Asayu shrugged, and said, "wish my world had Ki. A lot better than the usual sort of magic. But... sorry, I'm not really into these sorts of talks. Have fun." That said, she went to head back inside. As she did, she noticed some hot springs. She'd be paying those a visit later.

Kokabiel, meanwhile, considered this. Perhaps justification existed within those lost memories, then. Some forgotten sin committed by mortal men upon him or his kin. And worse, if it was forgotten, Virgil would never be able to find peace or closure. He'd be doomed to this hate forever. Very much like another being Kokabiel knew. He said, "that... sounds unpleasant," Kokabiel finally said. "Do you know anything of the lost days? Or have they eluded your searches as thoroughly as well as your memory?"

Virgil clutched the case he was holding even tighter.

"I don't know where to start looking... I woke up a few weeks ago with the last 6 months missing, and those 20 years I've had missing from my memory for a long, long time before that... the contents of this case are supposed to be clues to what happened to me, but most of it doesn't spark any memories."

"Hmmmm... given the fact that you mentioned the grip being necessary... it seems like to me it's somehow tapping into or powering a patterned energy directed forcefield matrix present in your universe allowing for the direct manipulation of material and physical effects through mental intercommunication by deep concentration." Ivin said thoughtfully.

"Oh brother. Do you even know what any of that means?" P'jwakh said.

"Of course." Ivin said.

"Alright, then how does that multi-tool work?" P'jwakh said.

"Um, I only majored in technobabble, not actual scientific explanations." Ivin said.

P'jwakh gave out a sigh at the expected response, and said to Yuki, "Pay no mind to that goofball. But more seriously, that's an interesting idea - I have done things beyond my perceived limits before, but not beyond the limits of my biology. We Hxaons also undergo rigorous training in order to realize our full potential and not be held back by our own thoughts. I respect the martial arts greatly, both as physical and mental training."

Yuki blinked at the wall of technical terminology. "Um... If you want, I can explain the process, but... it's a little dull."

She paused for a moment at the mention of martial arts comment. "I wonder if they have a place we could spar," she said. "Er, that is, if you don't mind, I mean."

"I thought you weren't supposed to be training?" Amaya asked, a knowing smile forming on her lips.

"Shush! I'm having fun!"

Jean’s brow furrowed. “Ah. So not familiar, then. No matter.” After a moment of thought, he then withdrew a small biro pen form his coat pocket and began to sketch a simple design on one of the tables’ napkins. He talked while he drew. “We are none of those things. Firstly, the organization is secular with secular aims. While we’re far more powerful than any one NGO, we do partake in much of the same work through the UN. I suspect you’re familiar enough with all that already. Freerice.com was actually my idea, you may be amused to know. And as for the last one, I’m not at liberty to speak on the age or indeed any of the personal characteristics of the heads of our order.”

It was a few seconds before Rachel recognized the symbol taking shape. It was that of a globe cradled in an open palm. “Just how much do you think you know about what the world is truly like? Can you know for certain, objectively, or is it always just a matter of perception? Appearance is everything. Perception often plays more of a role in Human events than the actual facts. If you doubt this, I’d only point you in the direction of Rupert Murdoch and his lackeys at Fox News and what they’ve had a hand in doing to American politics.” A wry grin pulled at the side of his mouth. He finished his little design and set his pen down, looking back up at Rachel.

“The truth of it is, there is a secret war going on all around us. It’s not fought with guns or bombs- well, not usually. And not the kind dropped from airplanes.” He looked back down to the little emblem he drew, then said with an air of amusement, “Yes, I know. It’s a little Bond-villain-esque, isn’t it?”

Wesley shrugged, shaking his head. “Not really. That’s a bit of an odd question, don’t you think? W-” A look of comprehension dawned on his face. “Oh. Oh, you’re wondering if anyone else expressed an interest in her. Yeah, no. We’ve mostly been traveling alone for the past few months and taking jobs. Sal’s a quick learner.”

At this, she tilted her head ninety degrees and pressed the top of it affectionately against Wesley’s arm, widening his grin.

"I do remember seeing that they have some 'simulator rooms' here, on the map near the entrance. It may be difficult to balance our relative strengths..." P'jwakh said to Yuki, referencing the six-foot tall reptile versus supernatural ki energy power match-up. "But if you want to try ... I would be receptive to the suggestion."

