Not that I don't like protozoans, but unlike mammoths or sabretooths, our earliest ancestors don't belong in this world and we don't have genetic material.

Yes I know this is a joke.

Why not? Do I need to point out again they are native to modern North America?

Not to mention they are so specialized that they couldn't kill people.

Cows kill people in defence. Since nothing eats sabretooths they are not going to make a preemtive move, and since they are too specialized to eat people they wouldn't try to hunt humans (they will possibly try to hunt cattle but nothing some vulcanized rubber bullets and a good barrier can't stop)

Rubber bullets cant stop a cow. They sure as an hell arent going to stop a fucking sabertooth tiger.

Rubber bullets have been successfully used to stop freaking polar bears.

Farming implements have been used succesfully for murder, doesnt mean we are going to equip militaries with sickles.

[up][up]Macroevolution has nothing to do with this thread (though microevolution does). Because no new species has evolved since any of the de-extinction candidates were wiped out.

[up]The difference between using farming equipment as weapons and using rubber bullets for non-lethal methods of dealing with predators is that the latter has been used for that purpose specifically, and repeatedly.

Pffff, rubber bullets stopping bears is cherry picking at its finest.

Come on, there are cases where a .30-06 to the skull still didn't stop Grizzly bears from charging hunters.

If a bear is already charging you, rubber bullets are just as effective as trying to piss on the bear.

This is for deterring predators before they charge. It isn't supposed to kill them: it's supposed to cause pain and drive them away.

Or...piss them off and make them attack you?

But then again there is a long standing tradition of wrestling dangerous things to prove manliness. -wrestles gabrael- FOR THE MOTHERLAND

You are being attacked by an alligator! What do you do?

  • 3) Give it a noogie!

Anywho,

I wonder if by bringing back say, the Barbary Lion, maybe we could find a way to bring it back immune or more resilient to certain diseases or disorders.

Then hopefully we could incorporate that trait or develop a vaccine to help our existing African lions.

[up][up] 2)

But seriously, non-lethal bullets work (there is a reason they are being used)

[up] Vaccinating them prior to re-introduction is probably a better idea than engineering in resistance.

Locking it up.
