I only recently came to the site, this is like my 3rd visit. So far, I haven't made it through even one trope. I get a couple words into the first paragraph and I'm hit with 4 links which, to understand the article, I have to follow and read whether I'm interested or not. The same thing happens in that one, and the next, and the next, then all of a sudden I'm 50 tabs deep and haven't learned a thing.

So my idea is basically, when you hover the mouse pointer over a link, it displays a brief description for the trope to which you are being linked. Just a general explanation or an example maybe, so that you can understand what, say, the Moral Event Horizon is (I still don't) in the context of what you're reading. This way you can maintain your rhythm on an article and check out the links at your leisure if they interested you.

This has been suggested, and is on the list of "things that might be developed". The current thing you are looking for is in the Laconic Name Space. However, due to the fact that many of the Laconic entries were written by people intending to make a joke, or simply misunderstanding the trope, this is a long way off.

Ideally, you should be able to pick up the gist of the trope from the name and/or the text used to Pot Hole it. If you see something like "Bob fought Bloodmaim the Annihilator", then you know what the potholed trope is about without having to actually read the article. An ongoing process here is fixing names that aren't obvious what they mean to ones that are more indicative. It's not perfect, but we're working on it.

Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.

I would also like to mention that some tropes are very broad and focus on an intention, rather than a specific action, such as Kick the Dog (a distant relative to Moral Event Horizon), which is defined by it's narrative purpose rather than simply kicking a dog.