"You two will be no match for my Sand-Fu!" Ivin said, attempting to strike a pose, before slipping and falling backwards onto the sand. "I'm OK!"

"Just, try not to hurt yourself, OK?" P'jwakh said, shaking her head in disapproval.

"We could just gang up on Mr. Sand Fu," Yuki said jokingly. "I even promise not to teleport spam. Well, not technically teleportation, but most people can't appreciate the subtlety."

"Anyways, it's just a thought, I might stay out here and work on shundo in sand."

Kokabiel considered. "I don't imagine you'd be willing to show me the contents of that case... and even if you were, I doubt I'd be much help. Still, I wish you luck." He couldn't think of anything else he wished to say at the moment, so he found a perch on one of the nearby umbrellas instead, and resumed cleaning underneath his wings.

Rachel mused over Jean's words. After a minute of silent consideration, she said, "I don't know if joining you is the right thing. I'm not an idealist. But not really a cynic either." She sighed, looking for the words. "you people have the right ideas. I'm not sure if you're angels, but the world's not a nice place. And besides, it's not like my life can get any more complicated. If you want my undying loyalty, I'm sorry, I can't promise you that. But if you want my help, I'll do my best. On three very simple conditions."

She raised a hand to stop Jean before he could reply and said, "I know, I know, I'm in no position to 'make demands'. I'm just asking you, as a decent human being — which I hope to God you are — to make me three very simple promises. First, that I won't have to kill, or even hurt anybody, except maybe in self-defense. Second, I don't get involved in anything really nasty — I don't care if it's for a good cause, find someone else. Third, I can walk at any time, no consequences. I promise I won't tell anybody about what I saw or learned unless you ask me to do something so utterly evil I can't sleep until I do... but I'm trusting that won't happen."

Rachel actually felt a bit dirty. Something told her she was getting involved with people that she'd rather not know about. But she'd done a lot of things to keep herself alive, and this was just another one.

[Rooms]

Asayu first returned to room 13, before realizing she didn't have any keys. Experimentally, she placed her hand on the door handle, and heard the sound of a lock unlocking. Convenient. She guessed it recognized her. She entered, removed her swimsuit, and then, modesty far from her mind, grabbed a piece of paper and wrote, "Hot Springs" on it, just in case. Folding it and holding it in her hand, while carrying an opaque plastic bag in her left, she walked to room five — Ryan's — and knocked, wondering if he was asleep or not.

"Well," began Xavier, "I was more wondering if anyone was actually working with you. But I guess not. Getting jobs, however, is a good sign. Especially if you learn quickly. What kind of jobs do you have? I hope they're not too godawful. When humans and chimeras integrated, I was lucky that I already had a job, or else I would've been a janitor for a few years, until I got a higher standing in society."

"Yeah," said Vincent to Qrlil, shrugging. "I'm just over two thousand years old. We're not immortal, just really long-lived. For example, Kat over there-" He pointed at Kat. "-is a little over five thousand years old, and we think he's got one or two hundred years left in him before he kicks the bucket. It's amazing, seeing how much society can change over a few hundred years."

The conversation Kat was listening to drifted away from Virgil's thoughts on humans, and Kat grew bored. Hearing about large organizations, he shifted over to near Jean and Rachel's table and continued filming. This could provide some good data on how humans in that universe interacted with each other, and how they formed bonds.

"Yes, I'm assuming it's just very fast movement, which would logically mean it can be blocked. But if we want to practice out here we should probably get it approved, first." P'jwakh said, flagging down the maid walking around the Beach.

"You can train out here if you both agree, but any lethal or highly-damaging attacks will be automatically nullified, and you must not disturb the other guests." the maid replied to P'jwakh's inquiry.

"So, do you want to, or not?" P'jwakh said to Yuki, as Ivin got back up and dusted off.

"Two thousand?" Qrlil said tonelessly.

It seems Grln is not the only one in the family who likes older men.

She paused, tried to think.

"Two thousand years ago, my species were smart animals. Literally animals. The oldest currently extant civilization, the cthwui, had just begun to make use of their faster-then-light drive. The humans of my Earth were still bashing each other with pieces of metal.

