be compared to ticking time bombs) and well kids and even adults do pretty stupid or selfish things powers or no powers so people have right to be afraid.
However hating them and attacking them is on the same level of stupid as harassing a wild animal that is fully capable of tearing them a new one.
Also since 5 maybe even 3-years-old who hasn't wanted superpowers? It's a dream come true and people reject it? Has this point ever been brought up in any X-Men media?
So, in addition to Vol. 1 of the X-Men Omnibus, I'm also reading Joss Whedon's run on Astonishing X-Men and it's some good stuff. Gotta say, the funniest/awesomest part of the book is Wolverine watching Cyclops and Emma Frost having sex and then asking them what stage of greiving they're in. Way to call out Cyke, Logan!
I have to say, Whedon does make the relationship between Scott and Emma a highlight of the series. They're a great couple.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.
Agreed. Espescially when as Cyclops does so, Wolverine is still mouthing off and asks "Denial?"
Speaking of Wolverine, does anyone have some good discarded Wolverine Origin stories? Like, before he was revealed to be James Howlett. I'm not talking about him being a mutated wolverine or anything, I mean origins that are in the comics and are now contradicted by his current origin.
Amen. Whedon's run on Astonishing was the greatest thing ever, and it only gets better from there.
"You kidnapped us."
"You're still not over that?"
"It was four hours ago."
The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]I think Morrison did. At least that the experiment provoked a natural change. Traditionaly there were rules for Marvel retcons, but they are being broken down more and more now.
And the early Ultimate comics had his hair turn blue naturally, but he might have been killed off before the full transformation. I'm sure other adaptions have had it be a natural change or even that he was born like that, though I can think of three major ones that kept the failed mutant cure angle.

Am I a good man or a bad man?

Thanks. I was interested because the "First Night" epilouge you mentioned was written for Classic X-Men #1, which also reduced the new X-Mens battle on the island to a couple of pages. Not all of the additional stuff from Classic has been collected, which I think is a shame.
