Yeah? And? So? What? I like Zardoz, but I'm not gonna make a thread about it.
I like them, too. Well, the second and third one anyways, especially the third. The first one was not a Transformers movie, it was a military/high school movie with a few giant robots in the mix. I don't care that the scripts aren't amazing: they get the job done. I don't care if the plots aren't life-altering: they're good enough for me. I'm in them to see the visual effects, the action, and what I think are very creative plots, again especially the third.
Ok.
I haven't got the chance to watch the second one, though. Did watch the first and the third one at a theatre. At the third, all the non-military human characters were unlikeable like HELL (seriously, Sam taking out Starscream? You serious?), but the rest was awesome.
Continuously reading, studying, and (hopefully) growing. The first one is totally just as much Transformers as the third,it's the second that isn't. It's the second that really messes up traditional character traits. They were all mostly akin to the original mythos in the original movie
And the first movie is NOT a high school/military! Sure it starts out a bit high school-ish but that's just the set up for the hero,if anything it's simply a mediocre retelling of The Hero's Journey
The second one on the other hand is military/college incarnate, and Optimus is a complete asshole. I tell ya' I cheered when he Megatron impaled him,..he had it coming.
The third one I liked alright, the plot was definitely the most serviceable, but the actress for Carly isn't better than Megan Fox at acting, and well Fox is Ms. Fanservice at its finest so that brings it down for sure. The explosions are brilliant
I'd go as far as to say the first Transformers along with The Rock are the only watchable Bay films.
The one thing most everyone can agree on is that they have some intensely memorable action set-pieces. I remember both applause and riotous laughter when Optimus ripped Bonecrushers head off. I remember Bumblebee for all intents and purposes de-boning Ravage. I remember Ironhide taking a grenade spike to the shoulder, riping it out and using it against the 'Con who threw it.
A bunch of random laser shots being fired from trenches in the desert simply isn't going to cut it anymore.
Well there's your problem right there. Anyone who claims there's objectively good taste is a twit and should be ignored.

I dont quite remember any of that, LOL.
I already have some problems with the main character names and you expect me to remember certain actions.. um...no
(never whatched Trasnformers before the films, not sure if thats bad of I should be glad).
"That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death itself may die."I feel pretty much the same way about it as d Roy. Michael Bay is good when he's in his element, E.G. action films, and the Transformers movies are no exception. True, the scripts aren't the best, but they're not the worst either. The largest complaint I have about the film series is Bay's trademark shaky-cam. I think the already great action sequences would be elevated to stupendous levels if the audience were able to get a more stable, focused view of the 'bots.
Sorry, but I just can't get past the bad plots. Maybe if there were better scripts with no stupid jokes, no Loser Protagonist, and no military butt-kissing to steal scenes from what should have been the stars of the show, they could have been good movies. Yes, the action scenes were cool, and yes, action scenes can be used as the selling point of a movie, but that doesn't mean they should be.
Not to mention the blatant disrespect of Megatron.

You haven't seen the second one d roy? Ah, that explains it. Trust me, outside of a few good action pieces, and an awesome Linkin Park song, you're not missing much. Just watch clips of the fight scenes on youtube or something ([[Copyright Infringement Oh wait).
I didn't really like the fight scenes in the first movie, partly because of the shaky cam, and partly because they cut away from the main bulk of the Optimus Prime vs Megatron battle. Fortunately, the second movie made up for it, and not only do they show the entirety of Optimus fighting Megs, but against two other 'Cons as well. Definitely the best part of Rot F.
Quite honestly, you're views on Bayformers seems to mirror mine on the Star Wars prequels. Terrible scripts, but awesome action sequences that I can't completely hate them.
Dude, those films are full of recycled footage. When you say you like the special effects, you are literally watching the same explosion you watched in some other movie of his.

I'm not so much bemused that you made this thread as that you made two different threads for it.

You're talking literal snippets of footage, the only one that is meant to be a "showcase" image (actually plot relevant and not just an establishing shot) is the recycling of crash footage from The Island in Dark of the Moon, but even that is largely fixed by integrating new robot footage into the crash.
It happens all the time, any movie that has an overhead shot of a city is likely recycled from somewhere else. Apparently getting Chicago to shut down for weeks on end isn't enough, Bay is a "cheap" director.
I transformers series is the only Bay movies I've watched so that doesn't really matter to me. Besides, why does that even matter anyways, it only becomes problem when you take signficant montages from other people's works.

It seems that almost everyone who claims to have some taste in movies denounce this film series as pile of CGI with horrifically written scripts.
Well, to be honest, can't argue against that. The scripts, urgh... -laughs-
However, I like it nonetheless. I personally think that sheer awesome action scenes and amazing CGI more than makes up for its faults. Guess I'm alone in this. :/
(Yes, I posted this in IJAM convo too, deal with it.)