"I... I cannot even begin to imagine what your life must have been like. I know very well that a society can change drastically over a single century. I just..."

She trailed off, then smiled (at best she could) faintly.

"You look pretty good for your age, I must say."

She turned to one of the maids and ordered a glass of water. This would need time to sink in.

Jean smiled. “Oh, we’re certainly not angels Miss Hosseini. Nor are we devils. But, I can say for sure that we will be able to accommodate your three requests. In fact, I’d ask nothing more of you, personally. I can’t guarantee you much else- I’m actually really more of a figurehead than anything, but I can at least say for sure that you won’t be sacrificed to some unspeakable elder god under our employ. We protect our own.”

He extended a hand to Rachel across the table.

“It’s a long-held view of mine that our organization needs more people like you, and I’m sure you’ll be valuable acquisition. I know from experience that these are good people. Our organization attracts a certain kind of person that’s willing to work towards its ideals, much like the UN does. I can tell you’ll enjoy working alongside them.”

Wesley suddenly became a little nervous. “W- Well I’m a mercenary- by trade, not by choice, of course. So, yeah. That’s kind of what we’ve been doing. Ehehehe. People call guys like us ‘Adventurers’ but really, in this day and age that’s really more of a polite way of saying ‘mercenary’ sooo- yeah.” His hand moved to rub the back of his neck. Saliha gave no outward reaction to this.

Ryan was lying on his bed staring at the ceiling when he heard a knock on the door. Grinning, he got up, said, "One sec, I'm coming," and walked over to the door. He opened it up, attempting to look nonchalant. His eyebrows shot up for a fraction of a second upon seeing Asayu standing in his doorway completely naked, but aside from that, he didn't look even remotely fazed. He smiled and opened the door all the way. "Well, hello there," he said. "Care to come in?"

Rachel closed her eyes, breathed deep, and, hesitantly, took Jean's and shook it without a word. Doubt and worry still plagued her mind, and she feared she'd end this with nothing to show for it but another enemy to flee from. But at this point, what did she have to lose? At a certain point, she'd gathered so many enemies they eliminated each other on the way to her. What was one more? And, of course, if things didn't go wrong...

Vincent grinned at Qrlil. "Yeah, it's been long. Although it's surprising how few people actually get how long it is. Humans rarely think about the full implications of that, and the ones that do pretty much only ask if Jesus was real or not. I'm not sure on that, there never were a lot of chimeras in the Middle East.

"Only historians really ask what life was like in, oh, the fourteenth century. Xavier once had a friend who was writing a book ask him what he thought a king's daily routine would be like, because Xavier's an archaeologist. Xavier emailed him a detailed, practically hour-by-hour account of a few days in the life of some king of a small province in what's now France." He chuckled. "The guy felt kind of stupid that he hadn't realized Xavier was there.

"And I don't look that good for my age. Not among my species, at least. I'm too skinny. I would look better if I bulked up, but I don't like exercise."

"Well," said Xavier, "at least she's learning something. If all else fails, you'll at least have something to fall back on."

He frowned at Saliha. "Although, I gotta say that you don't seem the mercenary type to me. Well, not from when I last knew you. You already seem more forward and outgoing, so... Hey, maybe you always had it in you, and you just needed some help to get going."

He shrugged. "I certainly couldn't do that. I'm a teacher. The few times I have been thrust into violent situations, I try to get out as soon as possible. Not very fun."

Asayu strode confidently in. "Something tells me this isn't your first time," she said, tossing the bag on the nearby counter. "And I'm sure you know how to use those," she said, motioning to the very same bag. "I'm sure you'll find one to your liking. No offense, but having children isn't really something I plan on." Technically a lie — she was infertile, and more worried about catching something career-ending, but that might seem insulting. "Anyways, one thing I gotta make clear." She leaned against the wall, and warned, "I don't do long-term relationships. Or any relationships, really. It's a one-time thing, maybe more if I feel like it, and it doesn't mean a thing for either one of us. We clear?"

Ryan grinned. "Sounds perfect," he said. He grabbed a condom out of the bag, then stripped down and walked over to Asayu. "Well, what are we waiting for?"

In case Asayu would react, Ryan looks like this if he was cleaner, had time for the scars to stop looking so fresh, wasn't missing any toenails (but is actually missing both baby toes), and wasn't accidentally drawn with the same build as Conan the Barbarian.

