It died last time, but I'm back with more experience and ready to see if it works this time.

Here's the text from the original signup post:

"People came to expect that supers would always be here. Superman, in all his glory, would protect them forever. The Green Lantern corps would be guarding the galaxy forever. Gotham would always have a Batman.

They were wrong.

200 Years have passed since Lex Luthor finally managed to kill off Superman. Confidence among supervillains grew, while superheroes grew more desperate. There were heavy casualties on both sides, and some heroes vanished entirely. Civilians lived in fear as petty criminals grew more confident and went bigger.

Finally, after the longest time, a league emerged. A new sect taking the names of old heroes. They were Legacies. ~~

Okay fellas! Here're the rules: 1) You're perfectly able to bend the nature of the original characters for your legacies—Gender, personality, extent of powers, how the powers are used, origins... etc.

2) Normal rules, no god-modding etc.

3) I'd prefer you to go with legacies, but if you want an original hero I'll approve it.

4) I'll start with the forming of the league, most likely.

5) DC Only. Also, I hate to say it, but no Superman. I have my reasons.

I'll add more if I think of 'em. But here's a character profile skeleton and one of my own!

  • Name: Tom Martin
  • Age: 23
  • Gender: Male
  • Alias: Firestorm
  • Alignment: Lawful Good
  • Personality: Tom is usually cheerful and easygoing. However, he does not take his job lightly. Being new at the game, he can at times be overwhelmed and panic.
  • Appearance: Tall, with brown hair and blue eyes. When he transforms into Firestorm, he looks much like the Ronnie Raymond version of the hero. The only difference is that he retains his face structure, and his costume is a bit darker.
  • Powers: Can transform inorganic objects into other things, including completely changing its atomic structure (i.e can turn a robot into a plastic flamingo), flight, limited superstrength, and “quark vision” (can see atomic bonds)
  • Skills/Gadgets: N/A
  • Backstory: Tom was a chemical engineering student when an accident bonded him with the Firestorm matrix. After researching the history of the hero, he decided to fight crime to live up to the legacy. He set up shop in Pittsburgh, and has so far only faced bank robbers and muggers.

...This should probably be in the sign-ups board, but, um... Hmmm.

I'm going to try and make an entry, but how long that takes depends on how long it takes me to decide between Captain Marvel, Star Sapphire, Animal Man, Mr. Nobody (even if I know I couldn't pull that one off >.<) or... Um, well, I have a lot of ideas, at least. >.<

...Actually... Would it be okay if I put a tentative claim to Shining Knight? I'll have to refresh my memory as to what the DC version of Excalibur actually does, and try not to make her a blatant expy of Saber, but... Hmmm.

Copied from the thread in the

Oh my, so many ideas. Lobo's illegitimate son, the new Dr. Fate, a Red Lantern who's taken years of anger management classes and learned to bottle up and release his rage as necessary... Any preferences?

Alternatively, a heroic, anarchist version of Dr. Chaos.

...and that's terrible.

Name: Al Smith

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Alias: Bastion

Alignment: Good, carries a bit of true, neutral, and Chaotic, depending on situation.

Personality: Attentive, Patient, and Quiet are things that... don't define Al. Al is loud, impatient, and a tad aloof. He believes in getting to the point, and can come off as quite blunt. At the same time however, he does take pride in his duties as a superhero and will go out of his way to do the right thing. He loves children, and is an absolute geek when it comes to some of the legendary superheroes. He also tries to come off as cold and cool upon first meeting a person. It doesn't usually hold up long, if at all.

Appearance: Tall, good looking, muscular. Is pale white, and has short, unkempt black hair.

Powers:Has the power to turn his skin into metal, along with mild super strength. (Enough to move his metal body as fluidly as if it were regular flesh and bone.

Backstory: Al doesn't quite remember his life save for the past two years. What he does remember however, is his first name, and his adoration for superheroes. Everything else is a blur. Al can only assume he is 18, seeing as how two years ago he woke up in Metropolis City Dump, with half of an ID that listed his birthday. It took Al awhile, but he soon discovered he had powers right before being hit over the head by a would be mugger. Since then, he has vowed two things. 1). Become the best Hero the world has ever seen. 2). Find a place to live. As you can see, being hit over the head still caused some minor head trauma.

I am not sure on the backstory, but everything else is in line. BTW, you have probably already noticed this, but this is an OC.

...Wait, so we actually post the sign-ups here? I thought the whole point of this thread was to rectify your mistake, as well as be the place to actually post sign-ups. >.< Ugh, but since everyone else seems to be posting them here instead of there...

