So for lack of better judgement, I decided to go see the sequel. My only excuse for seeing it was a new IMAX 3D theater just opened in my town and I wanted to check the place out. The movie was basically "Let's get the emperor penguins out of this huge ditch for over half of the movie!" accompanied by lots of Big Lipped Alligator moments. Probably the most WTF part of the film was When the baby penguin started singing opera. Whaaaat? Why didn't you know he could sing in the first place? Oh, because you were too busy trying to teach him how to dance!
/*facepalm*
Well at least I was entertained, and that's all that really matters.

What a coincidence, I'm seeing this tomorrow at an IMAX theatre that just opened (today, in fact).
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Like many others say, the first started out a cute character movie then devolved into a preachy Green Aesop with the cast almost disappearing.
Dunno if the second will be any better but I'm tempted to watch it just to see the Looney Tunes short "Daffy Duck's Rhapsody" that accompanies it.
Actually, it's a Sylvester and Tweety short that's shown before the film (which is cute, by the way). Daffy Duck's Rhapsody will probably be saved for Journey 2.
Anyway, this one wasn't as good as the first.

I didn't take the Green Aesop seriously and mostly laughed at. I also liked the scene with the whales and the boat. The I got this creepy realization that the whole movie was penguin centered morality. Everything not a penguin was monsterized except humanity because dancing made us change. I can see how that could disturb some people.
and seriously
Ripping another movie would have hurt my opinion of it too, if it had ripped off anything I had ever heard of.
