Great list, Saeglopur. But I absolutely hated And So I Watch You From Afar's album. Oh well.

Thanks. The list took far too long to put together, I have too much time on my hands tongue

I reckon Gangs isn't quite up to the ridiculously high standards they set themselves with the self-titled debut, but it's still unlike anything else out there and great fun. What didn't you like about it?

Best: Within Temptation - The Unforgiving.

Actually the only album I've bought this year, but also the only one worth buying by any label band. God I sound pretentious arthouse as fuck with that, but most of my other music listening has been guys like Chris TT and Dave Hughes & The Renegade Folk Punk Band, both of whom sadly lack major labels.

It's so hard for me judge albums because I haven't really heard one this year that I completely like all the way through, but if I had to pick five BEST I'd say

  • Lady Gaga "Born This Way"
  • Bad Meets Evil "Hell: The Sequel"
  • The Lonely Island "Turtleneck & Chain"
  • Kanye West & Jay-Z "Watch The Throne"
  • Various Artists "Punk Goes Pop Vol. 4"

And the worst, but in the sense that I'm comparing this to their previous work:

  • Avril Lavigne "Goodbye Lullaby"
  • Britney Spears "Femme Fatale"

Well, I haven't listened to it in a while, but while I liked the sound and style at first, it really just wore off me very quickly and by the end of the album I was sick of it. Not enough variety, maybe?

@Nil Admirari: Agreed on Oneohtrix Point Never, Grouper however only just scraped into my top 50 as I thought it was disappointing compared to Dragging A Dead Deer Up A Hill. But based on its high placement in your list I will give it another listen. Still need to listen to Glass Swords.

Also, off-topic, but nice username, I loved Returnal cool

An album that I expected to show up in a bunch of worst lists is Nelly's 5.0. This was supposed to be his comeback album and ended up getting only slightly better reviews than Brass Knuckles. Also, the sales weren't any better (though this one charted higher).

[up] That album came out towards the end of 2010, though. Other than just being mediocre, it was overshadowed by releases from Kanye and Nicki Minaj in the next week.

I liked the Tony Bennett album, though admittedly I wouldn't say it was among the best of the year.

N. Jesus I don't think I've even heard more'n like 30 something albums this year (that I can remember), so I could never do that.

BEST:

  • Fucked Up -David Comes To Life
  • eastern youth - Kokoro no soko ni Touka Tomose
  • Maritime - Human Hearts
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers- I'm With You
^ (I didn't love this one, but it was better than I'd expected after being bored to death by that first "Raindance Maggie" single)

WORST:

  • dredg - Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy
  • Dananananaykroyd - There Is A Way

I was tremendously disappointed in these albums. The negative response to the dredg album seems almost universal.

Listened to a few new albums and got a better ranking hammered out:

  1. Matana Roberts - Coin Coin Chapter One: Gens de couleur libres
  2. The Antlers - Burst Apart
  3. Destroyer - Kaputt
  4. A Winged Victory for the Sullen - A Winged Victory for the Sullen
  5. James Ferraro - Far Side Virtual
  6. Panda Bear - Tomboy
  7. The Roots - undun
  8. Clams Casino - Instrumentals
  9. La Dispute - Wildlife
  10. Fucked Up - David Comes to Life

Other things that I enjoyed but didn't include because they were mixtapes: Frank Ocean - Nostalgia, Ultra, The Weeknd - House of Balloons and Echoes of Silence, Elzhi - Elmatic, Lil B - Angels Exodus and Main Attrakionz - Blackberry Ku$h

[up] Fantastic list - I've heard a lot of good things about that James Ferraro album, could you give me any indication what it's like? Any other bands/artists you'd compare him to?