  • Name: Penelope "Penny" Drake
  • Age: 14
  • Gender: Female
  • Alias: Shining Knight
  • Alignment: Neutral Good
  • Personality: A wide-eyed idealist and all around idiot hero. Possesses a strong sense of justice and can't bare to see people being oppressed for any reason. She's rather single-minded about it, though, and won't even think twice about the consequences of what she does, blindly rushing head-on into danger if she thinks it's for a good cause. She's generally cheerful, and loves chatting with anyone she comes across about completely inconsequential things such as the weather, how pretty the flowers look, what she had for lunch, etc., to the point that she can come off as somewhat annoying to others at times. However, a lot of this is simply a mask for how she truly is. Penny is actually possessed of something of an inferiority complex, and sometimes strives too hard to live up to the legacies of both the previous Shining Knight and her previous incarnation of Arthur Pendragon.
  • Appearance: Penny has shoulder length, somewhat messy red hair and brown eyes. She's of average height for her age, although a little underweight and with a somewhat androgynous build (she's still quite obviously female, though). For whatever reason, she generally forgoes wearing a costume and goes about her heroic duty wearing rather casual clothes, such as shirts and jeans.
  • Powers: Possesses Excalibur, greatest of all swords. Whilst the sword is close by her, she is imbued with its power and gains enhanced strength, speed, agility and resilience (nothing too spectacular, as these abilities only just cross the boundary between human and superhuman). She also becomes an almost unmatched swordswoman, although this only applies if she's actually using Excalibur (she seems to fumble a lot with any other sword). The sword itself constantly glows with a pale yellow light, and by willing it Penny can cause the blade to flash incredibly brightly for about a second, bright enough to temporarily blind anyone who looks at it (Penny is somehow immune to this, but not to similar abilities that could be used against her). Excalibur is said to be able to cut through anything, but this is actually tied to the wielder's willpower; Penny is capable of cutting through almost anything as long as she believes in herself and her ability to do so. The blade will also never deal a lethal blow as long as Penny wishes to not cause one; as long as she does the blade merely phases through others and simply causes a feeling of pain. If she does use Excalibur with killing intent (which would be a very rare occurence indeed), its ability to cut through anything Penny wishes makes it far deadlier than any other sword. As a weapon with inherently high magical ability, Excalibur grants Penny a small degree of defense against arcane attacks, and if she properly times her strikes she can send them flying back at their casters. All of the previously stated abilities can only be used as long as Penny continues to uphold the tenents of chivalry, justice and goodness; should she ever falter the sword and all powers granted by it will cease to work for her until she redeems herself. Excalibur is bound to Penny, and she can summon and dismiss it at any time; whilst it is possible to steal it from her, multiple magical precautions must be taken beforehand, otherwise she will simply summon the sword back to herself.
  • Skills/Gadgets: Excalibur, as mentioned above.
  • Backstory: Penny always wanted to be a hero. For as long as she can remember she's always been in awe of the legends of such heroes as Batman, the Flash, Green Lantern, Superman, and all the rest. Her personal favourite, however, was always a lesser known hero, Shining Knight, a figure straight out of Arthurian legend, weilding a sword of justice to take down those who would stand in the way of righteousness. She was always somewhat depressed at the fact that she'd never be able to be a great hero like they were, as she lacked both superpowers and Batman's ability to make do without superpowers. However, after being plagued by strange dreams of a previous life during the run up to her 13th birthday, she was visited by a strange old man who proclaimed her to be none other than the reincarnation of Arthur Pendragon, the Once and Future King, reborn into the present to usher in an era of peace and prosperity. She initially brushed this off as the ravings of a madman, but after one final dream on the eve of her birthday, in which she was granted the legendary Excalibur by the Lady of the Lake, she woke up to find that very sword sitting by her bed. Ever since then, she's pledged to use the powers of Excalibur to fight for justice and defeat evil wherever it may hide.

Name: Garrison Raye

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Alias: The Green Glow

Alignment: Neutral Good

Personality: An artsy fartsy little jerk with a chip on his shoulder for having to be a hero. He is more concerned with his studies and being the next great actor, but sadly the world needs him. Garrison isn't really a bad person, he does good, but he's allowed to complain, isn't he?

Appearance: black shoulder length dreadlocks, glasses, a baseball helmet and a Guy Gardner style Green Lantern uniform. About 5'9", black, soft features and average non-athletic build.

Powers: Standard green lantern corp skills.

Skills/Gadgets: His Green Lantern Ring. He's also able to read body and people very well and is an excellent liar

Backstory: A college sudnet interested in the arts and theatre, the simple Garrison was not prepared to be faced with an ancient and dying man named Alan Scott who was sustaining the last of his extended lifespan to find the next wielder of the Green Lantern power. Guy, Hal, and Jon's rings had long since been returned to the Oan's but Alan still had his own and, shockingly enough, Kyle's because of it's eccentric design. It had chosen Garrison who happened to be in Gotham to visit family one day.

The ring, while searching for a new owner, was still hardwired to Kyle and Hal's DNA and frankly, Garrison was not interested in being a hero. The process was painful but the powerful magics of Alan's ring allowed Garrison to wield the corp ring with occasional backfire and rejection. Alan entrusted Garrison with his own ring and passed on, leaving Garrison with the duty of finding the right person to succeed the Green Lantern, Alan Scott.

He currently lives in Pennsylvania attending Ursinus University.

