A goof on the cover of Marvels (and goofy comics covers in general).

Is it just me, or does this cover image look like, "Hey, check out that guy's package!"?

Any other unintentionally funny covers you'd like to add? (And I'm pretty sure most of us know about Superdickery already.)

That's not a "goof".

A "goof" is when someone screws something up so badly that it's hilarious (for example, drawing Wonder Woman with one eye or something).

This is basically finding stuff funny just because the observer thinks it's funny.

What Zeal said. This is not a goof. This is someone being immature. This is great art, from one of the most talented and celebrated artists in the industry.

Theres sex and death and human grime in monochrome for one thin dime and at least the trains all run on time but they dont go anywhere.

Well that was a bit harsh...

Let's make a TCG!

... I'm having a hard time not seeing the 'pointing at Giant Man's crotch'. Honestly, it's so centralized that I'm not entirely sure it was unintentional >.>

Ross can be weird sometimes, 'most celebrated artist' or not. Talented? Hell yes. Normal? Uhm... not always <.<

The angle seems perfectly normal to me (if inappropriately placed), because one has to consider that the context is Giant-Man appearing out of nowhere and you need the picture like right now.

Not just the angle (although that's a bit funky too)- it's the arm from off-camera pointing directly at Giant-Man's... er... area. Also, if you wanted to get a looked-like-a-spontaneous-snap-it-NAO-shot, I'm pretty sure there are other ways to do it- I mean, it's a painting of an imaginary photograph situation, not an actual action shot :/

You do realise that his not pointing at Hank's junk right? Follow where that hand is pointing? it's no where near it.

-*shrug* It's sloppy composition. I know it's not pointing directly at it, but the angle is still poor enough to make things... questionable.

[up] Well how would you arrange it then? As obvious as the symbolism is I'm starting to wonder if you understand why the cover for that book is of that character at that angle.

Angle the arm up about ten degrees. Problem solved and general composition remains unchanged. The cover does give a good 'you are there' sort of feel to how big Giant Man is in the shot, but I think it could have been done without centering the entire cover on his crotch.

Of course, the whole setup kind of begs the question as to why, exactly, Giant Man has chosen to navigate the streets in that fashion. Anybody who has had to navigate a room with children's toys scattered all over the floor can attest to how difficult a chore he has just set up for himself, and at least with kid's toys, you aren't going to be killing someone if you misjudge a step and stomp on something. Not to mention the fact that kid's toys don't move on their own while you're trying not to step on them. Not directly related to the cover's funniness or otherwise, but a bit of Fridge Logic that hit while I was thinking about it.

Highly Visible Ninja EDIT- Okay, nevermind- didn't notice that he was standing on the buildings rather than the street.

... which just raises more questions!

It's already about 15 degrees above pointing at the crotch, another 10 and it would look to high to be attatched to a person.

As for why he's like that, I'm sure he did tge same thing in some of the classic books. Blame Lee/Kirby/Thomas/whoever. My best guess would be he's looking for someone or something, that way he doesn't have to move around.

... totally irrelevant, C0mraid, but I just now read your sig, and now I've got Simon & Garfunkel stuck in my head. Thanks a lot >.O

I kind of question the inclusion of the arm in the shot at all. I sort of get that it's there to add to the immediate, man-on-the-street feel, that the photo's not perfect, but it just... eh. You could do the same thing with a bit more of a person, showing them recoiling to stare upwards or whatever (one shoulder and part of their head, maybe) without the whole disembodied arm thing. But that may just boil down to personal preference; having some minor experience in attempting composition, I can appreciate the difficulty, if nothing else.