I think I need to pull out my two guys, replace them with someone else, someone more sociable.

Al'Lak had had his time in the sun as he quickly checked out and went back to his own dimension.

Sober soon left the water, seeming to hear a voice in his head, Get back to your duties you lazy bastard. He soon returned to his room and packed his bags as he checked out quickly, returning to the same dimension that the reptoid has just left to.

A new being walked into the resort, a human this time. It was female human for once. Her hair was completely white, her eyes were red, and she wore a unique set of clothes. She wore a pair of black pants, black boots, and a black long coat with red linings, her chest covered by a belt that held her coat together. A gun and its holster lay at her side, with a back pack held her stuff.

Dante smiled, "Let's party!"

I hate describing female characters. I find it difficult for some reason...

"Well, in my opinion, you look fine," Qrlil said firmly. She groaned inwardedly - that was probably a little too strong - and quickly searched for another subject.

"I agree with you about humans," she said. "They are rather short-sighted, aren't they? I wonder if it is a, as they might put it, 'mammal thing'."

I'm out to dinner now, and I'm also going to take the time to work out exactly what all of Qrlil's body language means, as I've been a bit inconsistent with it. Be back in maybe an hour or so.

And Killer Clowns and Kyle Jacobs, I think it's about time for that Sexy Discretion Shot...

Asayu looked him over, startled by his condition. Quite a number of marks and scars. But to ask now would be rude, and she'd enjoyed the company of men and women in far worse shape then him. For free, even. Of course she'd ask. Later. First, with a devilish grin, she gave him a hearty shove on the nearest bed.

Given the obvious presence of extremely fertile -- and frequently hormonal -- imaginations among those following this thread, no further details are required.

Jean’s smile widened into a warm grin. “Excellent. Miss Hosseini, welcome to the Grey Men. I can already tell you’ll fit right in. I also know of a position that befits your unique blend of realism and gentleness. How does the director of Mosaic Two-Seven Alpha sound? Oh, of course- forgive me. That’s a civil R&D facility we set up in the Aleutian islands to develop new strains of weather-resistant crops, among other things. Or would you prefer a more central posting?”

Saliha looked about to say something, but didn’t. Wesley spoke up instead. “Er- yeah. That’s actually about right. What can I say? Its work, its work I’m good at and it pays. Not much else for it, really. You do what you can, right?” Wesley fell silent. This was, evidently, something that neither of them liked to talk about.

Saliha’s left hand crossed over to her right and absent-mindedly traced a scar across its breadth. She flinched. Wesley’s hand came to her shoulder and squeezed. They shared a glance, looking almost like a couple who had just made up after a night of fighting.

Rachel said, "ahm, er... small problems." She twiddled her thumbs. "First. The, uh, Eyes and Teeth. You know it. Tamiel's boss. My lots-of-greats grandfather, Qaisar Hosseini tricked it. Screwed it over in a deal. Great for him. But, uh, it cursed our family." She looked down at her hands, and continued, "uh... long story short, I stay in one place to long, that place has problems. I don't mean, like, mages blow it sky-high. Nothing that easy. I mean, like, Murphy's law becomes a law of physics. So, no long-term postings. Gotta stay on the move, otherwise Hell itself dogs me."

She sighed, and then explained, "and... well, like I said, I'm an actuary — I figure out risk and its financial implications, to help insurance companies set premiums, or other companies decide how much to spend protecting against certain risks. But I'm a capable accountant, as well. Managment? Not so much... I'm not a real giving-orders kind of woman."

"Very well, then, I'll remove my weapons." P'jwakh said, taking off a large particle cannon gun from her back and handing it to Ivin, who had gotten up and dusted off. "Hold these for me." She then took off four smaller guns from the back, a variety of pistol-like armaments from inside the armor at the hip, a few knifes from her chest armor, ankles, and behind her arms, some strings of balls that vaguely resembled darkly-colored jewelry, and a small rectangular device from her back. "If this training is too imbalanced, I may want those back."

"I got it, I got it." Ivin said, clearly struggling under the combined weight and awkwardness, until letting them down on the sand with a gasp.

P'jwakh then stood in a stance, feet apart, and her four arms facing forward, "Ready when you are."