Illigetimate Son of Lobo:

  • Name: Hector Vermouth

  • Age: 38

  • Gender: Male

  • Alias: The Main Man, Lobo Jr.

  • Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

  • Personality: He enjoys partying, cheap booze, has no manners, and joined the League because he found out that helping these guys gets him more money in merchandising deals than bounty hunting like his old man. Plus, Earth Chicks are all over him when he saves them. He's the paragon of morality. This isn't to say he has no better nature- he's actually a pretty level guy, considering his heritage. Just don't expect him to do much housework as he prefers a messy home, don't expect him to quit complaining about not getting to keep the highly dangerous animals or monsters from missions, and don't expect Christmas Cards. Where Lobo has a soft spot for dolphins, he has a soft spot for small dogs.

  • Appearance: With white skin, red eyes, and a leather jacket, there's no mistaking it: Hector is Lobo's son. This isn't anything of note, however, as the history section explains. Hector actually shaves and cuts his hair, since he thinks long hair makes him look like a hippie.

  • Gadgets/Skills:
    • Rocket Bike, made from stolen alien technology.
    • Pretty good with animals- he actually majored in Animal Behavior in college.
    • Multilingual: understands English, French, Russian, Spanish, and Chinese. Can't speak Chinese because he can't get the intonations right. Do not bring this up.

  • Powers:
    • Super-Strength
    • Nigh-Invulnerability
    • Superhuman stamina
    • Self Sustenance (doesn't need to eat, sleep, or drink, can survive in space with no ill effects.)
    • Enhanced Learning Ability (he absorbs information faster than humans, allowing him to pick up languages over weeks of study instead of years.)

  • Backstory: An immortal guy like Lobo Really Gets Around. During a visit to Earth, he impregnated a woman, and lo and behold a little Lobo was born. The doctors wondered why (Hector says the Czarnian cells beat the crap out of the human ones), but he grew up with a pretty normal childhood, given his alcoholic mother and absentee dad. An enhanced learning capability allowed him to absorb information from class while reading great works of literature. He managed to get a college education in animal behavior, with a minor in the arts, even though he barely studied and fully intended to become a bounty hunter.

It wasn't until his first bounty- a small time superhero who had pissed off a mobster- that he realized something. Take down the small fry, and people don't care. Take down a big fish like the mobster, and you get merchandising deals. From that day forward, he began acting heroic, even though his boorish manner shone through. He makes it perfectly clear to parents and children he's a terrible role model, but even he knows that bad publicity is still free advertising.

...and that's terrible.

  • Name: Kain Ferris
  • Age: 22
  • Gender: Male
  • Alias: Steel
  • Alignment: Chaotic Good
  • Personality: Kain is normally a pretty easy-going, even somewhat lazy, guy. He is typically seem as one of those Brilliant, but Lazy types among his engineering school peers, as he holds top honors but doesn’t seem to put forth any effort. In his “Steel” form, he takes on a more heroic persona and even deepens his voice to reflect his heroism. All in all, he has a lot of fun being a super hero and being able to make his city a better place to live.
  • Appearance: He’s 6’1” tall with a slightly muscular build. His fingers are calloused from handling many pieces of metal throughout his life and he usually keeps them bandaged. He has close cropped dirty blonde hair and blue eyes and slightly tanned skin. His street clothes normally consist of a plain t-shirt and khaki cargo pants (he needs the pockets to hold his stuff).
  • Powers: (From The Other Wiki’s article) Genius engineer, Powered Armor, Super-Strength, Flight, Durability, Endurance, Variety of communication and sensor arrays, Wields seemingly indestructible mallet. He hasn’t quite mastered how to use the suit, so the most he can do at this point is clumsily fly around and swing his mallet at things. Nothing that requires too much dexterity.
  • Skills/Gadgets: Not too much besides the aforementioned Powered Armor, Genius, and Mallet. In his downtime, he tries to make improvements to the Steel Armor.
  • Backstory: Kain has been taking things apart and reassembling them for as long as he can remember, it was only natural that he’d eventually get a scholarship to the engineering school of his choice. He is performing very well there, and even holds an intership at Lexcorp’s (which still existed, but under different management) Robotics and Cybernetics Division. This is how and when he first came into contact with the suit. It was part of a kind of Trophy Case for Luther’s “conquests.” Kain found himself completely fascinated with the suit and often asked anyone whose attention he could get a hold of about the suit; how it worked, who owned it, how Luther got a hold of it, etc until one day he received a large envelope with no return address addressed to "Kain Ferrous" at his university's address. The typed message of the letter was very simple:
    Hope this helps.
    I.
Attached to the letter were schematics, diagrams, material lists, and such for the very same suit he was so obsessed with. Kain realized to his barely containbable pleasure that whomever this “I” was, they had just given him everything he needed to make his own suit! He immediately set to it, using his parents’ own basement and some materials “borrowed” from Lexcorp itself. Before long, he had his own Steel suit, which he uses to fight crime, just like the original Man of Steel.
