Alien planet? Somehow something going on there is affecting or a danger to Earth in some way? Action could jump between the settings?

That wouldn't be out of the question at all. Though in the plot that's already forming in my head, it'd take place entirely on this world. |D

The Doctor drops in, already with a companion who seems fairly knowledgeable in alien things, but isn't quite at the Doctor's level. If I could compare, somewhere between Susan and Romana. Despite this, she doesn't know much about the Doctor himself. They meet our viewpoint character: a local who gives us insight into this alien world and winds up getting caught up with the Doctor and the story's mystery. Mystery solved, Doctor picks up a new companion, the adventure continues.

Either of the two companions could be visibly alien, just to shake things up.

Thread Hop.

Right now I'm imagining the movie as a two-hour long version of The Eleventh Hour. The Doctor regens and lands in Small Town USA/New York/Washington, stuff happens, ends with the companion joining the Doctor and them going off and having adventures in the sequel.

It's not over. Not yet.

[up] Oooh, that'd be nice.

If there was an American Doctor(and I'm not saying there should be), I think he'd be an Indiana Jones-type Adventurer Archaeologist.

Does the show get good Spanish dubs? Because I've been dying to show it to my relatives.
I think is on cable with subtitles on Latinamerica, but I'm not aware if it is dubbed too.

I think the Doctor's nationality, or even race or gender, is far less important than his basic personality. The following must be preserved for a character to work as the Doctor:

1. He's/She's got to be brilliant, and prefer non-violent solutions to problems over violent ones.

2. He/she needs to have a certain degree of eccentricity about him.

3. He/she should have a dark, anti-heroic side.

4. He/she must be an adventurer, traveling through space and time.

That is the core of who the Doctor is. Get that right, and the rest mostly doesn't matter.

I'm actually feeling a little more positive about the idea.

I still think that this is just one of those things floating around in Development Hell and it's just rumors that will never materialize, though.

Can we just say that past examples have already proven how well Doctor Who works in movie format?

I just want the Nu Nu Doctor to be awesome, with the traits Pulsar described. And I really, really hope they don't screw it up and make his name "Doctor Who." That would suck. And I want a Rory-esque companion.

He's like fire and ice and rage. He's ancient and forever. He burns at the centre of time. Rory punched him in the face.

[up] There's a problem with that. There can be only one Rory-esque companion, and that is Rory.

I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serial

This movie will probably be a clean break from the show. It would be great to ee Smith and co. graduate to the big screen, but it might put undue exposure of one Doctor over the others.

Why roll the dice when you can simply recast everyone and use a fancier TARDIS set?

And a bigger star as the lead actor.

Not that Matt Smith isn't big these days, but he really only became big by playing the Doctor.

As long as there's no fucking Fake British lead actor.

At least the TV movie had the decency not to do that.

Is Shia really a bad actor? Not really the "Doctor" type from what little I've seen, but I liked him in Indiana Jones.

Pulsar Since: Apr, 2015
#48: Nov 17th 2011 at 6:51:50 PM

I don't think he's a bad actor at all. I'm not sure where that idea comes from. The worst I can say about him is that he often picks movies of questionable quality.

But not someone I'd want as the Doctor. A companion, maybe. Be nice to have an American companion for a while.

I've avoided most of his movies, so I can't say this with full knowledge, but what I've seen of him just seems like he's playing the same part. He's constantly playing "awkward guy nerds are supposed to empathize with." He's constantly playing Shia La Beouf.

I don't want to see Shia La Beouf as the Doctor.

I don't want to see Shia La Beouf in the same TARDIS as the Doctor.

I don't want to see Shia La Beouf in the same universe as the Doctor.

I'm not going to try and pick a preferred Doctor, because none of them would fit my most important requirement: I haven't heard of them. Seriously, I don't want some big star in the role, I want someone who will be mainly known for this role. The less I've heard of a Doctor, the more I seem to like them.

But, of course, they're not going to pick an unknown for the lead role in a film like this, so my wish will likely go unfulfilled.
